  7. Abstract:
  8. In this study, the attitude control of an under-actuated satellite has been investigated. The investigated satellite uses reaction wheels for attitude control. For having full controllability of a satellite attitude, at least three reaction wheels are required. However, due to the high failure rate of reaction wheels, in this study assumed the satellite has two perpendicular reaction wheels, which causes the satellite to be under-actuated. The path planning method is used for controlling the satellite, which is an offline method. In the beginning, tries to define the control input of the satellite in term of limited parameters with different methods. In this regard, the control input is defined as a linear combination of basis functions, piecewise constant and piecewise spline. In the next step, by defining a cost function according to the characteristics of the satellite mission, the control input parameters are optimized by using different optimization algorithms such as genetic algorithm and BFGS algorithm. The results of different methods have been compared with each other and the piecewise spline method has been selected as the best method for defining control input and the BFGS algorithm has been selected as the most appropriate algorithm for optimization. In the following, the disturbances applied to the satellite are considered, and by repeating the designed controlling method, attempted to control the satellite online. Finally, various missions are considered, including attitude control of the satellite with respect to the orbital reference frame and tracking
