Impact of Subsidies on Evolution of Fertility and Human Capital in the Iranian Economy

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Farrokhi, Farid (Author) ; Nili, Farhad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
On the contrary to common explanations of fertility transition in the Iraninan Economy there has been a growing human capital without decline of fertility for some decades followed by a rapid fall in fertility without a higher growth of human capital during the next decades. Accounting for these facts we propose a new link between subsidies financed by exogenous oil revenue and the evolution of fertility and human capital. While the educational subsidy accelerates the growth of human capital, the presence of financial subsidies keeps fertility from declining. Then, fertility declines with sizeable delay but sharply because (i) high fertility in first generations implies a growth rate of...

In Iran e-commerce has achieved an important role and is facing remarkable acceptance in trade operations, therefore my study focuses on the development of E-Commerce model in...

Decomposition of Poverty in Iran with Reference to Household’s Socioeconomic Characteristics, Using Integrated Macro and Micro Data

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Poursadeghi Haghighat, Soheil (Author) ; Neili, Farhad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This research uses the new approach of Son (2003) for the decomposition of poverty in Iran into three separate components of growth, inequality and population effects during 2001 to 2007 and meanwhile uses the integration of microeconomic and macroeconomic data together to increase the accuracy of the results. The main question of this research is to determine the orientation of development strategies for alleviation of poverty in Iran, which could be either growth-oriented or inequality-oriented ones. The resultes suggest that the former has always been pro-poor in Iran and has had the most dominant effect. Therefore, in order to decrease the poverty in Iran in the future, there should be...

    Abstract
In this piece of work, a gravity model is suggested as Iranian non-fuel export model to OIC countries. The most important results out of this model are the acquired coefficients of two variables, namely “ECO membership” and “Economic and Trade Freedom of Importer”. At first, we expected that for importer, being a member of ECO would increase the amount of trade with iran. Surprisingly, this is not what we see in a model. In fact, as ECO has not achieved any tangible success in increasing trade between its members, eastern Asian Muslim countries has become an important trade partner for iranians. This result is compatible with other pieces of researches about ECO. “Economic and Trade Freedom...

This project shows the flow of implementing a 5s Program into a factory. From it’s first step by studying current situation until the last step implementing and monitoring the results. Manufacturing companies have a growing, market-driven need to adopt World Class operating technologies, including lean manufacturing 5S principles. Understanding the program's importance and knowing how to get started are the most important steps. In Iranian economic environment it is always hard to convince any top management to invest on methodologies like TPM. The reason behind this is that there are very few examples of companies with successful implementation of these methodologies. Since management...

A Micro-found Model of Monetary Policy Making in Iran

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Lashkaripour, Ahmad (Author) ; Nili, Farhad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This thesis analyzes the behavior of inflation in the Iranian economy by introducing a micro-founded model of monetary policy. The model predicts a direct relationship between inflation and oil export revenues in the oil dependent economy of Iran. This theory driven claim is verified empirically, and test results tend to confirm a meaningful relationship between inflation and Oil export data in Iran. Based on results attained from the micro-founded model, an augmented SVAR model is proposed for estimating underlying inflation in the Iranian economy. The proposed model is found to render better results than the conventional models used for estimating underlying inflation. Moreover it is...

Rock Type Connectivity Estimation Using Percolation Theory

    , Article Mathematical Geosciences ; Vol. 45, issue. 3 , April , 2013 , p. 321-340 ; ISSN: 18748961 Sadeghnejad, S ; Masihi, M ; Pishvaie, M ; King, P. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Complicated sedimentary processes control the spatial distribution of geological heterogeneities. This serves to make the nature of the fluid flow in the hydrocarbon reservoirs immensely complex. Proper modeling of these heterogeneities and evaluation of their connectivity are crucial and affects all aspects of fluid flow. Since the natural variability of heterogeneity occurs in a myriad of length scales, accurate modeling of the rock type connectivity requires a very fine scheme, which is computationally very expensive. Hence, this makes other alternative methods such as the percolation approach attractive and necessary. The percolation approach considers the hypothesis that a reservoir can...
