  7. Abstract:
  8. Agriculture is one the most water consuming sections in the world and roughly 60% of water demand is dedicated for this purpose. A seawater greenhouse manages to combine fan and pad greenhouse with humidification-dehumidification desalination in order to achieve water production next to agriculture products using moister in air which was used for cooling. The most important aspect of a seawater greenhouse is the amount of produced water. Many research on the condenser type and materials have been conducted in order to achieve a better performance, suggesting the utilization of a low temperature water source for the condenser. In this research, using a thermodynamic correlations to model the seawater greenhouse and genetic algorithm, the relationship between different sections and the climate effect on the seawater greenhouse performance have been studied and instead of using a low temperature water source, waste heat has been used to increase the temperature of air entering water production unit. Based on the simulation results, increasing the temperature of the water producing air at the end of the greenhouse, is more effective than decreasing condenser water temperature due to using a close cycle for preheating the second evaporator water. Also based on optimization results, the maximum amount of fresh water produced by the seawater greenhouse is highly dependent on the air wet bulb temperature due to using evaporative cooling for the condenser. Using waste heat for seawater greenhouse in Iran, Ahvaz was studied and an average glass factory, for the 1 and 3 hectares of land, could increase the water production 10 and 2.5 times respectively compared to the predicted amount of optimization algorithm thus proving the effectiveness of utilization of waste heat in seawater greenhouse
