    Abstract
Ionic liquids (ILs) have been considered as a good candidate to be replaced by the conventional solvent in recent years due to their potential consumptions and unique properties. In the present study, artificial neural network was used to predict the ternary viscosity of mixtures containing ILs. A collection of 729 experimental data points were gathered from the previously public shed literatures. Different topologies of a multilayer feed forward artificial neural network (MFFANN) were examined and optimum architecture was determined. Ternary viscosity data from the literature for 5 ILs with 547 data points have been used to train the network. In addition, to differentiate dissimilar...

Thermal and power aware task mapping on 3D Network on Chip

    , Article Computers and Electrical Engineering ; Volume 51 , 2016 , Pages 157-167 ; 00457906 (ISSN) Mosayyebzadeh, A ; Mehdizadeh Amiraski, A ; Hessabi, S ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
High integration and increased elements density in 3D Network on Chip (NoC) will cause more energy consumption and high temperature on chip. By mapping those tasks that have data communication between them to near cores, the communication delay and therefore, power consumption will be reduced. In addition, mapping the tasks to cores that are near the heat sink, in such a way that the generated heat is distributed indiscriminately all over the chip, will decrease maximum chip temperature. In this paper, we propose a task mapping method based on fuzzy logic that aims to alleviate power and thermal problems in 3D-NoCs. In this method, the weight of task mapping factors can be changed according...

Structured multiblock body-fitted grids solution of transient inverse heat conduction problems in an arbitrary geometry

    , Article Numerical Heat Transfer, Part B: Fundamentals ; Volume 54, Issue 3 , July , 2008 , Pages 260-290 ; 10407790 (ISSN) Azimi, A ; Kazemzadeh Hannani, S ; Farhanieh, B ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The aim of this study is to develop iterative regularization algorithms based on parameter and function estimation techniques to solve two-dimensional/axisymmetric transient inverse heat conduction problems in curvilinear coordinate system. The multiblock method is used for geometric decomposition of the physical domain into regions with patched-overlapped interface grids. The central finite-difference version of the alternating-direction implicit technique together with structured body-fitted grids is implemented for numerical solution of the direct problem and other partial differential equations derived by inverse analysis. The approach of estimating unknown parameters and functions is...

Experimental study of evaporator surface area influence on a closed loop pulsating heat pipe performance

    , Article American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Fluids Engineering Division (Publication) FEDSM, 8 July 2012 through 12 July 2012, Rio Grande ; Volume 2 , 2012 , Pages 233-238 ; 08888116 (ISSN) ; 9780791844762 (ISBN) Tabatabaee, M. H ; Mohammadi, M ; Shafii, M. B ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Pulsating Heat Pipes are an effective mean for heat removal with the potential for a widespread application in electronic packaging. An experimental study a Closed Loop Pulsating Heat Pipe (CLPHP) constructed of copper tubes formed into four meandering turns is presented. Once configured in a vertical orientation the lower portion of the CLPHP comes in contact with a heat source (called the evaporator) from which it will remove heat through the pulsating action of the two-phase mixture contained within the initially evacuated copper tubes eventually transfer the heat to a heat sink (known as the condenser). Heat fluxes can be measured using temperature data gathered from experiments....

Development of a radiation based heat model for satellite attitude determination

    , Article Aerospace Science and Technology ; Volume 82-83 , 2018 , Pages 479-486 ; 12709638 (ISSN) Labibian, A ; Pourtakdoust, S. H ; Alikhani, A ; Fourati, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Masson SAS  2018
    Abstract
This paper is focused on the development and verification of a heat attitude model (HAM) for satellite attitude determination. Within this context, the Sun and the Earth are considered as the main external sources of radiation that could effect the satellite surface temperature changes. Assuming that the satellite orbital position (navigational data) is known, the proposed HAM provides the satellite surface temperature with acceptable accuracy and also relates the net heat flux (NHF) of three orthogonal satellite surfaces to its attitude via the inertial to satellite transformation matrix. The proposed HAM simulation results are verified through comparison with commercial thermal analysis...

Designing a polymerase chain reaction device working with radiation and convection heat transfer

    , Article 2017 International Conference on Nanomaterials and Biomaterials, ICNB 2017, 11 December 2017 through 13 December 2017 ; Volume 350, Issue 1 , 2018 ; 17578981 (ISSN) Madadelahi, M ; Kalan, K ; Shamloo, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Gene proliferation is vital for infectious and genetic diseases diagnosis from a blood sample, even before birth. In addition, DNA sequencing, genetic finger-print analyzing, and genetic mutation detecting can be mentioned as other procedures requiring gene reproduction. Polymerase chain reaction, briefly known as PCR, is a convenient and effective way to accomplish this task; where the DNA containing sample faces three temperature phases alternatively. These phases are known as denaturation, annealing, and elongation/extension which in this study -regarding the type of the primers and the target DNA sequence- are set to occur at 95, 58, and 72 degrees of Celsius. In this study, a PCR device...

An experimental investigation of asphaltene precipitation during natural production of heavy and light oil reservoirs: The role of pressure and temperature

    , Article Petroleum Science and Technology ; Volume 29, Issue 10 , 2011 , Pages 1054-1065 ; 10916466 (ISSN) Alizadeh, A ; Nakhli, H ; Kharrat, R ; Ghazanfari, M. H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Many oil reservoirs encounter asphaltene precipitation as a major problem during natural production. In spite of numerous experimental studies, the effect of temperature on asphaltene precipitation during pressure depletion at reservoir conditions is still obscure in the literature. To study their asphaltene precipitation behavior at different temperatures, two Iranian light and heavy live oil samples were selected. First, different screening criteria were applied to evaluate asphaltene instability of the selected reservoirs using pressure, volume, and temperature data. Then, a high pressure, high temperature filtration (HPHT) setup was designed to investigate the asphaltene precipitation...
