  7. Abstract:
  8. Climate change and its Environmental issues become fundamental challenges in recent years, and countries have to try find various solutions about it, such as developing renewable energy technologies. Multiple studies have been conducted on the importance of innovation in technology development and technological changes in different countries. Many studies have addressed the concept of the innovation system and evaluated the role of various institutions and actors. The innovation system as one of the concepts branched from the innovation system focuses on the importance of interactions between actors, the role, and nature of knowledge in a particular industry or sector. Hence, investigating and analyzing the current position of countries in innovative renewable energy technology and components is vital within the framework of the innovation system. In this regard, this study examines the effectiveness of knowledge components of the innovation system in renewable energy on the industry's success. In this research, using data about 15,600 patents for 15 years in renewable energies are extracted and analyzed for eight selected countries and using the data panel model. Four extracted knowledge components are localization, Diversity, Originality, and HHI. Moreover, two dependent variables of production and export of renewable technologies have been used to study the multilateral effect of knowledge components in the research. Results show that knowledge variables in the development of innovation systems are influential in two aspects. First, according to the type of targeting of each country, which is more energy production or export technology, the effectiveness and importance of the components are different. Second, it should also be noted that the intensity of affecting components depends on the current state of the countries (leading or latecomer). Therefore, countries can determine their current position and identify their renewable energy goals, policies, and related investments
