    Abstract
In this paper the principles of submarine dynamics modeling have been gathered as distinguished steps. Of course, in these few pages the details cannot be discussed and the formulae cannot be proved. The interested reader has to study more detailed references to attain a better perception of the subject. The paper, in addition to gathering and editing principles, has gone through offering simplifications in each part of modeling. Such simplifications will result in a good approximation of submarine dynamic behavior, which is exactly complicated in reality. In higher levels of modeling each part can be completed and details can be processed

    Abstract
Dimethyl ether (DME) as a clean fuel seems to be a superior candidate for high-quality diesel fuel in near future. In this study, a comprehensive three-dimensional dynamic heterogeneous model developed to simulate the flow behavior and catalytic coupling reactions for synthesis of the DME from hydrogenation of the CO and CO2, dehydration of methanol to dimethyl ether and water gas shift reaction in a fixed bed reactor. For this purpose, a CFD simulation was articulated where the standard k-ε model with 10% turbulence tolerations implemented. Then the concentration and temperature profiles along the reactor were determined. It was revealed that under conditions considered, a single phase...

    Abstract
This work aims to present an experimentally verified analytical solution to examine damping properties of systems including viscoelastic treatments. Although there are several methods for characterizing the behavior of three-layer damping systems, the RKU method is the most frequently used one. In this paper, this method is modified such a way that to be applied for a five-layer damping system. The achieved analytical relations are then employed to study the effects of a four-layer vibration-absorbing coating on the dynamic behavior of an aluminum sheet with free-free boundary conditions. Since the vibration-damping properties of the coating are unknowns, its loss factor and shear modulus...

, Article 2003 ASME Design Engineering Technical Conferences and Computers and Information in Engineering Conference, Chicago, IL, 2 September 2003 through 6 September 2003 ; Volume 5 B , 2003 , Pages 1579-1584 Durali, M ; Borhan, H ; ASME ; Sharif University of Technology
American Society of Mechanical Engineers  2003
    Abstract
Discrete dynamic modeling of rotating Timoshenko shafts deflecting in axial, shear and bending directions is discussed in this article. The method presented here aims for developing an algorithm by which shafts with transverse cracks can easily be modeled and analyzed. To this end, a modular dynamic network is constructed, consisting of a mass, springs and dampers, resembling shaft segments between cracks. The local changes in shaft stiffness as a result of cracks rotating (opening and closing), is entered into the module models as change in springs and dampers properties. The modular model is then repeated to obtain a complete shaft model. Bond Graph method is used in a similar modular...

    Abstract
Rotating shafts have a vast application in various industries especially in the aerospace industry such as engines, compressors and turbines. The researchers have performed considerable efforts on the rotating shafts’ dynamic behavior because of their sensitivity to the rotor specifications and different parameters such as supports. In this paper by employing a pipe elbow element, an especial finite element formulation is derived to investigate dynamic behavior of rotating shaft in the presence of support clearance. The proposed element consists of four nodes with twenty-four degrees of freedom, which also accounts for the shear and gyroscopic effects. Within a finite element analysis...

Dynamic behavior and modal control of beams under moving mass

    , Article Journal of Sound and Vibration ; Volume 306, Issue 3-5 , 2007 , Pages 712-724 ; 0022460X (ISSN) Nikkhoo, A ; Rahimzadeh Rofooei, F ; Shadnam, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Academic Press  2007
    Abstract
The constitutive equation of an Euler-Bernoulli beam under the excitation of moving mass is considered. The dynamics of the uncontrolled system is governed by a linear, self-adjoint partial differential equation. A Dirac-delta function is used to describe the position of the moving mass along the beam and its inertial effects. An approximate formulation to the problem is obtained by limiting the inertial effect of the moving mass merely to the vertical component of acceleration. Having defined a "critical velocity" in terms of the fundamental period and span of the beam, it is shown that for smaller velocities, the approximate and exact approaches to the problem almost coincide. Since, the...

    , Article Thin-Walled Structures ; Volume 45, Issue 7-8 , 2007 , Pages 699-705 ; 02638231 (ISSN) Shadmehri, F ; Haddadpour, H ; Kouchakzadeh, M. A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2007
    Abstract
This paper investigates the static and dynamic characteristics of composite thin-walled beams that are constructed from a single-cell box. The structural model considered herein incorporates a number of nonclassical effects, such as material anisotropy, transverse shear, warping inhibition, nonuniform torsional model and rotary inertia. The governing equations were derived using extended Hamilton's principle and solved using extended Galerkin's method. The effects of fiber orientation on static deflection and natural frequencies are considered and a number of important conclusions are outlined. © 2007 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved

The Dynamic Behavior of Calcite Cemented Gravelly Sand – A Case Study of Tehran Soil

