  7. Abstract:
  8. The number of operating vehicles has increased in recent years and as a result global pollutants have widely spread. Therefore, the regulations on the vehicle exhaust emissions have become much stricter. For an automobile to pass the emission tests successfully an accurate calibration of the ECU tables is needed, especially the tables which have direct impact on the amount of pollutant emissions. To achieve the optimum performance of the catalyst existing in the exhaust system of the engine, the fuel/air ratio must have nearly stoichiometric value. The present research studies the ECU strategies for implementing this objective by appropriate management and control of catalyst and oxygen sensor. These strategies are saved in ECU's functions. In fact, these functions include algorithms which are run iteratively during the engine's operation. Meanwhile, we calibrate the ECU tables which have great influence in the reduction of automotive exhaust emissions. The tables related to the lambda set-points of downstream and upstream of the catalyst in both cases of gasoline-based and CNG-based fuels. Also the amplitude and period of lambda modulation are included in these tables. The required experiments for calibration of these tables have been carried out on an EF7 engine, in the testing room of IPCO. At the end CAGE and MBCMODEL toolboxes of MATLAB software are reviewed as the most suitable for calibration of ECU tables
