    Abstract
    Using 3-D scanned data to analyze and extract pore network plays a vital role in investigation of porous media's characteristics. In this paper, a new simple method is developed to detect pores and throats for analyzing the connectivity and permeability of the network. This automated method utilizes some of the common and well-known image processing functions which are widely accessible by researchers and this has led to an easy algorithm implementation. In this method, after polishing and quality control of images, using city-block distance function and watershed segmentation algorithm, pores and throats are detected and 3-D network is produced.     Because of the recent frequent observations of major dust storms in southwestern cities in Iran such as Ahvaz, and the importance of the ionic composition of particulate matters regarding their health effects, source apportionment, etc., the present work was conducted aiming at characterizing the ionic composition of total suspended particles (TSP) and particles on the order of ∼10 μm or less (PM10) during dust storms in Ahvaz in April-September 2010.     Traffic assignment is a step of travel demand estimation. Given a trip origin-destination demand matrix, this step determines traffic flow in each link, according to assumptions based on the behavior of drivers. Conventional assignment algorithms, which are mostly based on the Wardrop first principle of user equilibrium, assume that all drivers choose the shortest path to the destination, based on the same travel time computed by travel time functions. However, in reality, driver perception of travel time varies for a specific route.     Tehran is surrounded by about ten active faults, which have had no major seismic activity during the last 200 years. Considering soil characteristics, the faults may cause fault ruptures, resonance, landslides in some areas. Tehran's MPE is determined to be about 0.4g which is a high seismic hazard. Specific codes have been generated in the last 50 years to ensure structures' stability when a quake occurs, but observations show that the codes are not fully implemented in the construction of public structures in Tehran. The weibull distribution is commonly used for wind energy analysis as it can represent the wind variations with an acceptable level of accuracy.     Land use regression (LUR) has not been applied thus far to ambient alkylbenzenes in highly polluted megacities. We advanced LUR models for benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, p-xylene, m-xylene, o-xylene (BTEX), and total BTEX using measurement based estimates of annual means at 179 sites in Tehran megacity, Iran. Overall, 520 predictors were evaluated, such as The Weather Research and Forecasting Model meteorology predictions, emission inventory, and several new others.
