    Enhanced singlet oxygen production under nanoconfinement using silica nanocomposites towards improving the photooxygenation’s conversion

    Abstract
    In this contribution, the effect of physical immobilization of methylene blue (MB) into silica nanocomposites was investigated on the conversion and selectivity of the photooxygenation of anthracene and dihydroartemisinic acid (DHAA). Physically immobilized photocatalysts were synthesized through a developed Stöber method and were thoroughly characterized by UV–Vis, FTIR, XRD, XPS, SEM, TEM, HR-TEM, BET-BJH, and EDX analyses. Based on the TEM and UV–Vis results, it was determined that enhancement of the MB concentration as an organocatalyst for the Stöber reaction led to an increase in the size of the nanoparticles from 54 to 183 nm and a 21 nm blue shift in their UV–Vis spectra.     Tungsten oxide nanoparticles were fabricated by a pulsed laser ablation method in deionized water using the first harmonic of a Nd:YAG laser (λ = 1064 nm) at three different laser pulse energies (E1 = 160, E2 = 370 and E3 = 500 mJ/pulse), respectively. The aim is to investigate the effect of laser pulse energy on the size distribution and gasochromic property of colloidal nanoparticles.     In the present study, bubble-driven magnesium-based micromotors were fabricated through a shading method, and the potential of magnetic guidance of magnesium-based Janus micro/nanomotors through functionalization with superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) was investigated for the first time. SPIONs had physical electrostatic attraction with the positively charged magnesium spheres due to negative charges on their surfaces.     Graphene oxide (GO) was chemically modified withpara-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) to immobilize copper(ii) ions on its surface and used as a nanocatalyst for the oxidative C(sp2)-H bond amination reaction. A practical method to prepare Cu2+supported onpara-aminobenzoic acid grafted on GO was reported. The prepared Cu2+@GO/PABA was characterized by FT-IR, XRD, SEM, AFM, TEM, UV-Vis, and ICP techniques.     The present investigation introduces a new series of cycloplatinated(II) complexes, with the general formula Pt(O-bpy)(Me)(CN-R)] (R = benzyl, 2-naphtyl and tert-butyl), which are able to generate the stable trans-Pt(IV) product in the solution after the reaction with iodomethane. In fact, the trans product is both the kinetic and thermodynamic product of the reaction; this observation was supported by DFT calculations.
