, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Fallah, Samira (Author) ; Kianfar, Farhad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Scheduling has been an active area of research for decades. A substantial amount of work has been done to define, classify, and solve scheduling problems. Most of these problems are computationally difficult to solve, and incorporating other decisions into them increases the complexity of these problems. This thesis focuses on order acceptance and scheduling (OAS) problems, and proposes time-indexed mixed integer and linear programming (MILP) models for the first time. An OAS problem can be defined with parameters of processing time, release date, due date, and deadline for each order. There are also a maximum revenue that will be brought by each order and an importance weight of each order....

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sadeghi, Nafiseh (Author) ; Akbari Jokar, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Todays, given the existence of a strong competitive environment in the industry, supply chains should be quick and reactive, in addition to keeping their costs down. Transit warehouses and warehousing issues are one of the most efficient techniques that reduce inventory costs, while increasing the flow of goods and shorter transport cycles. Regardless of how a warehouse system is designed, the allocation and sequencing of input and output trucks to platforms is considered necessary. The inappropriate sequence of input and output trucks on the platforms increases the completion time of the operation. Also, the uncertainty and unpredictable circumstances of the real world make planning and...

Design and Implementation of an Offline Scheduling and Resource Allocating Algorithm for Distributed Big Data Stream Processing Systems

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Divband, Arman (Author) ; Goudarzi, Maziar (Supervisor)
    Abstract
One of the most important categories of big data processing is stream processing. In stream processing, processing of data is performed simultaneously with the production of data. one of the most well-known frameworks used for stream processing is Apache Storm. By default, Storm uses a round-robin scheduler to allocate tasks to physical machines. This scheduler randomly performs scheduling and assignment of tasks to physical machines without considering the processing power of physical machines and processing tasks, which makes it impossible to properly utilize the processing resources. In this paper, a scheduling algorithm and resource allocation have been proposed based on the processing...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Gharehbaghi, Alireza (Author) ; Salmasi, Nasser (Supervisor) ; Shavandi, Hassan (Co-Supervisor) ; Najafi, Amir Abbas (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
This study deals with the heuristic solution of flexible flow shop scheduling problems with unrelated parallel machines. No preemption of jobs is allowed. As an objective function, this paper considers the minimization of total tardiness. As a first step to propose solution, two different mixed integer mathematical models are developed which tackle the problem at hand. The problem is NP-hard and thus the developed mathematical program can only solve problem instances for small sizes in a reasonable amount of time. The next step is to build heuristics which can provide feasible solutions in polynomial time for larger problem instances. Then in the study develops a constructive heuristic for...

Scheduling in Communication Networks: Inherent Limitations and Analytical Tools

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Sharifnassab, Arsalan (Author) ; Golestani, Jamaloddin (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Scheduling algorithms are responsible for allocation of various types of resources, interference management, and choosing the times and paths through which messages are to be delivered in a communication network. We consider certain fundamental problems in network scheduling. Any scheduling algorithm, to be practical, must have tractable computational complexity and tolerable delay. In the first part of the thesis, we address the following question: “for a given class of networks, does there exist a scheduling algorithm that performs polynomially many computations (in terms of the network dimensions), while keeping the expected delay of the network polynomially bounded (again in terms of the...

Aging Mitigation for Arithmetic and Logic Unit of a Processor

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sharifi, Ferdous (Author) ; Hesabi, Shahin (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Shrinking the dimensions of transistors in recent fabrication technologies has led to an increase in the aging rate of chips, as the most important challenge in reliability of new processors. Bias Temperature Instability (BTI) and Hot Carrier Injection (HCI) are amongst the most important adverse effect of transistor shrinkage. These two effects decrease the switching speed of transistors by increasing its threshold voltage over time. Threshold voltage shift causes timing violation in combinational parts of circuit and decreases the robustness of sequential parts against soft errors. Between different units of a processor, Arithmetic and Logic Unit (ALU) is one of the most susceptible units...
