    Abstract
The effect of the rotational speed and dwell time on the joint interface microstructure and tensile-shear strength of friction stir spot welded Al-5083 aluminum/St-12 steel alloy sheets was investigated. Joining of the sheets was performed using an alternative friction stir spot welding (FSSW) process in which the welding tool tip did not penetrate into the lower steel sheet. Rotational speeds of 900 and 1100 rpm were applied in association with the dwell times of 5 to 15 s to weld the samples. Thermal history was recorded during the joining process. Interfacial microstructure, formation of intermetallic compounds (IMCs) at the joint interface and the fracture locations were studied using...

X-ray diffraction pattern (XRD), optical microscopy images (OM), electron probe microanalysis (EPMA) and scanning electron microscopy equipped with an energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDS)...

Microstructural and failure analysis of welded primary reformer furnace tube made of HP-Nb micro alloyed heat resistant steel

    , Article Engineering Failure Analysis ; Volume 68 , 2016 , Pages 32-51 ; 13506307 (ISSN) Attarian, M ; Karimi Taheri, A ; Jalilvand, S ; Habibi, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2016
    Abstract
In this paper, the failure of the reformer furnace tube, made of HP-Nb micro alloyed heat resistant steel is investigated. The failure was due to a longitudinal crack developing in the circumferential weld joint close to the outlet end of the tube, where the mean wall temperature had reached the highest value during service. According to the temperature records during the period of 7 years of being in service, the tube had experienced temperatures higher than the tubes designed temperature. This situation besides the occurrence of several sudden shutdowns caused the mechanical properties degradation.Macroscopic and microscopic examinations revealed that the failure had occurred due to the...

Polythiophene (PT) was synthesized by chemical oxidative polymerization in the presence of anhydrous ferric chloride while its polymeric structure was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (FTIR). Eventually, the prepared PT was...

    Abstract
The recently study of the corrosion in some bronze artefacts from the Sangtarashan Iron Age site, western Iran, was established to identify corrosion morphology and mechanism in these objects. The corrosion layers in 22 samples were studied by optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy–energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction methods. The results showed that a thin corrosion crust has formed on the surface of bronzes with a triple-layer structure, including two internal and one external corrosion layers. The formation of these layers is due to copper leaching from the bronze surface. The internal corrosion part has been a compact, tin-rich corrosion/oxidation product...
