  7. Abstract:
  8. In this research, a coating was created on the steel surface using the network structure of zeolite imidazolate-8 (ZIF-8) and its effect on the corrosion behavior of steel was investigated. Then, the effect of two coupling agents, mercaptopropyltriethoxysilane (MPTES) and aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES) on the coating and its anti-corrosion properties was investigated. Then, in order to make a hydrophobic coating, the substrate was first coated with ZIF-8 and then a combination of silica nanoparticles plus hexamethyldisilazane (HMDS) and polymethylhydrogensiloxane (PMHS) was added to the initial solution and then coating was done. As a result of this process, the contact angle of water with imidazolate-8 zeolite coating increased from 81.44° to 121.02° and 131.40° respectively in ZIF-8+MPTES and ZIF-8+APTES. Further, in order to investigate the corrosion behavior of the coatings, the potentiodynamic polarization test has been used. Using this test, the corrosion current of steel decreased from 2.9 µA/cm2 to 6.4 × 10-2 µA/cm2 after coating with ZIF-8. Then, due to adding MPTES, its current increased to 0.1 µA/cm2. But after adding the HMDS/PMHS hydrophobic solution, the corrosion current of the coating decreased to 6 × 10-2 µA/cm2. In the case where APTES was used as a coupling agent, the corrosion current reached 1.2 × 10-10 µA/cm2. But after adding the hydrophobic solution, HMDS/PMHS, the corrosion current decreased to 1.5 × 10-2 µA/cm2, which was chosen as the optimal coating. As a result, the amine functional group in APTES has improved the bond between the functionalized silica and ZIF-8. In the continuation of the investigation of this coating, mercaptobenzothiazole (MBT) was applied to this coating as an inhibitor, and using the potentiodynamic polarization test, the corrosion current of the ZIF-8/MBT coating was reduced to 1.3 × 10-2 µA/cm2, and the inhibitory efficiency with ZIF-8 coating was measured as 80%
