    , Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 18, Issue 6 , December , 2011 , Pages 1564-1570 ; 10263098 (ISSN) Fazel Zarandi, M. H ; Davari, S ; Haddad Sisakht, S. A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The maximal covering location problem (MCLP) is a challenging problem with numerous applications in practice. Previous publications in the area of MCLP proposed models and presented solution methodologies to solve this problem with up to 900 nodes. Due to the fact that in real-life applications, the number of nodes could be much higher, this paper presents a customized Genetic Algorithm (GA) to solve MCLP instances, with up to 2500 nodes. Results show that the proposed approach is capable of solving problems with a fair amount of exactness. In order to fine-tune the algorithm, Tukey's Least Significant Difference (LSD) tests are employed on a set of test problems

Optimizing capacity, pricing and location decisions on a congested network with balking

    , Article Mathematical Methods of Operations Research ; Volume 74, Issue 2 , October , 2011 , Pages 233-255 ; 14322994 (ISSN) Abouee Mehrizi, H ; Babri, S ; Berman, O ; Shavandi, H ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this paper, we consider the problem of making simultaneous decisions on the location, service rate (capacity) and the price of providing service for facilities on a network. We assume that the demand for service from each node of the network follows a Poisson process. The demand is assumed to depend on both price and distance. All facilities are assumed to charge the same price and customers wishing to obtain service choose a facility according to a Multinomial Logit function. Upon arrival to a facility, customers may join the system after observing the number of people in the queue. Service time at each facility is assumed to be exponentially distributed. We first present several...

    A hybrid imperialist competitive-simulated annealing algorithm for a multisource multi-product location-routing-inventory problem

    , Article Computers and Industrial Engineering ; Volume 101 , 2016 , Pages 116-127 ; 03608352 (ISSN) Ghorbani, A ; Akbari jokar, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
This article studies a multi-product and multi-period location-routing-inventory problem in which location-allocation, inventory and routing decisions are to be taken in a three-level supply chain including suppliers, depots and customers. Products are distributed from depots to customers by a homogeneous fleet of vehicles. Backlogging is allowable on condition that the backlog quantity of each customer does not exceed a predefined fraction of his demand. A mixed-integer programming formulation is presented to describe the problem then a new hybrid heuristic algorithm based on the simulated annealing and imperialist competitive algorithm is designed to solve the model. Comprehensive...

Solving Detour-Based Fuel Stations Location Problems

    , Article Computer-Aided Civil and Infrastructure Engineering ; Volume 31, Issue 2 , 2016 , Pages 132-144 ; 10939687 (ISSN) Zockaie, A ; Aashtiani, H. Z ; Ghamami, M ; Marco Nie, Y ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
This article studies the problem of locating fuel stations to minimize the extra cost spent in refueling detours, which belongs to a class of discretionary service facility location problems. Unlike many studies of similar problems in the literature, the proposed model considers capacity constraints and compares different ways to incorporate them in the formulation. Note that ignoring the capacity constraint results in nonoptimal and unrealistic solutions. The proposed models are solved using both an off-the-shelf solver (CPLEX) and a specialized meta-heuristic method (Simulated Annealing) developed in this study. The solution methods are tested and compared in two case studies; a test...

Considering short-term and long-term uncertainties in location and capacity planning of public healthcare facilities

    , Article European Journal of Operational Research ; Volume 281, Issue 1 , 16 February , 2020 , Pages 152-173 Motallebi Nasrabadi, A ; Najafi, M ; Zolfagharinia, H ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
This paper addresses a real-world problem faced by the public healthcare sector. The problem consists of both the patients’ and service provider's requirements (i.e., accessibility vs. costs) for locating healthcare facilities, allocating service units to those facilities, and determining the facilities’ capacities. The main contribution of this study is capturing both short-term and long-term uncertainties at the modelling stage. The queuing theory is incorporated to consider stochastic demand and service time as a short-term uncertainty, as well as a service level measurement. The developed nonlinear model is then converted into a linear model after introducing a new set of decision...

