    Abstract
    Epidemiological studies have shown a positive association between particulate matters exposure and adverse health effects. However, the insufficient knowledge about the influences of components or characteristics of these particles on their health effects and toxicity leads into inefficient control practices for reducing particulates health effects.     Abstract
    Air-handling units (AHUs) are the installations responsible for the control of temperature and humidity inside a space using the heating, cooling, humidifier and drying air components. In this research, a multivariable nonlinear dynamic model of the AHU with one zone in the VAV (variable air volume) system for working in the summer is considered. The indoor temperature, relative humidity and carbon dioxide concentration are controlled via manipulation of the valve positions of the air flow rate, cold water flow rate and fresh air percent.     Surgical site infection (SSI) is one of the important infectious problems in hospitals. It is well known that appropriate ventilation strategy is most effective way to control bacteria-carrying airborne particles responsible for SSI. With considerable improvement in the computational capacity of computers, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) technique has been widely used to study the indoor airflow and contaminant dispersion over the enclosures.     Abstract
    During the recent decade, high induction diffusers have become more appealing in applications which require relatively high ventilation airflow rates, such as clean rooms. In this research, the effect of geometric parameters on the performance of a specific type of swirling air diffuser is investigated numerically. The results show that although the diffuser slots geometry, namely their angle and aspect ratio, is impressive on the diffuser performance, it is not as important as the swirling blade angle and the performance is almost constant in a wide range of slots specifications.     Background Oesophageal cancer is a common and often fatal cancer that has two main histological subtypes: oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma and oesophageal adenocarcinoma. Updated statistics on the incidence and mortality of oesophageal cancer, and on the disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) caused by the disease, can assist policy makers in allocating resources for prevention, treatment, and care of oesophageal cancer.     Abstract
    In the present work, we investigated the characteristics of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and metal(loid)s in indoor/outdoor PM10, PM2.5, and PM1 in a retirement home and a school dormitory in Tehran from May 2012 to May 2013. The results indicated that the annual levels of indoor and outdoor PM10 and PM2.5 were much higher than the guidelines issued by the World Health Organization (WHO). The most abundant detected metal(loid)s in PM were Si, Fe, Zn, Al, and Pb. We found higher percentages of metal(loid)s in smaller size fractions of PM.     Systemic inflammation biomarkers have been associated with risk of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality.
