    Abstract
In recent years, increasing attention has been paid to the use of renewable energy sources in building sector. The ground source heat pumps are a promising alternative for heating and cooling applications. Despite the high coefficients of performance and significant environmental benefits, their performance may deteriorate over the long-term operation if the annual ground loads are not well balanced. An appropriate solution is the use of hybrid ground source heat pump system through which some portion of the thermal loads can be offset by supplemental components. The aim of this study is to assess the feasibility of a solar-assisted ground source heat pump system for heating a detached house...

    Institution of Chemical Engineers  2018
    Abstract
The high dependence of the atmospheric carbon dioxide emissions on fossil fuels has led it to increment. Process design along with the economic aspects, improves the technology diffusion of the carbon capturing. In the pressure swing adsorption as a promising carbon capturing technology, increasing the pressure leads to more adsorbed amount of carbon dioxide and energy consumption of compressor, which is a source for carbon dioxide emission. Experimental data shows that for pressures between 3 to 5 bar, the avoided CO2 is in maximum rate. The economic analysis reveals that the pressure of 3 bar is appropriate. Also, the utilization of CO2 in the aerogel production, as a nano-based thermal...

    Abstract
The sole industrial process which currently used for adipic acid production is nitric acid oxidation of either cyclohexanol or cyclohexanol/cyclohexanone mixture. Emission of greenhouse nitrous oxide (N2O) gas from this process strongly contributes to global warming, resulting in acid rain and ozone depletion. Herein, we report a catalytic application of a novel dual task-specific ionic liquid (an ionic liquid with two catalytic functions) for oxidation of cyclohexene to adipic acid using 30% hydrogen peroxide. The catalyst showed desirable activity toward oxidation of cyclohexene and some cyclic olefins to produce their corresponding dicarboxylic acids

    Abstract
Iran, with a record of over one century of oil production, is currently one of the major oil producing countries of the world. Several of the old fields have been depleted to an uneconomical level of production which requires significant amount of natural gas for re-injection so that currently over 100 million cubic meters of natural gas is reinjected daily to maintain or enhance oil production to an economical level. It is estimated that in order to maintain oil production, over 200 million cubic meters of natural gas will be needed daily by 2015. However, due to the increased level of domestic and export demands for natural gas, EOR with natural gas is prohibitive and therefore portions of...

    Abstract
A mathematical model is developed for induration of the iron-ore pellets in an industrial-scale plant based on the laws of mass, heat and momentum transfer. Physicochemical processes occurring during the induration of pellets such as drying of moisture, calcination of limestone and coke-magnetite reaction are considered to evaluate the gradient of temperature within the pellets. Differential equations describing transport phenomena in a grate bed are simultaneously solved by dividing the space in both x- and z- directions and numerically solving the phenomenological equations. A kinetic model is used for estimation of the change of the strength of the pellets due to firing. The model...

Design and Optimization of Carbon Capture System from Exhaust Gases in the Process Industries

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Farshi Taghavi, Mahdis (Author) ; Rashtchian, Davood (Supervisor) ; Seif, Shayan (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
Carbon dioxide is one of the main geenhouse gases emitted from factories as well as transportation vehicles that adversely affect the atmosphere and cause global warming. Among the proposed solutions to reduce carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, carbon dioxide separation would be the most viable medium-term approach. However, the high cost of carbon dioxide separation prevents the development of carbon dioxide absorption technologies. Therefore, it seems that integrating separation and production processes is the most efficient way to save energy and reduce carbon emissions. This method decrease a high proportion of the energy consumption in upstream operations (carbon dioxide removal,...
