Distribution Problem Considering Effective Usage of Trucks

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rasmi, Amir Babak (Author) ; Akbari, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Distribution of goods by vehicle routing with split delivery and effective usage of trucks are two important problems which are useful separately and could be applied for different kinds of depots with different trucks to satisfy customers’ demand. Combination of these two NP-hard problems can play a great role to decrease transportation cost. Complexity of this problem is so much that we cannot solve big-size problems by exact methods or branch and bound method in limited time. We introduce metaheuristics methods such as Tabu Search, Simulated Annealing and Ant Colony Optimization which have been presented before, concisely. We present various constraints in routing and distribution,...

Modeling and Solving the Simultaneous Berth and Quay Crane Scheduling in Container Terminals

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Nayebi Nodoushan, Amin (Author) ; Salmasi, Naser (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The most important sources in container terminals are berth and quay cranes. The main purpose in the container terminals is reducing delay times of vessels. This will be obtained with planning of terminal sources. This research addresses simultaneous berth and quay crane scheduling problem. A mixed integer linear mathematical model is proposed to minimize sum of completion time of vessels. Since the proposed research problem is NP-hard, two methahuristic algorithms based on Tabu Search (TS) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) are presented to heuristically solve the problem. After parameter tuning, PSO and TS algorithms are compared with experimental design methods. The results indicate...

In order to further investigate the role of structural similarity on the sorption efficiency, the performance of synthesized MOF in the extraction of other compounds such as triazine herbicides, organochlorine, and organophosphorous pesticides was also evaluated. As expected, the...

Polymeric Membrane Modification for Nitrogen-Compounds Removal from Aqueous Phase

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Amiri, Sajjad (Author) ; Musavi, Abbas (Supervisor) ; Bastani, Dariush (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this research, a novel nanofiltration membrane was used to separate nitrate from water as a nitrogen-containing compound. The membrane was fabricated by interfacial polymerization on the modified polysulfone substrate. To improve the efficiency of nitrate removal, several surface and bulk modifiers were used. As modified with LiCl and PVP polymer, the substrate matrix was modified to have the highest porosity to reduce the mass transfer resistance and the much surface area to form a polyamide layer on it. The polyamide layer was then synthesized by interfacial polymerization using a blend of MPD and PIP in different ratios (1: 1 optimum ratio) in reaction with TMC (optimum concentration...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Zokaei Nikoo, Maryam (Author) ; Salmasi, Naser (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This study addresses the simultaneous berth and quay crane (QC) scheduling problem in a container terminal. The berths are considered as a continuous area and the vessels arrive dynamically. QCs are allowed to move to other vessels before completing the process on an assigned vessel. The objective function is determined based on the practical applications of the problem. It deals with minimization of sum of the completion time of vessels. In this research, a mathematical model has been developed for the research problem. According to NP-hardness of the research problem, two meta heuristic algorithms based on Tabu Search are proposed. To solve the problem, these methods have two layers with...

    Abstract
In the first section, a novel and efficient multicomponent reaction for the synthesis of polysubstituted pyrrolidine derivatives is described under catalyst-free conditions using unltrasonic irradiation. This is the first report of Mumm-type rearrangement with dithiocarbamates followed by intramolecular cyclization which lead to the preparation of the key structure of pyrrolidine. In the second section, an efficient and unprecedented green protocol...

The Effect of Graphene Nano-Sheet on Antioxidant Stability in Polyethylene Pipes

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ghadami Karder, Hamid Reza (Author) ; Pircheraghi, Gholamreza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
PE pipes and specially PE100 are commonly used for the transportation of drinking water, transferred water was mostly disinfected by disinfectants such as chlorine, chlorine dioxide and chloramine. Long-term contact with water containing disinfectants led to morphological and mechanical changes and followed by oxidative degradation and failure. Antioxidants are stabilizers which are used in PE pipes to postpone oxidation and increase the durability of these pipes. Migration of antioxidants is possible during the terms of service, in this case antioxidants can be washed by water and left the pipe. As a result, the loss of antioxidants decreases the stability of pipes and leads to oxidative...

A Mathematical Model for Pricing and Container Repositioning in a Competitive Transportation Network

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Soleimani, Mahdi (Author) ; Najafi, Mehdi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The transportation is one of the important components in the economies of different countries. In the maritime transportation network, the demand is usually not balanced in different routes, and this imbalance results to accumulation of containers in a node. In order to sustain the problem, firms have to reposition empty equipment from a surplus location to a shortage location, which causes the problem of “Empty Repositioning Problem”. In this study, pricing strategies in one transportation market with two locations are considered; while there is ERP problem in issue. The problem is solved by Bertrand game method. The research is divided into two parts of the monopoly network and the duopoly...

, Article 16th International Conference on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering: Geotechnology in Harmony with the Global Environment, ICSMGE 2005, Osaka, 12 September 2005 through 16 September 2005 ; Volume 3 , 2005 , Pages 1497-1500 ; 9059660285 (ISBN); 9789059660281 (ISBN) Jafarzadeh, F ; Sharif University of Technology
    2005
    Abstract
Surface waves generated during vibration of machine foundations are sometimes troublemaking and cause some damages to the nearby sensitive structures or people. Considering the function of the machines located on the foundations the dynamic loading could be harmonic or impact type. The main part of the generated energy is transferred to the ground by Rayleigh surface waves. One of the most reliable and economic methods for reduction of the effects of these generated waves is using open trenches around the dynamic sources, so called active isolation in literature. In this paper applicability and affecting parameters of the open trenches around the impact dynamic source is studied using...

Using the fluid/structure interaction to mitigate the seismic response of structures equiped with cylindrical liquid tanks subjected to near field earthquakes

    , Article 11th East Asia-Pacific Conference on Structural Engineering and Construction, EASEC-11, Taipei, 19 November 2008 through 21 November 2008 ; 2008 Attari, N. K. A ; Rofooei, F. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    2008
    Abstract
Seismic response of a Single Degree of Freedom (SDOF) system containing a rigid circular cylindrical liquid tank under the earthquake excitations is considered in the presence of fluid/structure interaction. The governing differential equations of the system is derived considering the first three liquid sloshing modes (1, 1), (0, 1) and (2, 1) under different strong ground motions. The dynamic response of the system is investigated in the neighborhood of 1:1 and 1:2 internal resonances between the SDOF system and the liquid sloshing modes. These internal resonances take place by tuning the frequency of the first asymmetric sloshing mode of the liquid to the fundamental frequency of the SDOF...
