    Vibration analysis of a gantry crane subjected to a moving trolley hoisting a swinging object is studied in this paper. The finite element method is used to model the dynamical system. Newmark's and Runge-Kutta techniques are used for direct integration of the equation of motion of the structure and the moving object respectively. The moving suspended load is modeled with a non-linear equation of motion including two degrees of freedom i.e. hoisting in conjunction with swinging.     In this paper, a new method is proposed for the identification of inelastic shear frame structures with hysteresis, using data collected on their dynamic response. It uses the Prandtl-Ishlinskii rate independent model for hysteresis. The proposed identification method is capable of identifying the mass, damping and restoring force of a frame structure, which can be used in forming the equations of motion of the frame.     Several lattice Boltzmann models for multi-phase flow have been developed, but few of them are capable of modeling fluid flows with high density ratio in the order of 1000. Therefore, an advanced chromodynamics, Rothmann-Keller (RK) type model is employed in current study, which can handle liquid-gas density ratio in the order of 1000 and viscosity ratio in the order of 100. Other distinctive characteristics of the proposed model are high stability, and capability of setting parameters such as surface tension independently.     Abstract
    The influences of cupric oxide layer thickness, cuprous oxide particles, and pores on mechanical properties and microstructure of alumina-copper eutectic bond have been investigated. The furnace atmosphere in the first stage was argon gas with 2 × 10-6 atm oxygen partial pressure. In the second stage, the furnace atmosphere was same as the first stage unless that in cooling between 900-1000 °C, the hydrogen gas was purged in furnace atmosphere. Finally, in the last stage a vacuum furnace with 5 × 10 -8 atm pressure was chosen for bonding procedure.     Active queue management (AQM) mechanisms are designed to provide better support for end-to-end congestion control mechanisms of transmission control protocol (TCP) in TCP/IP networks. This paper introduces Direct Dynamic Matrix Control (D-DMC) as a new AQM method in dynamic TCP networks. Ability of the controller in handling system delay along with its simplicity and low computational loads makes D-DMC a privileged AQM method in high speed networks.     Fast locking PLL-based wide-band frequency synthesizers used in high performance RF transceivers often require multi-band voltage controlled oscillator (VCO). These types of frequency synthesizers employ both discrete and continuous tuning mechanisms to satisfy wide frequency range and low VCO tuning gain simultaneously. Analytic expressions for the forces and moments on the various helicopter components are derived.     Abstract
    In this paper, a new scheme for position control of a mechanical load driven by a permanent magnet DC motor and a gearbox is presented. The gearbox is assumed to have some amount of backlash. The paper derives a model for the backlash nonlinear behavior. It then proposes a new control structure composed of feedback and feed forward control systems. The feedback control system is designed based on zero backlash. The feed forward part is employed to minimize the backlash effects. The new method is evaluated via simulations in MATLAB/SEVIULINK environment.     This paper presents an experimental evaluation of the effectiveness of three hardware-based control flow checking mechanisms, using software-implemented fault injection (SWIFI) method. The fault detection technique uses reconfigurable of the shelf FPGAs to concurrently check the execution flow of the target program. The technique assigns signatures to the target program in the compile time and verifies the signatures using a FPGA as a watchdog processor to detect possible violation caused by the transient faults.     Planar grating diffraction analysis based on Legendre expansion of electromagnetic fields is reported. In contrast to conventional RCWA in which the solution is obtained using state variables representation of the coupled wave amplitudes; here, the solution is expanded in terms of Legendre polynomials.     In this study, we have investigated the use of electrodeposited Au-Pt nanoparticles (AuPtNPs) on indium tin oxide (ITO) for the detection of Hg2+ heavy ions in water samples. The mechanism of AuPtNP electrocrystallization on ITO glass in an aqueous solution containing 0.5 mM HAuCl4 + 0.5 mM H2PtCl6 is described for the first time. The nucleation mechanism of monometallic AuNPs on ITO was found to be progressive; however, a transition from progressive to instantaneous was observed for bimetallic AuPtNPs at elevated overpotentials.     Abstract
    We investigate systematically the spin-Nernst effect in Néel and zigzag ordered honeycomb antiferromagnets. Monolayers of transition-metal trichalcogenides, MnPSe3, MnPS3, and VPS3 show an antiferromagnetic Néel order while CrSiTe3, NiPS3, and NiPSe3 show an antiferromagnetic zigzag order. We extract the exchange and Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction parameters from ab initio calculations. Using these parameters, we predict that the spin-Nernst coefficient is at least two orders of magnitude larger in zigzag compared to the Néel ordered antiferromagnets.
