    An Experimental Analysis of Performance and Emission of a Light-duty Vehicle in Fuel Change from Gasoline to Gasoline and Bioethanol Blend

    Abstract
    Increasing greenhouse gases in the atmosphere has many unpleasant consequences. Transportation sector has 23 percent allocation in emitting those gases. Alternative fuels can be considered as a solution in order to decreasing greenhouse gases and less dependency on the fossil fuels. It is noteworthy that between biofuels, bioethanol has the maximum share (based on International Energy Agency, IEA, bioethanol will hold 27 percent share in supplying energy in transportation sector). In this thesis, assessment of exhaust emissions and fuel consumption of a light- duty vehicle with the gasoline and E85 fuels is performed. Note that, engine calibration was not altered.     Abstract
    Fault monitoring in internal-combustion engines is crucial for keeping the vehicle performance within the acceptable standards of emission levels and drivers' demands. This paper analyses how a vehicle's performance and engine variables are affected by a leakage fault in the exhaust manifold. The threshold leakage that causes the vehicle to exceed the emission standards is determined for a class M1 vehicle tested on a chassis dynamometer over the New European Driving Cycle. It is shown that, when a leakage of 6 mm diameter on the exhaust manifold is introduced, the vehicle emissions exceed those specified in the European 2013 on-board diagnostics standard.     Abstract
    Emission factors (EFs) are fundamental, necessary data for air pollution research and scenario implementation. With the vision of generating national EFs of the Iranian transportation system, a portable emission measurement system (PEMS) was used to develop the basic EFs for a statistically significant sample of Iranian gasoline-fueled privately owned light duty vehicles (LDVs) operated in Tehran. A smaller sample size of the same fleet was examined by chassis dynamometer (CD) bag emission measurement tests to quantify the systematic differences between the PEMS and CD methods.
