, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology A'lami, Mohammad Hossein (Author) ; Miremadi, Iman (Supervisor) ; Madanizadeh, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Today, global value chains(GVCs) have distributed the production of goods and services all over the world and have become the main part of global trade. GVCs provide developing countries with oppurtunities for engaging in economic activity and producing goods, without developing all the infrastructure needed for producing it yourself. but participating in GVCs also pose some challenges to developing countries. if developing countries do not enhance their ability for generating value-added, by losing the advantage of cheap labour over time, they will fall into the so-called "middle-income trap". therefore upgrading, with the broad definition of generating more value-added, should be targeted...

    Abstract
In this paper, a technique for the study of nonlinear performance of structures in different levels of earthquakes is developed. In this method, the Incremental Dynamic Analysis (IDA) curves are not achieved from nonlinear dynamic analysis of multi-degree-of-freedom (MDF) structure. However, the procedure of constructing these curves is based on modelling of the entire structure with several single-degrees-of-freedom (SDF) structures and evaluating them through the modal pushover analysis method. An innovative idea for approximating pushover curves that is based on error distribution is introduced in this investigation. Furthermore, the total input energy applied towards the SDF oscillator,...

    IEEE Computer Society  2015
    Abstract
A joint pre- and post-coder (JPROC) is proposed for MIMO OFDM-based cognitive radio systems over correlated fading channels. The main aim is to have a trade-off between licensed networks and un-licensed networks in the underlay scenario. To handle the un-desired interferences on the main networks, the eigen-values of this JPROC should be small in each licensed network, as much as possible, whereas un-licensed users have higher rates. Frequency selective MIMO fading channels are coded with orthogonal space-time-frequency block codes (OSTFBCs) to improve the bad effects of these small eigen-values on the signal to noise ratio (SNR) in the main network. On the other hand, the system is operated...

    Abstract
The low thermal conductivity of phase change materials (PCM) results in the slowdown in the discharging process of PCM which limits the usability of these materials in the field of Thermal Energy Storage (TES). In this research, an innovative solution is proposed to significantly accelerate the solidification speed, up to two orders of magnitude greater than conventional methods. Using acetone as the intermediate boiling fluid (IBF), the paraffin discharge rate as a phase-change material is significantly improved which is known as super-fast discharge (SFD) in this article. In this method, liquid acetone takes the heat by boiling in liquid paraffin and causes it to solidify. As the liquid...

A unified formulation of gaussian versus sparse stochastic processes - Part II: Discrete-domain theory

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Information Theory ; Vol. 60, issue. 5 , 2014 , pp. 3036-3051 ; ISSN: 00189448 Unser, M ; Tafti, P. D ; Amini, A ; Kirshner, H
    Abstract
This paper is devoted to the characterization of an extended family of continuous-time autoregressive moving average (CARMA) processes that are solutions of stochastic differential equations driven by white Lévy innovations. These are completely specified by: 1) a set of poles and zeros that fixes their correlation structure and 2) a canonical infinitely divisible probability distribution that controls their degree of sparsity (with the Gaussian model corresponding to the least sparse scenario). The generalized CARMA processes are either stationary or nonstationary, depending on the location of the poles in the complex plane. The most basic nonstationary representatives (with a single pole...

DiskAccel: Accelerating disk-based experiments by representative sampling

    , Article Performance Evaluation Review, 15 June 2015 through 19 June 2015 ; Volume 43, Issue 1 , 2015 , Pages 297-308 ; 01635999 (ISSN) Tarihi, M ; Asadi, H ; Sarbazi Azad, H ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Disk traces are typically used to analyze real-life workloads and for replay-based evaluations. This approach benefits from capturing important details such as varying behavior patterns, bursty activity, and diurnal patterns of system activity, which are often missing from the behavior of workload synthesis tools. However, accurate capture of such details requires recording traces containing long durations of system activity, which are difficult to use for replay-based evaluation. One way of solving the problem of long storage trace duration is the use of disk simulators. While publicly available disk simulators can greatly accelerate experiments, they have not kept up with technological...
