Renewable energy (RE) as a new player in the generation sector of power systems imposes new challenges to the system operators. The intermittent nature of REs for systems where are autonomous calls for new operational and planning strategies to reach more efficient power management. An autonomous hybrid green power system (HGPS) should be able to meet the load while keeping the cost of the HGPS as low as possible. Many studies have presented different un-optimal and optimal operational strategies, a few of which were optimally sized. In this regard, this paper develops a new thorough framework for designing and optimizing an autonomous HGPS. To reach this goal, the proposed model (a)...

    , Article 2009 International Conference on Computers and Industrial Engineering, CIE 2009, 6 July 2009 through 9 July 2009, Troyes ; 2009 , Pages 902-906 ; 9781424441365 (ISBN) Haji, R ; Pirayesh Neghab, M ; Haji, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to adopt and analyze a new ordering policycalled one-for-one-period policy in a multi-echelon supply chain consisting ofone retailer and a series of TV suppliers. The main advantage of adopting theone-for-one-period (7,7) ordering policy for retailers is the elimination ofuncertainty for supplier which leads to total elimination of the safety stocksat all suppliers. This in turn leads to the reduction of the total system costsand in case any supplier's ordering cost is negligible it can even eliminate theneed for him to carry any inventory. In addition to this advantage, thenumerical results show that the application of this new policy for the retailerleads to...

    Abstract
In the recent years, many universities invest on cubesats to prepare an appropriate environment for their students to get their hands on real experiments including design, fabrication, test, launch, operation and analysis of a real satellite project. Now after 5 years of experimentation, it is time for leaders to define more practical goals beside training students. Orienting the budget that is annually being invested on such satellites in every country to a specific goal could be a driving force in opening a new chapter in the utilization of pico-satellites and the advantages they offer. As these tiny satellites are utilized based on low cost COTS and also are light weight enough to reduce...

    Abstract
There are a vast number of cloud service providers, which offer virtual machines (VMs) with different configurations. From the companies perspective, an appropriate selection of VMs is an important issue, as the proper service selection leads to improved productivity, higher efficiency, and lower cost. An effective service selection cannot be done without a systematic approach due to the modularity of requests, the conflicts between requirements, and the impact of network parameters. In this paper, we introduce an innovative framework, called PCA, to solve service selection problem in the hybrid environment of peer-assisted, public, and private clouds. PCA detects the conflicts between the...

    Abstract
Recently, there has been a growing attention in frequent itemset mining in distributed systems. In this paper, we present an algorithm to extract frequent itemsets from large distributed datasets. Our algorithm uses gossip as the communication mechanism and does not rely on any central node. In gossip based communication, nodes repeatedly select other random nodes in the system, and exchange information with them. Our algorithm proceeds in rounds and provides all nodes with the required support counts of itemsets, such that each node is able to extract the global frequent itemsets. For local iteration and generation of candidate itemsets, a trie data structure is used, which facilitates the...

    , Article Combustion and Flame ; Volume 235 , 2022 ; 00102180 (ISSN) Mahdipour, A.H ; Salehi, M. M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Inc  2022
    Abstract
A novel functional form for approximating the conditional scalars in turbulent reacting flows is introduced based on the Bernstein polynomial. Multi-scalar measurement data of turbulent premixed and non-premixed flames are used to demonstrate that the new functional form provides an excellent reduced-order model for the conditional scalars. This model order reduction technique can be used to improve the accuracy, reduce the computational cost and enhance the spatial localization of the Conditional Source-term Estimation (CSE) model. CSE is a turbulence-chemistry interaction model similar to the Conditional Moment Closure (CMC) model, except that the conditional scalars are estimated from the...

    Abstract
This paper finds near equilibrium prices for electricity markets with non-convexities due to binary variables, in order to reduce the market participants’ opportunity costs, such as generators’ unrecovered costs. The opportunity cost is defined as the difference between the profit when the instructions of the market operator are followed and when the market participants can freely make their own decisions based on the market prices. We use the minimum complementarity approximation to the minimum total opportunity cost model, from previous research, with tests on a much more realistic unit commitment model than in previous research, including features such as reserve requirements, ramping...

    Abstract
Regarding the increasing number of electrical devices in the smart homes that leads to increase in total electricity consumption and cost, it is essential to use energy management methods to reduce the electricity cost. However, this can cause resident's dissatisfaction. Hence, it is important to define a method in which cost and dissatisfaction be optimized simultaneously. Among different services, an electric vehicle is the one that can be used as an energy storage system, so it can reduce the daily cost despite of increasing the total energy consumption. In this paper, we study the effect of the EV on the cost and dissatisfaction in our proposed method. © 2018 IEEE
