An Interior Needle Electropolymerized Pyrrole-Based Coating for Headspace Solid-Phase Dynamic Extraction of Chlorophenols

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Kamal Abyaneh, Zahra (Author) ; Bagheri, Habib (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Nowadays, the inside needle capillary adsorption trap (INCAT) technique as a solventless sample preparation approach and alternative extraction method derived from SPME is gaining rising attentions. The INCAT and needle-trap devices are inexpensive, robust, reusable, and are applicable for sampling and analyzing suitable organic compounds from many different sample matrices. Compared to the fragile silica-based SPME fiber, the needle device is nearly impossible to break mechanically. In addition, the extraction medium possesses quite a large extraction phase volume and a powerful preconcentration capability. Similar to SPME, needle-like devices are particularly convenient for automation and...

Work Sharing as a Solution to Over Employment Unemployment Paradox

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Khashabi, Pooyan (Author) ; Keshavar Haddad, Gholamreza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Over employment is a common phenomenon in Iran. Over 61% of the labor force with more than 31 years of work experience have worked more than 42 hours a week in year 2000. This amount, increases for the years 2001, 2003 & 2004 as 65.9%, 68.5% & 72.1%. In this research, we examined the possibility of job opportunity reallocation by increasing the overtime premium between over employed and unemployed labor force in Iranian labor market. For this goal, we estimated the determinants of overtime incidence and hours according to single selection & double selection approach, Tunali (1986). Pooled data from urban Iranian labor force- year 2005- was collected and analyzed. Our results clearly show...

    Abstract
In this thesis, Particle Filter Methods are investigated in the context of moving targets tracking and the associated performance analysis. The application scope of this algorithm which is a particular case of Sequential Monte Carlo Method is far broader than tracking of moving targets. This algorithm can be used for mathematical calculations such as estimation of mathematical expectations, integrals, surface area of curves and many other mathematical calculations. In addition, it has applications in other branches of science like genetics. This algorithm is based on random sampling of a probability density function and resampling from the extracted samples. We change this algorithm in...

Economic Design of Variable Sample Size and Variable Sampling Interval Multi-Attribute Control Charts using Skewness Reduction Approach

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Jahani, Parvaneh (Author) ; Akhavan Niaki, Taghi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Since little attention has been given to multiattribute compared to multivariate control charts, this research is concerned with developing a new methodology to employ the multivariate exponentially weighted moving average (MEWMA) charts for multi-attribute processes. Moreover, since the variable sample size and sampling interval (VSSI) MEWMA charts detect small process mean-shifts faster than the traditional MEWMA, an economic design of VSSI MEWMA chart is proposed to obtain the optimum design parameters of the chart. The sample size, the sampling interval, and the warning/action limit coefficients are obtained using a genetic algorithm such that the expected total cost per hour is...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Golzari, Aliakbar (Author) ; Jamshidi, Saeid (Supervisor) ; Badakhshan, Amir (Supervisor)
    Abstract
By far, the most expensive part of the production optimization process is the evaluation of the objective function because this requires computationally expensive reservoir simulations to be performed. One way to reduce this high computational cost isby using surrogates or proxies for the reservoir simulator. There are different methods for constructing a surrogate that their aims are mimicking the reservoir behavior with high accuracy and low computational cost. In reservoir engineering surrogate modeling has been used for the problem of well placement optimization, while in the context of production optimization it has not yet been investigated in the literature. Moreover, most of surrogate...

    Abstract
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a non-invasive imaging modality which can represents the structure, metabolism and the function of inner tissues and organs. Unlike other imaging modalities MRI does not use ionizing radiation.Reducing the imaging time will result in cost reduction and patient comfort. Therefore since the invention of MRI, increasing the speed of imaging has drawn a lot of attention. This was mainly done by improving and upgrading the data collecting hardware of the imaging module. With the advances in technology, a point has been nearly reached, that due to the physical and physiological constraints, such as nerve stimulation, quickening the hardware is impractical....

