    Synthesis, crystal structure and catalytic activity of a novel Mo(VI)-oxazoline complex in highly efficient oxidation of sulfides to sulfoxides by urea hydrogen peroxide

    Abstract
    Novel molybdenum complex, cis-[MoO2(phox)2] has been synthesized and characterized by IR, 1H NMR, elemental analyses (CHN), and X-ray molecular structure determination methods. This complex was found to be an efficient, selective catalyst for the oxidation of various sulfides to sulfoxides with urea hydrogen peroxide (UHP) in excellent yields (100% for diallylsulfide) and short reaction times (20 min) at room temperature. The catalytic system oxidizes diallylsulfide chemoselectively to its corresponding sulfoxide without any over oxidation in double bond. © 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved

    Copper(II) efficiently catalyzes the aerobic oxidation of aryl thioacetamides into the corresponding α-keto aryl thioamides in moderate to high yields in the presence of K2CO3 under O 2 atmosphere.     Discontinuous molecular dynamics simulations, together with the protein intermediate resolution model, an intermediate-resolution model of proteins, are used to carry out several microsecond-long simulations and study folding transition and stability of α -de novo-designed proteins in slit nanopores. Both attractive and repulsive interaction potentials between the proteins and the pore walls are considered. Near the folding temperature Tf and in the presence of the attractive potential, the proteins undergo a repeating sequence of folding/partially folding/unfolding transitions, with Tf decreasing with decreasing pore sizes.     Abstract
    Indigenous thermophilic hydrocarbon degraders are of special significance for the bioremediation of oil-contaminated desert soils with ambient temperature of 45-50°C. The first objective of this study was to demonstrate the hydrocarbon-degrading capability of Nocardia otitidiscaviarum TSH1 (DSM 45036) which grows optimally at 50°C. Analysis of the metabolic profile of the strain TSH1 showed that it could metabolize phenol, intermediate-chain-length n-alkanes and some polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) ranging in size from two to four fused rings efficiently, but not toluene and xylene.     Abstract
    Lattice models have been previously used to model ligand diffusion on protein surfaces. Using such models, it has been shown that the presence of pathways (or 'chreodes') of consecutive residues with certain properties can decrease the number of steps required for the arrival of a ligand at the active site. In this work, we show that, based on a genetic algorithm, ligand-diffusion pathways can evolve on a protein surface, when this surface is selected for shortening the travel length toward the active site.     Support vector machines (SVMs) were used as a novel learning machine in the authentication of the origin of salmon. SVMs have the advantage of relying on a well-developed theory and have already proved to be successful in a number of practical applications. This paper provides a new and effective method for the discrimination between wild and farm salmon and eliminates the possibility of fraud through misrepresentation of the country of origin of salmon. Several properties of these involutions, such as the relations between their invariants and their decompositions are studied.     In this study, a semi-structured model for the growth and production of lactase in an aerated bioreactor by Kluyveromyces marxianus, growing on cheese whey, was developed. Three modes of culture, consisting of batch, fed-batch and a controlled-release system were investigated. Modeling was based on three metabolic pathways, representing the growth of Kluyveromyces marxianus.     Concentration-dependent cyto and genotoxicities of graphene oxide (GO) and reduced GO (rGO) sheets on spermatozoa were studied. rGO sheets with various surface chemical states were achieved using hydrazine (N2H 4) hydrothermal (HT) reactions and green tea polyphenols (GTPs). Although 0.1 μg mL-1 graphene could not change sperm viability and kinetic parameters, <40% and 20% of spermatozoa were viable and progressively motile, after 2 h incubation with 400 μg mL-1 GO or rGO, respectively.
