    Hydro-purification of crude terephthalic acid using palladium catalyst supported on multi-wall carbon nanotubes

    Abstract
    Palladium catalysts supported on functionalized multi-wall carbon nanotubes were synthesized for hydro-purification of crude terephthalic acid containing 2100ppm 4-carboxybenzaldehyde (4-CBA) as impurity. PdCl2 and Pd(OAc)2 were used as precursors. Palladium loadings were 0.05 to 0.6wt.% with catalysts reduced at 200 to 400°C. Catalysts prepared from both precursors with least 0.3wt.% palladium resulted in 99%+ removal of 4-CBA. The most desired selectivity was obtained for the catalyst with PdCl2 as precursor, reduction temperature of 300°C, and palladium loading of 0.3wt.%. This catalyst had slightly better performance than the commercial catalyst (0.5wt.% of palladium on activated carbon)...

    For the first time, a new platform based on electrochemical growth of Au nanoparticles on aligned multi-walled carbon nanotubes (A-MWCNT) was developed for sensitive lable-free DNA detection of the TP53 gene mutation, one of the most popular genes in cancer research. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) was used to monitor the sequence-specific DNA hybridization events related to TP53 gene.     Regarding the importance of rheological properties of water based drilling fluids, the effects of silica nanospheres, multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and two types of their hybrid, i.e. H1 (80 wt.% silica nanosphere/20 wt.% MWCNT) and H2 (50 wt.% silica nanosphere/50 wt.% MWCNT) on the viscosity and density of distilled water were investigated. According to the results, viscosity and density of the nanofluids increased with the concentration, while they were reduced by increasing the temperature.     The first usage of dihexadecyl hydrogen phosphate (DHP)-modified highly oriented multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNTs) forests in a sensor configuration was developed to investigate the electrochemical oxidation and determination of simvastatin (SV) in pharmaceutical dosage forms. Synthesis of well-aligned MWCNTs on a conductive Ta substrate by catalytic vapor deposition technique using a common chemical, ethylenediamine, and without being plasma-aided was reported.     Abstract
    Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) thin films were reinforced by glutaraldehyde and multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and then mechanical, water solubility, water swelling, water uptake, water vapor permeability, and antibacterial properties of the films were examined. Cross-linking by glutaraldehyde or incorporation of MWCNT caused a significant increase in tensile strength, decrease in elongation at break, and increase in Young's modulus of the PVA films, while MWCNTs were more effective rather than that of glutaraldehyde.     Graphene oxide nanoribbons (GONRs) were synthesized using an oxidative unzipping of multi-walled carbon nanotubes. The interactions of the GONRs with various concentrations of fetal bovine serum or human plasma serum indicated that the GONRs were functionalized substantially by the albumin originated from the two different protein sources. Then, concentration-dependent cytotoxicity of the protein-functionalized GONRs on human epithelial cells was studied.     Ruthenium oxide was coated on multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) to obtain nanocomposite electrode which has a good response to the pH. To synthesize this electrode, gold and cobalt were coated on a stainless steel 304 substrates, respectively, and then, vertically aligned carbon nanotubes were grown on the prepared substrates by chemical vapor deposition.     Closed form model for skin and proximity effect is necessary for GSI interconnects. In this paper, exact formulation for current distribution inside multiwall carbon nanotube (MWCNT) bundles is derived using multiconductor transmission line model. The current distribution is different from copper wires and it is geometry dependent because of kinetic inductance and quantum capacitance.     Properties of melt processed polyamide 66 (PA66)/multiwalled carbon nanotube composite were first characterized experimentally. The experimental results exhibited the formation of crystalline layer around the nanotubes and a considerable enhancement in mechanical properties by incorporation of multiwalled carbon nanotube up to 1 wt%. Mechanical properties were analyzed in terms of structural parameters using micromechanical models proposed in this study.     Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) with diameter of about 50 nm were synthesized using thermal chemical vapor deposition. We have investigated the influence of Mg doping to the MWCNTs on its hydrogen storage property. TEM micrographs showed that Mg was attached to the MWCNTs and discontinuous arrangement of the carbon walls was recognized in the MWCNTs. According to XPS and BET analyses, the surface functional groups and pore size of the Mg-MWCNTs are increased by interactions between the Mg and the MWCNT's outer walls.     Single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) and multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were synthesized in aqueous solutions containing FeCl2, FeCl3, FeSO4 and Fe2(SO4) 3. The effects of iron charge and the counter ions on the formation of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were investigated.     Abstract
    We report a study on hydrogen storage in Ca, Co, Fe, Ni, and Pd decorated multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) by using two techniques: volumetric and electrochemical. The results showed that hydrogen molecules are adsorbed on the defect sites and transported to the spaces between adjacent carbon via diffusion through both defect sites and opened tips into the layers. Hydrogen storage capacity can be improved in the decorated MWCNT by Co, Fe, Ni, and Ca metals in two approaches: (i) H2 adsorption via Kubas interaction and (ii) dissociation of H2 molecules on the metal particles.     This article demonstrates the properties of open-cell flexible polyurethane foams incorporating multi-walled carbon nanotubes. Three different types of highly functionalized nanotubes having carboxyl, hydroxyl and amide functional groups were synthesized.     Silica aerogel-multi wall carbon nanotube composites were synthesized successfully with a waterglass precursor and an ambient pressure drying method. Pure silica aerogels are so fragile that they cannot be used easily. Carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) were used as reinforcements to strengthen the mechanical properties of pure silica aerogels. Results show that inserting small amounts of MWCNT causes silica aerogels to monolith. By addition of MWCNT, monolith nanocomposites were produced with 800 m2/g surface area and a 140° contact angle.