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Shakeri, Mohammad Reza (Author) ; Haeri, Mohsen (Supervisor) ; Sajjadi, Ali Akbar (Supervisor)
    Abstract
An understanding of the effect of degree of cementation on static and dynamic behaviour of cemented soils is becoming increasingly important in design and analysis of geotechnical engineering problems. Naturally cemented coarse-grained soils are widely present in many parts of the world. Misunderstanding of the behaviour of such soils could lead to underestimate or overestimate of the soil parameters. Previous studies conducted by Haeri and his co-workers show that most of the alluvial deposit of Tehran, the capital city of Iran, has a soil with cemented nature. The amount and characteristics of the cementation of the deposit varies in different parts from highly cemented in the north to...

Evaluation of the Methods of Circular Tunnels Lining Design Under Seismic Loads

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Motalleb Nezhad, Mohammad (Author) ; Paak, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The use of public transportation in metropolises has developed due to the increase in the population and the need for within-city transportation. Among public transportation service, the use of city subways has attracted more public interest due to its speed, safety, and matching with the environment. Also, one solution for reducing the between-city transit distances, decreasing the accidents and above all, saving the time of the travel is building tunnels and underground lines. Design and construction of underground structures (tunnels),in comparison with surfacestructures, has more complex conditions and considerations that require special studies. One challenging problem fortunnel...

    Abstract
Laminated composite beams are being widely used in engineering applications, including aerospace and automobile where the structures are highly subjected to non-deterministic random loadings, requiring a reliable technique to ensure the stability of structure during operation. A Novel N-layer model of layerwise theory (LWT) for laminated composite beams incorporated with magnetorheological fluid (MR-laminated beams) is developed. In addition, a finite element model of tapered laminated composite beams incorporated with magnetorheological fluid (MR-tapered beam) based on layerwise theory is developed. The dynamic response of the present model for uniform and tapered beams have been compared...

Dynamic behavior Analysis of a Swirl Burner using Recurrence Plotting Method

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Talebi, Mohammad Sadegh (Author) ; Farshchi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this dissertation, based on the method of recurrence plot and its application in dynamic system analysis we examine the behavior and dynamic analysis of a swirl burner. Though retrospective studies on thermoacoustic instability have been performed on single-blown premixed cone shape flames and several combustion systems but so far this method has not been considered for a real combustion system. There have also been more work on phenomena known as the flame separation from the burner (blowout) and its propagation into the burner (flashback), which is almost conscious of their process. In fact, selecting a single flame has been to eliminate the flame-flame interactions in the...

Numerical Analysis of Piles Behavior in Clay under Lateral Load

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Bedayat, Houman (Author) ; Ahmadi, Mohammad Mehdi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
There are several factors affecting the behavior and response of a pile under lateral loads. These factors can be divided into two main categories: geometrical factors (e.g. dimensions of the pile, soil, and mesh scheme) and material properties (e.g. shear modulus, bulk modulus, soil elasticity, soil density, and shear strength). Studying the effects and importance of these factors in the final response of the pile (i.e. ultimate forces and displacements) can help design engineers in optimization of their designs. Given the importance of the subject and the possibility of using numerical methods and computer technology to evaluate the behavior of piles, this research attempts to use finite...

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Karimzadeh, Ali (Author) ; Ahmadian, Mohammad Taghi (Supervisor) ; Firoozbakhsh, Kikhosro (Supervisor) ; Rahaeifard, Massuod (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
Vibrating ring gyroscopes (VRG) as MEMS devices are employed to micro scale systems for determination of the rotation rate and rotation speed of them. It is experimentally approved that micro scale structures behaves differently in comparison to macro scale systems, Therefore higher order continuum theories are required for modeling and analysis of these systems. In addition to that there is no comprehensive investigation on the dynamic performance of ring gyroscopes in the literature, In view of this in the present research the static and dynamic analysis of vibrating ring gyroscopes based on the strain gradient theory and the proposed finite element model of the gyroscope is performed. The...

Investigating the Dynamic behavior of Fracture Networks using Percolation Theory

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Barati, Hossein (Author) ; Masihi, Mohsen (Supervisor) ; Jamshidi, Saeed (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Most of petroleum reservoirs of Iran are fractured reservoirs which has different properties, geometrical structure and drive mechanism in comparison with conventional reservoirs. The major difference is the existence of interaction between fractures and matrix respectively with a high and very low permeable (or imperable) medi. One simulation method for these fractures is discrete fracture network (DFN) modeling which is used in this study to investigate dynamic properties of these fractures. In this study, matrix is assumed as an impermeable media then dynamic properties like effective permeability of fracture network for different realization reservoirs are calculated and and evaluated by...
