    , Article Ceramics International ; Volume 38, Issue 3 , 2012 , Pages 2005-2010 ; 02728842 (ISSN) Hasheminia, S ; Nemati, A ; Eftekhari Yekta, B ; Alizadeh, P ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Foaming and crystallisation behaviours of compacted glass powders based on a diopside glass-ceramic composition were investigated using the sintering route. The foaming agent was 2 wt.% SiC particles. The effect of PbO on the foaming ability of glasses was investigated. The results showed that the addition of PbO not only improved the foaming ability, by improving the wettability of the glass-SiC particles but also increased the crystallisation temperature and widened the temperature interval between the dilatometric softening point and the onset of crystallisation. The glass-SiC wetting angle was decreased from 85°for the lead-free glass, to 55°for the glass that contains 15 wt.% PbO

Crystallization kinetics of glass-ceramics by differential thermal analysis

    , Article Ceramics - Silikaty ; Volume 55, Issue 2 , May , 2011 , Pages 188-194 ; 08625468 (ISSN) Ghasemzadeh, M ; Nemat, A ; Nozad, A ; Hamnabard, Z ; Baghshah, S ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The crystallization behavior of fluorphlogopite, a glass-ceramic in the MgO-SiO2-Al2O3-K2O-B 2O3-F system, was studied by substitution of Li 2O for K2O in the glass composition. DTA, XRD and SEM were used for the study of crystallization behavior, formed phases and microstructure of the resulting glass-ceramics. Crystallization kinetics of the glass was investigated under non-isothermal conditions, using the formal theory of transformations for heterogeneous nucleation. The crystallization results were analyzed, and both the activation energy of crystallization process as well as the crystallization mechanism were characterized. Calculated kinetic parameters indicated that the appropriate...

Stability analysis of an electrically cylindrical nanoshell reinforced with graphene nanoplatelets

    Abstract
Due to a rapid development of process manufacturing, composite materials with graphene-reinforcement have obtained so much commercially notices in the promoted engineering applications. With this regard, the critical voltage and frequency characteristics of a graphene nanoplatelets (GNP) composite cylindrical nanoshell coupled with the piezoelectric actuator (PIAC) are investigated. The material properties of piece-wise graphene-reinforced composites (GNPRCs) are assumed to be graded through the thickness direction of a cylindrical nanoshell and are estimated based on a nanomechanical model. For the first time, the current study is considering the effects of the piezoelectric layer, GNPRC...

Synthesis of SiOC/Al2O3 nano/macro composites through PDC method; investigation of potentials as layers of a packed bed reactor membrane

    Abstract
Thanks to a wide range of pore sizes by nano/macro composites of SiOC/Al2O3, such composites can serve as different layers of the structure of Packed Bed Reactor Membranes (PBRM). In the present study, the Polymer-Derived Ceramics method (PDC) has been used to synthesize nano/macro structures. Firstly, the effect of toluene as an extra carbon source on structure and microstructure of SiOC glass-ceramics was evaluated, such that, 4% (Vol) toluene was recognized as the proper amount to facilitate the synthesis of β-SiC at 1300 °C proved by XRD, Raman spectroscopy, and HR-TEM. Moreover, the presence of micro/meso-porosities was assessed by BET and TEM, indicating the capability of SiOC to serve...

Effect of YSZ sol-gel coating on interaction of Crofer22 APU with sealing glass for solid oxide fuel/electrolysis cell

    , Article Journal of Alloys and Compounds ; Volume 847 , 20 December , 2020 Mousa Mirabad, H ; Nemati, A ; Faghihi Sani, M. A ; Fakouri Hasanabadi, M ; Abdoli, H ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Interactions between the metal interconnect and glass sealant in the solid oxide cells stack are critical to retaining the system integrity. To address this issue, in the current study, 8YSZ coating is applied on the Crofer22 APU steel via sol-gel and dip-coating method. Dense and continuous 8YSZ coatings are obtained on Crofer22 APU substrates. X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy results show that both cubic and tetragonal structures of 8YSZ are formed. A glass-based sealing paste is applied on bare and 8YSZ coated Crofer22 APU steel. The interfacial compatibility and chemical stability of steel/glass and steel/8YSZ/glass joint couples are investigated using SEM and EDS line scan...

    Abstract
In the bone tissue engineering field (BTE), it is of significant importance to develop bioactive multifunctional scaffolds with enhanced osteoconductivity, osteoinductivity, and antibacterial properties required for lost bone tissue regeneration. In this work, a bioactive glass-ceramic scaffold was manufactured via a novel polymer-derived ceramics (PDC) manufacturing method. To gain antibacterial properties, the silver ions were incorporated in controlled amount along with other precursors in the PDC processing stage. Microstructural and structural properties of the fabricated silicate-phosphate glass-ceramic scaffold were evaluated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) equipped with energy...
