    , Article Journal of Hazardous Materials ; Volume 423 , 2022 ; 03043894 (ISSN) Hasanvandian, F ; Shokri, A ; Moradi, M ; Kakavandi, B ; Rahman Setayesh, S ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this study, spinel CuCo2O4 (CCO) with a hierarchical hollow sphere morphology was encapsulated in V2O5-decorated ultra-wrinkled graphitic carbon-nitride (VO-UCN) for the first time via a facile glycerol-assisted solvothermal method in the interest of developing a novel high-efficiency double Z-type nano-photocatalyst (denoted as VO-UCN@CCO). The remarkable physicochemical features of the as-prepared nano-photocatalysts were verified using diverse characterization techniques including TGA, XRD, FT-IR, FE-SEM, TEM, BET, UV–vis DRS, PL, EIS, and transient photocurrent techniques. Herein, VO-UCN@CCO nanocomposite was employed for the photodisintegration of levofloxacin (LVOF) antibiotic under...

    Abstract
Green biomaterials play a crucial role in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases as well as health-related problem-solving. Typically, biocompatibility, biodegradability, and mechanical strength are requirements centered on biomaterial engineering. However, in-hospital therapeutics require an elaborated synthesis of hybrid and complex nanomaterials capable of mimicking cellular behavior. Accumulation of hazardous cations like K+ in the inner and middle ear may permanently damage the ear system. We synthesized nanoplatforms based on Allium noeanum to take the first steps in developing biological porous nanomembranes for hazardous cation detection in biological media. The...

Optimized design of water-saving system in-slab cooling plant of Mobarakeh steel complex

    , Article Journal of Cleaner Production ; Volume 335 , 2022 ; 09596526 (ISSN) Hashemi Beni, M ; Bazofti, M. M ; Golkar, B ; Saboohi, Y ; Mokhtari, H ; Milani, B ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2022
    Abstract
The aim of this paper is to provide a solution to decrease water consumption in the slab-cooling unit of Mobarakeh Steel Complex in Iran. The plan should give an hourly decline in water consumption during a one-year operation period to calculate the annual reduction in water consumption of the proposed process. Recommended solutions for the conversion scheme of an existing wet cooling tower to a dry or hybrid cooling system require modeling of the slab cooling process. The curves of temperature drop in slabs are extracted in this paper by modeling the transient heat transfer of the slabs in the cooling process. This will reduce the computational volume. Then, the design and optimization of...

Performance optimization of the helical heat exchanger with turbulator

    , Article Frontiers in Energy Research ; Volume 9 , 2022 ; 2296598X (ISSN) Xifeng, W ; Xiaoluan, Z ; Mahariq, I ; Salem, M ; Ghalandari, M ; Ghadak, F ; Abedini, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this paper, optimization on a two-tube helical heat exchanger with a fin is represented. The spiral pipes heat exchanger which is made of the cooper is adopted for investigation. The effects of three types of fins with the proposed geometric shapes on the overall heat transfer coefficient and pressure loss are investigated. The fins are located on the inner surface of the outer pipe. The obtained numerical results are compared with the experimental results, and a good agreement is observed between the results. The studies show that the total heat transfer coefficient has increased by 170% compared to an exchanger with no fin. Therefore, the best fin has been selected based on the...

Use of biomass-derived glycerol as an alternative to fossil fuels for aniline production: Energy saving and environmental aspects

    , Article Fuel ; Volume 310 , 2022 ; 00162361 (ISSN) Khademi, M. H ; Lotfi-Varnoosfaderani, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2022
    Abstract
Catalytic reduction of nitrobenzene is the leading technological step in aniline production. The hydrogen required for this stage, is dominantly produced from fossil fuels through reforming processes, which take much energy and emit large amounts of CO2. Biomass-derived glycerol steam reforming is an attractive alternative to traditional reforming to reduce the dependence on hydrocarbon resources and mitigate climate change. This research aims to analyze a mass- and heat-integrated multi-tubular membrane reactor, containing nitrobenzene hydrogenation (exothermic-side) and glycerol steam reforming (endothermic-side) for co-production of aniline and syngas. In this process, hydrogenation...

Metal-organic frameworks (MOF) based heat transfer: A comprehensive review

    , Article Chemical Engineering Journal ; Volume 449 , 2022 ; 13858947 (ISSN) Moayed Mohseni, M ; Jouyandeh, M ; Mohammad Sajadi, S ; Hejna, A ; Habibzadeh, S ; Mohaddespour, A ; Rabiee, N ; Daneshgar, H ; Akhavan, O ; Asadnia, M ; Rabiee, M ; Ramakrishna, S ; Luque, R ; Reza Saeb, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Higher than a standard level, the humidity provides a suitable environment for the pathogenic microorganisms to grow and increases energy consumption for cooling, increasing greenhouse gas emissions. Desiccant air-conditioning (DAC) is an effective method to reduce humidity and energy simultaneously. Conventional desiccants are not suitable for use as a desiccant in building air conditioners, mainly because of high regeneration temperature and other issues such as limited equilibrium capacity and hydrothermal and cyclic instability. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are a novel class of porous crystalline materials without the disadvantages of traditional desiccants. They benefit from a huge...
