    , Article Journal of Solid State Electrochemistry ; Vol. 18, Issue 4 , April , 2014 , pp. 993-1003 ; Online ISSN: 1433-0768 Kahram, M ; Asnavandi, M ; Dolati, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Ruthenium oxide was coated on multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) to obtain nanocomposite electrode which has a good response to the pH. To synthesize this electrode, gold and cobalt were coated on a stainless steel 304 substrates, respectively, and then, vertically aligned carbon nanotubes were grown on the prepared substrates by chemical vapor deposition. Gold reduced activity of the stainless steel, while cobalt served as a catalyst for growth of the carbon nanotube. Ruthenium oxide was then coated on MWCNTs via sol-gel method. At last, different techniques were used to characterize the properties of synthesized electrode including scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission...

    , Article Ceramics International ; Vol. 40, issue. 6 , 2014 , pp. 8613-8619 Ashiri, R ; Nemati, A ; Sasani Ghamsari, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this report, crack-free nanostructured barium titanate thin films are prepared by a sol-gel processing method. Glacial acetic acid, barium acetate, titanium tetraisopropyl alkoxide, 2-propanol and deionized water are used as precursors for preparing stable precursor solution. Then very thin films (thickness=26 nm) are deposited on fused silica substrates. In order to prepare crack-free thin films of BaTiO3, much attention is given to solvent evaporation process and a controlled pre-drying process is developed. It is found that the control of the process, especially in the initial stage of drying process is crucial and important for preparation of the crack-free ultrathin nanostructured...

    , Article Ceramics International ; Vol. 41, issue. 1 , 2014 , pp. 217-224 ; ISSN: 02728842 Sajjadnejad, M ; Ghorbani, M ; Afshar, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Zinc-TiO2 nano-composite coatings were synthesized by Direct Current (DC) and Pulse Current (PC) electrodeposition techniques. The effects of the plating parameters on the microstructure, codeposition percentage of TiO2 and corrosion behavior were investigated. The coatings morphology presents hexagonal grains perpendicularly oriented to the surface. Under DC conditions, TiO2 content of the coatings decreased with increasing TiO2 concentration of the electrolyte. Increasing applied current and TiO2 concentration in the bath leads to a fine microstructure with corrosion currents as low as 2.7 μA/cm2. Under PC conditions, incorporation rate of nanoparticles tends to increase with increasing...

    , Article RSC Advances ; Vol. 4, issue. 1 , April , 2014 , p. 301-307 Pazoki, M ; Nafari, N ; Taghavinia, N ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Core/shell structure of ZnO nanowires coated with a monolayer of TiO 2 is investigated using Density Functional Theory (DFT). The electronic states of the semiconductor is calculated and compared before and after coating of the TiO2 monolayer on a ZnO [101 0] surface. The effect of TiO2 coating induce surface states changes and shifts the conduction and valence band edges to higher energies. Our results, in qualitative agreement with the experimental work of Matt Law et al. (J. Phys. Chem. B, 110, 22652), show an increase in open circuit voltage and a decrease in short circuit current in ZnO/TiO2 core shell dye sensitized solar cells. Regarding the semiconductor density of states (DOS), TiO2...

    , Article Journal of the Taiwan Institute of Chemical Engineers ; Vol. 45, issue. 3 , May , 2014 , p. 887-895 Soghrati, E ; Kazemeini, M ; Rashidi, A. M ; Jozani, K. J ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
An acid treatment of the cordierite monolith followed by coating of the CNT onto it by means of catalytic decomposition of methane was performed. The resulting material utilized as the support for the CoMo catalyst. The characterization outcomes showed that the CNTs were distributed uniformly on the surface of the monolith leading to a high BET surface area and relatively good adhered mesoporous layer of CNTs. Moreover, the catalytic activity of the resulting catalysts determined in an HDS reaction of naphtha. It was concluded that the activity of the CoMo catalyst over the CNT coated monolithic support (FACNT) was higher than that of the CoMo deposited onto the acid-treated monolith and...

The effect of material property grading on the rolling contact stress field

    , Article Mechanics Research Communications ; Vol. 55, issue , 2014 , p. 45-52 Alinia, Y ; Guler, M. A ; Adibnazari, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
This paper investigates the subsurface stress field induced by a rigid cylinder rolling over a functionally graded coating-substrate system. The Fourier transform is employed to extract the stress components within the graded coating and the homogeneous substrate. The distributions of the stresses are given through the depth and along the coating-substrate interface. The contour plots of normalized Von Mises stresses are provided as well. The results indicate that continuous variation of the shear modulus substantially reduces the difference between the in-plane stresses along the interface. Also, the softening coating leads to the minimum value of the stress concentration near the contact...

On the contact mechanics of a rolling cylinder on a graded coating. Part 1: Analytical formulation

    , Article Mechanics of Materials ; Vol. 68, issue , 2014 , p. 207-216 Alinia, Y ; Guler, M. A ; Adibnazari, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this paper, the fully coupled rolling contact problem of a graded coating/substrate system under the action of a rigid cylinder is investigated. Using the singular integral equation approach, the governing equations of the rolling contact problem are constructed for all possible stick/slip regimes. Applying the Gauss-Chebyshev numerical integration method, the governing equations are converted to systems of algebraic equations. A new numerical algorithm is proposed to solve these systems of equations. Both the coupled and the uncoupled solutions to the problem are found through an implemented iterative procedure. In Part I of this paper, the analytical formulation of the rolling contact...

    , Article Mechanics of Materials ; Vol. 75 , 2014 , pp. 1-12 ; ISSN: 01676636 Shodja, H. M ; Jarfi, H ; Rashidinejad, E ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The dynamic equivalent inclusion method (DEIM) which was first proposed by Fu and Mura (1983), in its original context has some shortcomings, which were pointed out and remedied by Shodja and Delfani (2009) who introduced the new consistency conditions along with the related micromechanically substantiated notion of eigenstress and eigenbody-force fields. However, these theories are bound to elastic media with isotropic phases. The present work extends the idea of the above-mentioned new DEIM to the dynamic electro-mechanical equivalent inclusion method (DEMEIM) for the treatment of the scattering of SH-waves by a two-phase circular piezoelectric obstacle bonded to a third phase...

    , Article Microfluidics and Nanofluidics ; Vol. 17, issue. 1 , July , 2014 , p. 181-198 Mehboudi, A ; Saidi, M. S ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this paper, we present a novel wall boundary condition model, which stands just on the physical facts, for the dissipative particle dynamics (DPD) method. After the validation of this model by means of the common benchmarks such as the Couette and the Poiseuille flows, we study the effects of this model on the diffusion coefficient in a wide variety of different coarse-graining levels. The obtained results show that the proposed model preserves the thermodynamics of the system, also eliminates the spurious effects of the wall, and consequently is able to preserve the accurate structural characteristics of the working DPD fluid in the wall's vicinity. We also study the fluid flow through a...

    Abstract
In the present paper, an optimization of thermal barrier coating parameters is performed for diesel engine applications. The substrate is A356.0-T7, a cast aluminum alloy which has a vast application in diesel engines, and the alloy is coated by plasma sprayed ZrO2-8 wt.% Y2O3. Parameters including the feed rate of coating powders, the nozzle distance to specimen surfaces, and the coating thickness are optimized by thermal shock fatigue tests and bending tests. Optimum values of the feed rate and the nozzle distance are 30 g/min and 80 mm, respectively, when the objective is considered as maximizing the bending strength. Thermal shock tests demonstrate that lower thickness of coating layers...
