    Current transformers (CTs) are the most common current sensors in power system and use with measuring instruments and protective relays. Saturation of the protective CT threatens the proper operation of relays, while, the ratio error in a measuring CT directly reduces the accuracy of power system state estimation. In this dissertation, firstly, a test device has been introduced to identify the parameters of CT low-frequency model.     The main objective of this paper is to investigate the stability and stabilization problem of fuzzy large-scale systems in which the system is composed of a number of Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy subsystems with interconnection. Instead of fuzzy parallel distributed compensation (PDC) design, nonlinear state feedback controllers are used in stabilization of the overall large-scale system. Based on Lyapunov stability theory, linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) conditions are derived for asymptotic and exponential stability.     In this paper, performance of power system stabilizer (PSS) of a large thermal power plant, as tuned by the manufacturer, is investigated. Then, the stabilizer is redesigned based on extended phase compensation of the exciter input - electrical torque transfer function and root locus analysis; and its effect on local, interplant and inter-area electromechanical oscillations is thoroughly analyzed. As Bisotoun PSS has a special structure with two inputs, frequency and power, its performance is compared with power-speed PSS. However, due to their limitations, a tradeoff between the bandwidth of the current control loop (CCL) and the voltage control loop (VCL) need to be made to remain stable in all conditions.     This study deals with a generalised version of lead/lag compensators known as fractional-order lead/lag compensators. Exact and simple formulas are found for designing this introduced type of fractional-order compensators in order to provide the required magnitude and phase at a given frequency. Also, the region in the phase-magnitude plane, which is accessible by these compensators, is analytically found. Susceptances of SVC in each phase are computed as a function of real and imaginary parts of line current.     In this paper, we propose utilizing multiple optical phase conjugate (OPC) modules along fiber spans, in order to improve the performance of coherent optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (CO-OFDM) communication systems in long-haul fiber-optic channels. The role of OPC in CO-OFDM systems is investigated by formulating the four-wave mixing (FWM) process generated along a CO-OFDM with two and three OPCs. Analytical results reveal that increasing the number of OPC modules reduces the average FWM power along the transmission link and as a result mitigates the degrading effect of interaction between amplified spontaneous emission noise and FWM.
