    , Article Superconductor Science and Technology ; Volume 16, Issue 10 , 2003 , Pages 1216-1223 ; 09532048 (ISSN) Mohammadizadeh, M. R ; Akhavan, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Based on transport and magnetic measurements on Gd(Ba2-xPrx)Cu3O7+δ, and some other properties of high temperature superconductors (HTSC), we have extracted similarities between superconductors, two-dimensional electron gas (2D-EG) i.e. MOSFETs and ultrathin films of conventional superconductors. These are based on properties such as superconductor-insulator transition in superconductors and metal-insulator transition (MIT) in 2D-EG with doping and magnetic field, localization in transport conduction, quantum unit of resistance at MIT, larger change in resistance from critical doping to the insulating side in comparison with change from critical doping to the metallic side and strong...

    Abstract
Welding of severely plastic deformed aluminum sheets, with high stored strain energy, faces a serious concern, which is decrease in strength of weld and heat-affected zone (HAZ) due to instability in microstructure and related grain growth. In this work, two-passes constrained groove pressed (CGPed) Al-1050 sheets were welded via friction stir welding (FSW), without and with addition of a hybrid powder including 50 vol.% α-Al2O3 nanoparticles+50 vol.% graphite micrometric powders (∼1 vol.% of hybrid powders in stir zone). Al2O3 nanoparticles may result in grain refinement in stir zone by grain boundary pinning. Lubricating nature of graphite may reduce welding heat input resulting in lower...

Structural, spectral, dielectric and magnetic properties of Co–Cr-substituted hexagonal ferrites with X-type structure

    , Article Journal of the Korean Ceramic Society ; Volume 59, Issue 4 , 2022 , Pages 453-464 ; 12297801 (ISSN) Ejaz, S. R ; Khan, M. A ; Gulbadan, S ; Akhtar, M. N ; Ahmad, M ; Hussain, A ; Islam, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Co2+ and Cr3+-substituted SrBaCu2-xCoxCryFe28-yO46 X-type hexaferrite with x = y = 0, 0.1 to 0.5 (step = 0.1) were prepared through auto-combustion sol–gel method and sintered at 1250 °C for 5 h which was found from thermal analysis. The thermal investigation, phase detection, spectral, magnetic, and dielectric characteristics of the prepared composition were investigated by TGA, XRD, FTIR, VSM, and dielectric measurement. XRD patterns of the entire composition confirmed the development of a single phase of X-type structure. The enhancement in the lattice parameters and cell volume was observed by varying the Co–Cr concentration, attributed to the larger ionic radii substitution. FTIRspectra...

Coupled continuum damage mechanics and crystal plasticity model and its application in damage evolution in polycrystalline aggregates

    , Article Engineering with Computers ; Volume 38 , 2022 , Pages 2121-2135 ; 01770667 (ISSN) Amelirad, O ; Assempour, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In the present study, damage initiation and growth in a polycrystalline aggregate are investigated. In this regard, an anisotropic continuum damage mechanics coupled with rate-dependent crystal plasticity theory is employed. Using a thermodynamically consistent procedure, a finite deformation formulation is derived. For this purpose, the damage tensor is incorporated in the crystal plasticity formulation for a cubic single crystal. The damage evolution is considered to be dependent on the history of damage, equivalent plastic strain, stress triaxiality, and Lode parameters. This material model is implemented in the commercial finite-element code Abaqus/Standard by developing a user material...

Optimization of selenization process to remove Ga-induced pin-holes in CIGS thin films

    , Article Solar Energy ; Volume 236 , 2022 , Pages 175-181 ; 0038092X (ISSN) Khosroshahi, R ; Dehghani, M ; Tehrani, N. A ; Taghavinia, N ; Bagherzadeh, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In thin-film solar cells, deposition of pinhole and the crack-free absorber layer, with the right chemical stoichiometry is highly important for high-performance solar cell devices. In solution-based CIGS solar cell technology, a nanoparticle ink approach provides phase stability of the final chalcogenide absorber layer. However, the sintering of small nanoparticles to form large grains with reduced grain boundaries is an important challenge in the fabrication process. This is usually realized by annealing in the Se atmosphere, i.e. selenization process. However, the presence of Ga in CIGS films leads to pinholes after selenization. In this study, the synthesis and deposition of high-quality...

    Abstract
The microstructure evaluation and phase transformation of multi-pass friction stir-processed (FSP) commercially pure titanium were investigated using optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy equipped with a backscatter detector, and electron backscatter diffractometer. The microstructure characterization shows that the grain refinement mechanism changed with the increasing number of passes. The equiaxed α grains in the untreated sample changed to lath-shaped grains surrounded by serrated grain boundaries, and produced Widmanstätten morphology during the cooling cycle of FSP. The higher micro-hardness values and bio-corrosion resistances of the FSP-treated samples are due to their...
