    , Article Polymer Bulletin ; Volume 79, Issue 9 , 2022 , Pages 7775-7794 ; 01700839 (ISSN) Kohestanian, M ; Bouhendi, H ; Keshavarzi, N ; Mahmoudi, M ; Pourjavadi, A ; Ghiass, M ; Sharif University of Technology
Springer Science and Business Media Deutschland GmbH  2022
    Abstract
Herein, poly (acrylic acid) (PAA) microgels were synthesized via alcohol type cross-linked by a free radical precipitation polymerization approach. At the first time, 1,6-hexanediol (1–6 diol), trimethylolpropane (TMP), and pentaerythritol (PEN) were selected as multifunctional cross- linking agent to synthesize cross-linked poly(acrylic acid) microgels. Alcohol type cross-linking agents can connect the PAA chains. The cross-linking reaction takes place due to reaction between hydroxyl groups of various cross-linkers and carboxyl groups of PAA chains. All of the hydroxyl groups do not participate in the reaction with acid groups of polymer chains through the polymerization stage; therefore,...

    Abstract
The simultaneous control of the molecular weight, separation, and purification of polyvinyl acetate was achieved using a cobalt-mediated radical polymerization (CMRP) in a packed column with silica gel particles (PC-CMRP). The controlled radical polymerization of VAc in the packed columns was evaluated from the linear time dependence of Ln[M]0/[M], linear increase of molecular weight with the increase in conversion, and narrow molecular weight distribution. PC-CMRP method was used to produce high-purity polymers with controlled molecular weight and narrow molecular weight distribution without requiring additional purification steps. The high ability of silica gel particles to adsorb free...

    Abstract
In the current study, thin-film nanocomposite membranes (TFN-Mx) based on a zwitterion-functionalized metal-organic framework (MOF) have been developed for the forward osmosis (FO) salt-water separation process. The active polyamide layer was formed through the interfacial polymerization of the m-phenylenediamine aqueous phase (with or without the presence of MIL-125-NH-CC-Cys) and the trimesoyl chloride organic phase. In comparison with the results from the surface of the unmodified membrane, a nanofiller-incorporated TFN-M0.10 membrane represents a smoother and more wettable surface that collaborates synergically to enhance the membrane antifouling ability. Among the examined membranes,...

    Abstract
1-Aminophosphonates are valuable compounds with wide range of applications in biological and industry. Various reaction conditions and catalysts have been reported for the synthesis of 1-aminophosphonates via three-component (dialkyl phosphite + aldehyde + amine) or two-component reaction (dialkyl phosphite + imine). Here a solvent-free synthesis of 1-aminophosphonates under very mild reaction conditions is reported. The three-component condensation reactions of dialkyl phosphite, carbonyl compound, and an amine gave 1- aminophosphonates in good to excellent yields under solvent- and catalyst-free conditions at ambient temperature. Hydrophosphorylation of imines in the presence of dialkyl...

    , Article Polymers for Advanced Technologies ; Volume 33, Issue 3 , 2022 , Pages 937-951 ; 10427147 (ISSN) Goodarzi, M ; Pircheraghi, G ; Khonakdar, H. A ; Altstadt, V ; Sharif University of Technology
John Wiley and Sons Ltd  2022
    Abstract
The current research focuses on suggesting a new potential application of polymeric materials for capacitor applications by focusing on polystyrene (PS)/ethylene-α-octene copolymer (EOC) blends. Polymeric materials have high dielectric strength (≈ 200 for PS), good processability, and flexibility. However, their low dielectric constants make them not suitable for capacitor applications. Therefore, suggesting a method for enhancing their dielectric constant accompanied by low tan δ proposes an excellent substitute for commonly used ceramic dielectrics. The current article investigates the control of the dielectric properties of PS/EOC blends by manipulating the graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs)...

    Abstract
Polymeric microspheres which can load biomolecules, cells and active agents play an important role in tissue engineering and drug delivery systems. The conventional double emulsion method has been frequently used to fabricate polymeric microspheres. However, this method has two major shortcomings: the complicated fabrication process which makes it difficult to predict the characteristics of the final microspheres while the size distribution of the microspheres has a wide range. In this study, we eliminate the shortcomings of the conventional double emulsion method and increase its performance without decreasing its high production rate. This can make the proposed modified method a promising...

    Abstract
Cancer has long been a leading cause of death. The primary tumor, however, is not the main cause of death in more than 90% of cases. It is the complex process of metastasis that makes cancer deadly. The invasion metastasis cascade is the multi-step biological process of cancer cell dissemination to distant organ sites and adaptation to the new microenvironment site. Unraveling the metastasis process can provide great insight into cancer death prevention or even treatment. Microfluidics is a promising platform, that provides a wide range of applications in metastasis-related investigations. Cell culture microfluidic technologies for in vitro modeling of cancer tissues with fluid flow and the...

    Abstract
One of the most arduous challenges in tissue engineering is neovascularization, without which there is a lack of nutrients delivered to a target tissue. Angiogenesis should be completed at an optimal density and within an appropriate period of time to prevent cell necrosis. Failure to meet this challenge brings about poor functionality for the tissue in comparison with the native tissue, extensively reducing cell viability. Prior studies devoted to angiogenesis have provided researchers with some biomaterial scaffolds and cell choices for angiogenesis. For example, while most current angiogenesis approaches require a variety of stimulatory factors ranging from biomechanical to biomolecular...