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Salehe, Mohammad (Author) ; Ghodsi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In many network which relationships between nodes are defined based on the similarity of attributes (Such as the World Wide Web and social networks), extracting information about networks object’s attributes may be difficult or even in many cases impossible. In these cases, predicting unknown attributes based on other objects attributes according to network structure can be extremely useful.Even more, finding a representative sample set of objects and trying to obtain their attributes in order to predict other object’s attributes with this obtained data can be an interesting problem. Finding such a set of objects with minimum size while giving maximizing accuracy in predicting other object’s...

Destination Choice Modeling For Shopping Trips; Case Study For The City of Shiraz

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rahimi, Ehsan (Author) ; Samimi, Amir (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The fratar model that is one of the most common models of travel distribution has some weak points. Due to its strong tendency to existing distribution and disregarding the zonal characteristics, this model is unable to consider sudden changes in plan on the horizon. In order to identify the variables affecting the distribution of travel, using the behavioral approach is vital. For this purpose, Multinomial Logit model is used for distribution of shopping trips in the city of Shiraz. The city of Shiraz is divided into 156 zones. If all zones be considered as the choice set for each traveler, the results of model won't be efficient. To address this problem, sampling should be done based on...

To Estimate Private Rate of Return to Education in Different Grades by Using Quantile Regression Approach

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Noorashrafoddin, Meysam (Author) ; Keshavarz Haddad, GholamReza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Iranian Household Expenditures and Income Survay(IHEIS) in urban area shows that, average of real hourly wage against the schooling years is declining in the right tail of wage distribution between 1390 and 1384(2005 and 2011). A tentative justification for this observation is that the private rate of return to education at upper quantiles and higher years of schooling have been reduced in the mentioned period. Also, It is observed that the real wage inequality between upper and lower deciles in 1390 is less than 1384. This study intend to investigate the changes in wage inequality between different deciles by different levels of education and rates of return to education in the time...

Spectrum Sensing in Cognitive Radios Using Compressive Sensing and Random Sampling

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Dezfouli, Milad (Author) ; Marvasti, Farrokh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Cognitive radio (CR) can successfully deal with the growing demand and scarcity of the wireless spectrum. To exploit limited spectrum efficiently, CR technology allows unlicensed users to access licensed spectrum bands. Since licensed users have priorities to use the bands, the unlicensed users need to continuously monitor the licensed users activities to avoid interference and collisions. How to obtain reliable results of the licensed users activities is the main task for spectrum sensing. Based on the sensing results, the unlicensed users should adapt their transmit powers and access strategies to protect the licensed communications. The requirement naturally presents challenges to the...

Analysis of Nonlinear Methods in Compressed Sensing

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hosseini, Amir Hossein (Author) ; Amini, Arash (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Compressed sensing theory with the goal of sparse recovery using as few measurements as possible, has found much attention in the past decade. A fundamental assumption in compresses sensing is the linear nature of the measurements, that establishes a matrix equation between the unknowns and unknowns. However, in some applications, the physics of the problem may impose some type of nonlinear relationship between the unknowns and the measurements. Some solutions concerned with this type of problems, approximate the nonlinear relationship using a second order Taylor expansion. Using this approximation besides some modifications in the way the second order relationship is presented, a more simple...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sobhani, Ghasem (Author) ; Tabandeh, Mahmoud (Supervisor) ; Pezeshk, Amir Mansour (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
The target of reconnaissance receivers is to detect radio frequencies and pulses present in the environment and extracting their characteristics. To receive the signals in the range of 2 to 18 GHz, different receptors can be used. Each receptor has its specific aplications, advantages and disadvantages. In this project, we proposed a receptor scheme with the following features: 1-simple hardware, 2-ability to detect simultaneous signals, 3-hundred percent probability of intercept (POI), 4-high input bandwidth and 5-rapid threat detection. To have such a receptor, we should move data processing parts of receptor to digital domain as much as possible, and reduce the amount of analog...

