  7. Abstract:
  8. Cylindrical shells play an important role in a wide range of engineering applications such as mechanics, aerospace, marine engineering, and nuclear applications due to their high load-carrying capacity, light structure, and economic advantages. Because these structures are often made of high lengths and thin sheets, they are very prone to vibration, especially under the conditions that they play a role in the rotating state, which can cause failure. For the reasons mentioned, the vibration analysis of rotating cylindrical shells will be essential in engineering designs. In the present study, after introducing general concepts regarding the analysis of structural vibrations, previous research conducted in this field has been investigated. Despite various methods and facilities available for experimental analysis of structural vibrations and extensive research on the theoretical analysis of vibrations in rotating cylindrical shells, researchers have not focused on the experimental analysis of vibrations in these structures, so This issue will be the subject of investigation in the present study. In this regard, the performance requirements of a device for achieving the objective of present study have been mentioned, and four designs and ideas with different functional methods have been proposed and investigated. Subsequently, for placing the natural frequencies of the structure with circumferential modes within a limited and minimum frequency range next to each other, dimensional analyzes have been performed, and the dimensions of the shell have been determined in a way that facilitates the process of vibration analysis. Finally, forced vibration simulations of the rotating cylindrical shell have been performed for different excitation methods using the finite element method. By analyzing the results of these simulations, design considerations for suitable excitation and data acquisition for the shell have been obtained. It was found that exciting the shell using electromagnetic methods would result in less noise in the low-frequency data acquisition for frequency response results of vibrations. Another result of this study is the development of a method to improve the accuracy of the mode shapes obtained by the device, which is based on predicting vibrations. With this method, it is possible to perform modal testing of rotating cylindrical shells with greater ease and at a lower cost. Finally, a detailed design with superior features for the device has been presented
