  7. Abstract:
  8. Electrical power is an inseparable part of human life. Therefore, design and analysis of electrical transmission towers have always been important for scientists. In common design methods due to the lightness of these structures only the wind load is considered and earthquake effects are neglected. On the other hand, regarding regulation No.2800 a lot of areas of Iran are located in earthquake zones. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate the performance of these structures against earthquakes. In this research, regarding conducted studies, we decided to use incremental dynamic analysis method (IDA) in order to evaluate seismic performance of the tower. In sake of thoroughness of the research, we chose one of typical towers in Tehran as a case study. By taking pictures of the tower in person, we determined measures of the tower by AutoCAD software and then designed 3D model in SAP2000 software. Regarding nonlinear model, we defined buckling plastic hinge in the middle of elements. Afterwards, different scales of normalized records in IDA were applied to the structure. The intensity measure defined in this investigation was peak ground acceleration (PGA). Analysis indicated that the value of this measure for the tower is 1.8 g according to the life safety performance level. Moreover, regarding regulation No.2800, PGA for structures which are located in intense earthquake zone is 0.525 g in hazard level II. By comparison of these two measures, one can easily conclude that earthquake effect can be neglected in these structures
