  7. Abstract:
  8. The quest for reducing power consumption, external components and chip area in integrated circuits is never ended. One of the solutions is to use circuit re-use techniques whereas most of the blocks have multi tasks in the architecture. Besides that, the bias current is shared between the various parts of the system. Consequently, the total power and chip area are reduced. This thesis introduces Blixator (Balun, LNA, Mixer and Oscillator) circuit as a new generation of circuit and current re-use topologies for low power applications. The receiver has been designed for BLE applications. It exhibits a NF of 10.5 dB, IIP3 of -15.5 dBm, IRR of 23 dB, input impedance matching of -15 dB in 80 MHz bandwidth, phase noise of -118 dBc/Hz. It consumes 340 µw from a 0.8 V power supply and the die area is 0.75 mm2. The challenges and trade-off between the different specifications are analytically investigated. The high FoM class-E oscillator is introduced, too. Oscillator is the most power hungry block in the receiver chain, therefore increasing its efficiency and FoM must be seriously considered. Satisfying ZVS (Zero Voltage Switching) and ZDS (Zero Derivative Switching) conditions and providing high-Q resonances in fundamental and second harmonics, increase the oscillator power efficiency and FoM. At 4 GHz, it exhibits a phase noise of -152.75 dBc/Hz at a 10 MHz offset frequency and the resulting FoM is about 197.9 dBc/Hz. The circuit draws 7 mA from a 0.7 V supply, and the die are is 0.23 mm2
