    Abstract
The durability of novel metallic artifacts and buildings is an open issue, and the role of smart protecting coatings in extending these artifacts’ lifetimes is crucial. In this paper, the role of γ-Fe2 O3 nanoparticles and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) nanosheets on enhancing the self-cleaning properties of composite TiO2 films and reducing metal alterations due to contact with acid rain and pollutants is investigated. The photocatalytic assessment of the TiO2 based films indicates that there are optimum contents for γ-Fe2 O3 and rGO, which confer the film lower bandgap and tune the TiO2 anatase/rutile ratio. By adding a proper content of γ-Fe2 O3, wettability is reduced both in dark and...

Influence of aluminide diffusion coating on low cycle fatigue properties of René 80

    , Article Materials Science and Engineering A ; Volume 486, Issue 1-2 , 2008 , Pages 686-695 ; 09215093 (ISSN) Rahmani, Kh ; Nategh, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    2008
    Abstract
Low cycle fatigue is one of the most important phenomena affecting the lifetime of jet engine blades. In this paper, the effect of aluminide diffusion coating (CODEP-B) on low cycle fatigue properties of René 80 has been studied at temperature of 871 °C, R = 0 and strain rate of about 2 × 10-3 s-1. Experimental results show that the applied cyclic strain is lower than 0.8%, the presence of aforesaid coating increases the fatigue lifetime. In coated specimens, while the total cyclic strain is lower than 0.8%, the nucleation of the cracks occurs merely in substrate, but in cyclic strain more than 1%, as a result of simultaneous nucleation of cracks in the coating surface, diffusion layer and...

    , Article Engineering Solid Mechanics ; Volume 9, Issue 2 , 2021 , Pages 111-122 ; 22918744 (ISSN) Khorasani, R ; Hosseini Kordkheili, S. A ; Parviz, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Growing Science  2021
    Abstract
This work aims to present an experimentally verified analytical solution to examine damping properties of systems including viscoelastic treatments. Although there are several methods for characterizing the behavior of three-layer damping systems, the RKU method is the most frequently used one. In this paper, this method is modified such a way that to be applied for a five-layer damping system. The achieved analytical relations are then employed to study the effects of a four-layer vibration-absorbing coating on the dynamic behavior of an aluminum sheet with free-free boundary conditions. Since the vibration-damping properties of the coating are unknowns, its loss factor and shear modulus...

    Abstract
The high aspect ratio and unique thermal and electrical characteristics of carbon nanofiber (CNF) made it an ideal physical barrier against the penetration of corrosive ions. However, the poor compatibility of the CNF with the polymer matrix and the lack of active corrosion inhibitors are the key limitations of this nanomaterial, resulting in short-term anti-corrosion resistance. An intelligent self-healing epoxy (EP) coating, including CNF modified with a polydopamine (PDA)-La3+ complex, was successfully fabricated to overcome these issues. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) evaluation implied that mild steel (MS) submerged in a 3.5 wt % NaCl solution containing the CNF-PDA-La...

    Abstract
Bipolar Plates (BPPs) are the most crucial component of the Polymer Electrolyte Membrane (PEM) fuel cell system. To improve fuel cell stack performance and lifetime, corrosion resistance and Interfacial Contact Resistance (ICR) enhancement are two essential factors for metallic BPPs. One of the most effective methods to achieve this purpose is adding a thin solid film of conductive coating on the surfaces of these plates. In the present study, 410 Stainless Steel (SS) was selected as a metallic bipolar plate. The coating process was performed using titanium nitride and chromium nitride by the Cathodic Arc Evaporation (CAE) method. The main focus of this study was to select the best coating...