Performing an Efficient Architecture for Compressive Sensing Algorithms in CT Application

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Abbasi, Hassan (Author) ; Shabany, Mahdi (Supervisor) ; Kavehvash, Zahra (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
Computerized tomography (CT) is a powerful tool among existing bioimaging techniques for capturing bio-images. In fact, CT imaging systems have attracted great attention in the last decades, because of their fast and high-quality reconstruction, low complexity and low-cost hardware solutions. In a CT scan procedure, linear sensors receive x-ray radiations, passed through the patient’s body and The quality of the reconstructed image is essentially influenced by the number of captured line projections. Nevertheless, gathering the adequate amount of data requires the patient to being exposed to X-ray radiations for a long time. However, the intensification of x-ray radiations could lead to...

Beamforming and DOA Estimation Using Compressive Sensing and Random Sampling

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Zamani, Hojatollah (Author) ; Marvasti, Farrokh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Direction Of Arrival (DOA) estimation or direction finding refers to determining the arrival angle of a planar wave impinging on the array of sensors or antennas. The DOA information can be used by the smart antenna system for beam-forming and reliable data transmission. The problem of DOA estimation in propagating plane waves played a fundamental role in many applications including acoustic, wireless communication systems, navigation, biomedical imaging, radar/sonar systems, seismic sensing, and wireless 911 emergency call locating. In the conventional DOA estimating systems, an array of elements (antennas or sensors) is used that are colocated in a uniform pattern called, Uniform Linear...

Secure Communication via Cooperation and Cooperative Jamming

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hatami, Mohammad (Author) ; Behroozi, Hamid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The broadcast nature of wireless communications makes the propagation medium vulnerable to security attacks such as eavesdropping and jamming from adversarial or unauthorized users. Applying physical layer secrecy approaches will enable the exchange of confidential messages over a wireless medium in the presence of unauthorized eavesdroppers, without using any secret keys. However, physical layer security approaches are typically feasible only when the source-eavesdropper channel is weaker than the source-destination channel. Cooperative jamming can be used to overcome this challenge and increase the secrecy rate. In this thesis, the security of two-phase relaying system with multiple...

Monte Carlo Simulation of Asymmetric Elastic Rod Model and Calculation of
    Probability of Loop Formation

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Naderi, Mohammad Saber (Author) ; Ejtehadi, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Sharply bent DNA plays an important role in many biological processes such as gene regulation, DNA replication and recombination. DNA cyclization experiments are well suited to study of sharply bent DNA, because they are sensitive to strongly bent conformations. Results of these experiments show that short length DNA molecules are more flexible than predicted by elastic rod model. Therefore, based on these experiments, the elastic rod model is not a suitable model for explaining elastic behavior of DNA at small lengths, although it can explain DNA elasticity at large length scales. Recently, it has been shown that a new model called asymmetric elastic rod model can explain high flexibility...

Magnetic Resonance Imaging Scan Time Reduction

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Alviri, Mohammad Reza (Author) ; Vosoughi, Naser (Supervisor) ; Vosoughi Vahdat, Bijan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a highly efficient method that can provide acceptable contrast between soft tissues. But the big disadvantage of this method is that its acquisition is slow. To find the reason of being time-consuming should the procedure be surveyed. In the magnetic resonance imaging, location information obtained using phase and frequency encoding gradients. So the output is matrix of image data in the frequency domain, which is called k space. For the formation of the k space phase, need to apply gradients several times and this is the main reason of dullness of the system. Therefore, in this project using software methods try to reduce the scan time as possible. Among...

Sparse Representation with Application to Image Inpainting

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Javaheri, Amir Hossein (Author) ; Marvasti, Farrokh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The emerging field of compressed sensing has found wide-spread applications in signal processing. Exploiting the sparsity of natural image signals on basis of a set of atoms called dictionary, one can find numerous examples for applications of compressed sensing in the field of image processing. One of these interesting applications is to help recover missing samples of a damaged or lossy image signal which is also known as image inpainting. There are dozens of reasons why an image may get damaged, for instance, during data transmission, some blocks of an image (or frames of a video ) may get lost due to error in the telecommunication channel (this is known as block-loss). In this case image...
