  7. Abstract:
  8. The development of novel three dimensional degradable porous scaffolds is of great interest for tissue engineering.silk ibroin has recently received intensive attention as a material for use in fabrication of 3D porous scaffolds beacuse of its excellent biocompatibility, physical and mechanical properties, and easy processibility. However, silk alone has no osteoinductive property and considerebely lower mechanical properties than native bone. In order to overcome this limitation silk fibroin can be combined with other materials.the properties of scaffold can be significantly improved and new features can be endowed by the second ccomposition. The present study deals with fabrication of novel scaffolds composing of silk fibroin and Al2TiO5 using a salt leaching process.the prepared composite scaffolds was characterized using Xray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques. In addition physichochemical properties of the scaffolds including water uptake, swelling ratio, porosity and mechanical behaviors were studied.the cytotoxicity o scaffolds was examined by MTT assay using MG-63 cells.the preens of Al2TiO5 particles influenced in decrease in pore size and swelling behavior pf composite scaffolds. The resultant mechanical property of scaffolds was improved upon the introduction of Al2TiO5. Moreover cell cytotoxicity result for 7 days for scaffolds with 1.5%(w/w) tialite revealed no toxic behavior, however a mild toxicity to MG63 cells was observed for 4%tialite in composites. The cell fixation results from 7 days incubation indicated the attachments, spreading and subsequent proliferation of cells. Tialite particles also increase the rate of biodegradation of scaffolds