Probabilistic Bi-Objective Location Routing Problem with Direct Shipment and Split Delivery

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mesgar Saravi, Mahla (Author) ; Akbari Jokar, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This thesis studies a probabilistic bi-objective location-routing problem that considers multi-product, multi-period system with direct shipment and split delivery which is a case study in SAIPA Group. This model also considers location, allocation and routing decisions in three-level supply chain including factories, distribution centers and customers. Each product for each DC can be supplied by more than one supplier in each period of time, and each factory has a limited capacity. As shortage isn’t allowable, all of the customer’s demand should be satisfied in each period of time. Since customer’s demand could be more than vehicle’s capacity, each customer could be visited more than once...

The Bi-objective Capacitated Facility Location-Network Design Problem with Multi-type of Links and Facilities

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Charkhgard, Parisa (Author) ; Eshghi, Kourosh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
One of the primary concerns on many traditional capacitated facility location-network design problems is to consider costs of transportation and establishing of facilities in one single objective function. Considering a single objective in these problems may lead to misleading solutions due to the fact that the transportation costs should be considered in a short-term period of time, and therefore, the higher cost of establishing the facilities may unfairly dilute the role of the transportation cost. In this thesis, we introduce the capacitated facility location-network design problem with two separate objective functions. Moreover, in this problem, it is assumed that for connecting two...

Determining a suitable location for a Sewage Treatment Plant using a new fuzzy weighted average (FWA) method based on left and right scores

    Abstract
Finding the most suitable location among some alternatives is one of the most important factors which could affect the whole success of the construction of a facility. The facility site selection is a multiple criteria decision making (MCDM) problem including both quantitative and qualitative criteria. Due to some difficulties in many real life cases, defining the exact values for MCDM problems is almost impractical and, it's preferable to use fuzzy values (fuzzy numbers) in this type of problems. In this study, we try to determine a suitable location for a Sewage Treatment Plant by using a new fuzzy weighted average (FWA) method. For this aim, ten different criteria is defined and then, by...

Modeling and solving a capacitated stochastic location-allocation problem using sub-sources

    , Article Soft Computing ; Volume 20, Issue 6 , 2016 , Pages 2261-2280 ; 14327643 (ISSN) Alizadeh, M ; Mahdavi Amiri, N ; Shiripour, S ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
We study a capacitated multi-facility location-allocation problem in which the customers have stochastic demands based on Bernoulli distribution function. We consider the capacitated sub-sources of facilities to satisfy demands of customers. In the discrete stochastic problem, the goal is to find optimal locations of facilities among candidate locations and optimal allocations of existing customers to operating facilities so that the total sum of fixed costs of operating facilities, allocation cost of the customers, expected values of servicing and outsourcing costs is minimized. The model is formulated as a mixed-integer nonlinear programming problem. Since finding an optimal solution may...

Solving bus terminal location problems using evolutionary algorithms

    , Article Applied Soft Computing Journal ; Volume 11, Issue 1 , 2011 , Pages 991-999 ; 15684946 (ISSN) Ghanbari, R ; Mahdavi Amiri, N ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Bus terminal assignment with the objective of maximizing public transportation service is known as bus terminal location problem (BTLP). We formulate the BTLP, a problem of concern in transportation industry, as a p-uncapacitated facility location problem (p-UFLP) with distance constraint. The p-UFLP being NP-hard (Krarup and Pruzan, 1990), we propose evolutionary algorithms for its solution. According to the No Free Lunch theorem and the good efficiency of the distinctive preserve recombination (DPX) operator, we design a new recombination operator for solving a BTLP by new evolutionary and memetic algorithms namely, genetic local search algorithms (GLS). We also define the potential...

    Abstract
Abstract In a recent work, Alizadeh et al. (2013) studied a capacitated multi-facility location-allocation problem in which customers had stochastic demands based on the Bernoulli distribution function. Authors considered capacitated sub-sources of facilities to satisfy customer demands. In this discrete stochastic problem, the goal was to find optimal locations of facilities among candidate locations and optimal allocations of existing customers to operating facilities so that the total sum of fixed costs of operating facilities, allocation costs of customers and expected values of servicing and outsourcing costs was minimized. The model was formulated as a mixed-integer nonlinear...
