Effect of Size and Surface Conditions of Titanium Dioxide Nanoparticles on Sonodynamic Therapy Process

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Soleimani, Foad (Author) ; Madaah Hosseini, Hamid Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In the present study, a simple synthesis route was used to obtain Titanium dioxide nanoparticles with aggregates different in size. The purpose was to study the effect of TiO2 nanoparticles size on photocatalytic activity and develop it to sonocatalytic properties. Surface modification with polymeric and/or anionic agents were carried out to stabilize titania nanoparticles in aqueous media with neutral pH, specifically in SBF. Sonocatalytic properties of modified and bare particles were compared to show if the particles may be used in future studies on sonodynamic therapy. Results showed that increment in size of the aggregates, similar to primary particles, lead to lower properties due to...

Polymeric Membrane Modification for Nitrogen-Compounds Removal from Aqueous Phase

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Amiri, Sajjad (Author) ; Musavi, Abbas (Supervisor) ; Bastani, Dariush (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this research, a novel nanofiltration membrane was used to separate nitrate from water as a nitrogen-containing compound. The membrane was fabricated by interfacial polymerization on the modified polysulfone substrate. To improve the efficiency of nitrate removal, several surface and bulk modifiers were used. As modified with LiCl and PVP polymer, the substrate matrix was modified to have the highest porosity to reduce the mass transfer resistance and the much surface area to form a polyamide layer on it. The polyamide layer was then synthesized by interfacial polymerization using a blend of MPD and PIP in different ratios (1: 1 optimum ratio) in reaction with TMC (optimum concentration...

In the presence of benzyl alcohols with lethal electron groups, the oxidation conditions are stricter and the reaction efficiency is lower....

Estimation of Chitgar Lake Evaporation and the Impact of Chemical Coverings on its Reduction

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Nejatian, Amir (Author) ; Tajrishy, Masoud (Supervisor) ; Irajizad, Azam (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Reducing water evaporation is one of the ways to overcome the low precipitation and drought conditions in water reservoirs. For this purpose, extensive studies have been investigated on physical and chemical coatings on lakes and reservoirs. Physical methods often involve the use of floating covers on the water surface to block evaporation by shading, most of which are only suitable for reservoirs with surface areas smaller than 5 hectares. In chemical methods, the evaporation can be decreased by nanomaterial coating, usually, containing long-chain molecules, which by spraying them on the surface, molecular monolayers are formed. In this study, the effect of nanometer coatings on the surface...

Design, Optimization and Fabrication of Multiplex Scaffold for Tissue Engineering Applications

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Bakhtiari, Mohammad Ali (Author) ; Shamloo, Amir (Supervisor) ; Hosseini, Vahid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Cartilage is a connective tissue, whose most important role in the body is to create a surface with a low friction coefficient in order to allow bones to slide on each other without direct contact to transfer loads. Articular cartilage is always under a harsh biomechanical environment and lacks blood, lymphatic and nerve vessels. As a result, it limits the capacity of this tissue to improve and restore itself. According to experimental efforts, cartilage cannot be regenerated spontaneously without the support of healthy subchondral bone. In recent years, the implantation of tissue engineering scaffolds has been considered as an effective strategy for the treatment of osteochondral damage....
