    , Article Physical Review E - Statistical, Nonlinear, and Soft Matter Physics ; Volume 87, Issue 2 , 2013 ; 15393755 (ISSN) Mazloomi, A ; Moosavi, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
A multicomponent lattice Boltzmann scheme is used to investigate the surface coating of substrates with two topographical features by a gravity-driven thin liquid film. The considered topographies are U- and V-shaped grooves and mounds. For the case of substrates with two grooves, our results indicate that for each of the grooves there is a critical width such that if the groove width is larger than the critical width, the groove can be coated successfully. The critical width of each groove depends on the capillary number, the contact angle, the geometry, and the depth of that groove. The second groove critical width depends on, in addition, the geometry and the depth of the first groove;...

    Abstract
Cu-Sn composites incorporated with graphite and/or SiC particles were produced by electrodeposition technique. The effect of particle concentration in the plating bath and current density on tin content and volume percentage of particles in the coatings has been investigated. Structure, morphology, micro hardness and wear properties of the coatings have been studied. The results showed that particles cause an increase of tin content in the plated Cu-Sn. Graphite and silicon carbide particles had different effects on coating hardness; 7.8. vol.% graphite decreased the hardness of Cu-Sn layer from 231. Hv to 172. Hv whereas, 5.1. vol.% SiC raised the hardness to 316. Hv. Moreover, friction...

    , Article Protection of Metals and Physical Chemistry of Surfaces ; Volume 49, Issue 1 , January , 2013 , Pages 109-112 ; 20702051 (ISSN) Barati, N ; Faghihi Sani, M. A ; Ghasemi, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
Uniform nanostructure anatase films were coated on 316L stainless steel by the sol-gel dip coating method. Sols with different values of pH were applied. The corrosion protective behavior of coated samples was investigated by electrochemical measurements in 0.5 molar NaCl solutions on samples placed under UV illumination and dark condition using Tafel curves. It was found that in addition to acting as a physical barrier, anatase thin films are more protective under UV illumination due to photocathodic protection. Neutral sols give better protection due to formation of more uniform and less defective coatings

    , Article International Heat Treatment and Surface Engineering ; Volume 6, Issue 4 , December , 2012 , Pages 178-184 ; 17495148 (ISSN) Salehi Doolabi, M ; Sadrnezhaad, S. K ; Salehi Doolabi, D ; Asadirad, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
Cr and Cr-Al2O3 coatings were electrodeposited from Cr(III) bath with both pulsating and direct current onto copper substrates. Pulsating current resulted in homogeneous films of higher Al2O3 content and lower particle agglomeration than the direct current. Differences were more tangible at shorter duty cycles and pulse frequencies. Pulsating current improved both microhardness and corrosion resistance. The presence of alumina nanoparticles resulted in greater current efficiency, higher film microhardness and better corrosion resistance. Maximum current efficiency, highest microhardness and densest electrodeposited coatings were achieved at current density of 20 A dm-2, duty cycle of 40% and...

    Abstract
The properties of Functionally Graded Materials (FGM) are characterized by gradual variation of volume fraction of their constituents or phases over the thickness direction. They are normally ceramic in one side and metal in the other side. This kind of material has been employed as thermal barrier and also as coatings in many applications including turbine blades. Thermal stress behavior of FGMs is normally studied by simulating the material as a composite laminate where the properties ofeach layer are found by averaging the properties and volume fraction of FGM constituents through the thickness of the layer. However, it should be mentioned that the grains of FGM constituents are usually...

    Abstract
The main purpose of this paper is modeling and simulation of in-situ releasing of smart nano-sized core-shell particles at the water-oil interface during polymer flooding. During the polymer flooding process, when these nano-particles reach the water-oil interface, migrate to the oil phase and the hydrophobic layer of them dissolves in this phase. After dissolution of this protective nano-sized layer, the hydrophilic core containing a water-soluble ultra high molecular weight polymer diffuses back into the water phase and with dissolving in this phase, dramatically increases viscosity of flooding water in the neighborhood of the water-oil interface. In this study, two different...

    Abstract
Mesoscopic hydrodynamic equations are solved to investigate late-stage evolution of thin liquid films over step topographies. Different geometrical parameters including step height and initial position and configuration of resultant masses of dewetting (droplets) are probed to find their effects on the mass evolution of the system. Our results indicate that increasing the step height and locating the droplets close to the step enhance the dynamics and accelerate smaller droplet collapse

    Abstract
We investigate thin liquid film coating of substrates with trenches via lattice Boltzmann method. The effects of different parameters such as the capillary number, the contact angles and geometric parameters on the results are studied. Our results indicate that for trench depths greater than a critical size coating of the trench is not successful. The critical depth increases by decreasing the capillary number. Moreover we find height, width, capillary number and contact angle under which the coating is successful. The results have been compared with the available results and very close agreement has been achieved

    Green's functions of a surface-stiffened transversely isotropic half-space

    , Article International Journal of Solids and Structures ; Volume 49, Issue 23-24 , 2012 , Pages 3282-3290 ; 00207683 (ISSN) Eskandari, M ; Ahmadi, S. F ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
Green's functions of a transversely isotropic half-space overlaid by a thin coating layer are analytically obtained. The surface coating is modeled by a Kirchhoff thin plate perfectly bonded to the half-space. With the aid of superposition technique and employing appropriate displacement potential functions, the Green's functions are expressed in two parts; (i) a closed-form part corresponding to the transversely isotropic half-space with surface kinematic constraints, and (ii) a numerically evaluated part reflecting the interaction between the half-space and the plate in the form of semi-infinite integrals. Some limiting cases of the problem such as surface-stiffened isotropic half-space,...
