A new model based on multilayer kinetic adsorption mechanism for asphaltenes adsorption in porous media during dynamic condition

    , Article Fluid Phase Equilibria ; Vol. 375, issue , 2014 , Pages 236-245 ; ISSN: 03783812 Jafari Behbahani, T ; Ghotbi, C ; Taghikhani, V ; Shahrabadi, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this work, a new model based on multilayer kinetic adsorption mechanism has been proposed to account asphaltene adsorption in porous media under dynamic condition and the model was verified using experimental data obtained in this work and also with those reported in the literature. In the proposed model two steps are considered for asphaltene adsorption. The first step is taken as adsorption of asphaltenes on the surface of the porous media and the second step is taken as adsorption of asphaltenes on the asphaltenes already adsorbed on the porous media. The Crank-Nicholson method, central difference in space and trapezoidal rule in time, giving second order convergence in time was...

    , Article Fullerenes Nanotubes and Carbon Nanostructures ; Vol. 22, issue. 4 , 2014 , pp. 322-331 ; ISSN: 1536383X Ghanbari, B ; Mahloojy, N ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The interaction of [60]fullerene with a newly synthesized series of 17-to 21-membered macrocyclic ligands containing an O2N3-donor set has been investigated. The formation constants (K) arising from their complexation with [60]fullerene macrocycles, having various ring size, were measured in CHCl3 media by UV-visible spectroscopy applying Benesi-Hildebrand (BH) equation and their stoichiometries were also determined by the Job method. The best K value was measured for 20-membered ring macrocycle in which a 1:1 complexation stoichiometry with [60]fullerene was dominant. Furthermore, 1H NMR spectroscopy data reveled that the macrocylic ligand coordinates [60]fullerene via the nitrogen-donor...

    Abstract
Mixed-convection flow of nanofluids inside a vertical rectangular channel partially filled with open-cell metal foam and subject to a constant wall-heat flux was investigated experimentally and numerically. Al2O3-water nanofluids with different concentrations were prepared and their stability was examined using UV-Vis spectroscopy. Dynamic light scattering method was used to determine particle size distribution of the nanofluid feedstock. The outlet temperature and pressure drop were measured for different nanofluid flow rates (i.e., Reynolds number values). In the numerical section, a two-dimensional volume-averaged form of the governing equations was used. The velocity and temperature...

    Abstract
A new facile strategy for fabrication of high surface area electrode in the form of mixtures of coated carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and TiO2 nanoparticles with various weight ratios is reported. The so-called polymeric gel process was used to deposit thick film containing uniform distribution of TiO2 nanoparticles and coated CNTs with high porosity by dip coating for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) applications. Based on simultaneous differential thermal analysis, the minimum annealing temperature to obtain inorganic- and organic-free films was determined at 500°C. X-ray diffraction analysis revealed that deposited films were composed of primary nanoparticles with crystallite size in the range...

    Abstract
Green and simple synthesis strategies have gained tremendous popularity for the production of anisotropically-shaped noble metallic nanoparticles. The long-term stability of the produced particles, the short timescale of the target reaction(s), as well as the use of non-toxic chemicals, are pivotal features of a useful green procedure. Herein we describe a simple and convenient wet-chemical approach to synthesize stable, non-toxic and water-soluble small gold nanotriangles (GNTs) and gold nanospheres (GNSs) in one step at room temperature, using Tween 20 and Tween 80, respectively. A high level of purity and monodispersity was obtained for the GNTs, in addition to an excellent colloidal...

    Abstract
The interaction of [60]fullerene with a series of 15-19-membered macrocycles containing an O 2N 2-donor set has been investigated by UV-visible spectroscopy. The formation constants arising from the complexation of [60]fullerene with these azacrown macrocycles, having various ring size, were determined in CHCl 3 media applying Benesi-Hildebrand equation. The stoichiometry has been found by the Job method in each case. The thermodynamic parameters, for example, formation enthalpies (δH o) and entropies (δS o), for these complexation were also determined. Experimentally, it was found that macroring size of the azacrown has a prominent effect on azacrown complexation with [60]fullerene in terms...

    , Article Applied Physics A: Materials Science and Processing ; Volume 107, Issue 2 , May , 2012 , Pages 497-502 ; 09478396 (ISSN) Mohammadi, M. R ; Zarghami, V ; Fray, D. J ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
The morphological manipulation, structural characterization, and optical properties of different CdSe nanocrystals were reported. Several different CdSe nanostructures, including nanowires, tetrapod crystals, and nanoparticles were grown by varying the volume ratio of triethylenetetraamine (TETA) and water (WA) in their mixed solution. By manipulating the growth driving force (i.e., the degree of supersaturation) and kinetics of the process (i.e., growth rate), the morphology and crystal structure of CdSe nanocrystals can be tailored. Growth driving force changed their morphology from nanowires to tetrapod structures and from the latter structure to nanoparticles. Moreover, kinetics of the...

    , Article Transactions of the Indian Ceramic Society ; Volume 70, Issue 4 , Jan , 2011 , Pages 227-232 ; 0371750X (ISSN) Karbassi, M ; Nemati, A ; Zari, M. H ; Ahadi, K ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
The microemulsion method was successfully used to prepare a series of TiO2, Fe oxide and SiO2 doped TiO2 nanoparticles at Fe/Ti atomic ratio of 10% and Si/Ti atomic ratio of 15%. The molar ratio of water to surfactant (W0) was 2. The samples were calcinated at 350°C. The structural features of TiO2, Fe oxide and SiO 2-TiO2 were investigated by XRD, UV-Visible spectroscopy, SEM and TEM. XRD data verified the formation of typical characteristic anatase form in all the prepared Fe and SiO2-doped TiO2 samples. In comparison with the pure TiO2, Fe oxide and SiO 2-TiO2 samples were relatively large in particle size, indicating that doping with Fe oxide and SiO2 can help in increasing the particle...

    Abstract
The light scattering, harvesting and adsorption effects in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) are studied by preparation of coated carbon nanotubes (CNTs) with TiO2 and Zr-doped TiO2 nanoparticles in the forms of mono- and double-layer cells. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis reveals that the phase composition of Zr-doped TiO2 electrode is a mixture of anatase and rutile phases with major rutile content, whereas it is the same mixture with major anatase content for coated CNTs with TiO2. Furthermore, the average crystallite size of Zr-doped TiO2 electrode is slightly decreased with Zr introduction. Field emission scanning electron...

Parameters related to kinetics and isotherm models were calculated and discussed. It was found that adsorption is well-described by pseudo-second-order kinetics and...

Morphology transition control of polyaniline from nanotubes to nanospheres in a soft template method

    , Article Polymer International ; Volume 64, Issue 1 , June , 2015 , Pages 88-95 ; 09598103 (ISSN) Pirhady Tavandashti, N ; Ghorbani, M ; Shojaei, A ; Sharif University of Technology
John Wiley and Sons Ltd  2015
    Abstract
A soft template route is reported for the fabrication of polyaniline nanospheres via the oxidative polymerization of aniline in the presence of β-naphthalenesulfonic acid (β-NSA) as both surfactqant and dopant, and ammonium persulfate as oxidant at 2-5°C. Control over the morphology and size of the nanoparticles was achieved by changing the reaction medium via addition of an organic cosolvent (i.e. ethanol or ethylene glycol) and by controlling the concentrations of aniline and β-NSA and the molar ratio of β-NSA to aniline. By this means the size of the β-NSA-aniline micelles and the way that aniline monomer interacts with the micelles were controlled. In fact the lower dielectric constant...
