Investigation of Pb/PbS a positive Schottky junction formed on conductive glass in contact with alkaline solution

    , Article Journal of Applied Physics ; Vol. 116, issue. 3 , July , 2014 ; ISSN: 00218979 Heidaripour, A ; Jafarian, M ; Gobal, F ; Mahjani, M. G ; Miandari, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
PbS on Pb thin film (Pb/PbS) was deposited on conductive glass (CG) substrate (CG/Pb/PbS) using electrochemical techniques to investigate the Schottky junction in solution. The CG/Pb/PbS electrode was investigated by different techniques based on thermionic emission theory. Electrochemical cell consisted of the CG/Pb/PbS as a working electrode in an alkaline solution showed character of the Schottky junction. Reduction and oxidation of H2O on the CG/Pb/PbS electrode were enhanced under illumination. Water photo splitting is the main process. Study of linear sweep voltammetry at around open circuit potential (OCP) allowed proposing a model based on the Schottky junction which is charged at...

    Abstract
Abstract The role of the work function and Fermi level is significant in the performance of the photo-electrochemical cells. We report that a correlation exists between work function and thickness of deposited thin film metals (e.g., Zn, Pb, Co, and Cu). The potential difference between a metal and a reference electrode is used as a rough approach for investigation of work function or the Fermi level. Metal thickness was calculated using faradic current during electrodeposition and further investigated by X-ray diffraction technique. The results show that when thickness decreases the potential also decreases (becomes positive) and the Fermi level of metals electrodeposited on the indium tin...

Synergistic effect of cobalt and copper on a nickel-based modified graphite electrode during methanol electro-oxidation in NaOH solution

    , Article Cuihua Xuebao/Chinese Journal of Catalysis ; Volume 36, Issue 11 , 2015 , Pages 1867-1874 ; 02539837 (ISSN) Rostami, T ; Jafarian, M ; Miandari, S ; Mahjani, M. G ; Gobal, F ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The electrocatalytic oxidation of methanol was studied over Ni, Co and Cu binary or ternary alloys on graphite electrodes in a NaOH solution (0.1 mol/L). The catalysts were prepared by cycling the graphite electrode in solutions containing Ni, Cu and Co ions at cathodic potentials. The synergistic effects and catalytic activity of the modified electrodes were investigated by cyclic voltammetry (CV), chronoamperometry (CA) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). It was found that, in the presence of methanol, the modified Ni-based ternary alloy electrode (G/NiCuCo) exhibited a significantly higher response for methanol oxidation compared to the other samples. The anodic peak...

The enhancing power of iodide on corrosion prevention of mild steel in the presence of a synthetic-soluble Schiff-base: Electrochemical and surface analyses

    , Article Electrochimica Acta ; Volume 55, Issue 20 , August , 2010 , Pages 6058-6063 ; 00134686 (ISSN) Lashgari, M ; Arshadi, M. R ; Miandari, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The inhibitory action of N,N′-1,3-propylen-bis(3- methoxysalicylidenimine) {PMSI} on mild steel corrosion in sulfuric acid medium was investigated through electrochemical methods and evaluations based on infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron micrographs. The studies revealed that the molecule is a good mixed-type inhibitor (mostly anodic), acts as a multi-dentate ligand and repels the corrosive agents by hydrophobic forces. Its adsorption on metal surface has a physicochemical nature and obeys the Langmuir isotherm. At a critical (optimum) concentration, an anomalous inhibitory behavior was observed and interpreted at microscopic level by means of desorption/adsorption process and...
