    , Article 30th International Conference on Electrical Engineering, ICEE 2022, 17 May 2022 through 19 May 2022 ; 2022 , Pages 166-169 ; 9781665480871 (ISBN) Rezaee, S ; Janforooz, M ; Rasoulpour, B ; Sharif University of Technology
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc  2022
    Abstract
In this paper, a single-fed, circularly-polarized printed antenna with an elliptical slot for S-band application is suggested. The antenna structure includes a circular patch radiator having one rotated elliptical slot which feeds through a microstrip line. The circular polarization is obtained by adjusting the major axis of the elliptical slot. A metallic circular ground and four 80° slices of a wide ring-shaped patch surrounding the main radiator improve impedance matching bandwidth and circular polarization performance. The suggested antenna has a left-handed circularly polarized (LHCP) with an acceptable axial ratio that is in agreement with S-band applications. For verification of the...

    Abstract
Readily oxidization of magnetic particles is a common drawback of these type of materials which reduce their electromagnetic wave dissipation performance. In this study, the magnetic core-double shells structured (Ni/SiO2/Polyaniline) composite has been developed for protection of the core from oxidation and in consequent improvement the complex permittivity. Solvothermal and in-situ polymerization methods were utilized for decorating Ni micro-particles with SiO2 and conductive polyaniline polymer respectively. All physico-chemical, magnetic and electromagnetic features were evaluated via XRD, FTIR, XPS, FESEM, VSM and VNA analysis. The double shells composite possesses significant...

A novel analytical model for a circularly-polarized, ferrite-based slot antenna by solving an integral equation for the electric field on the circular slot

    , Article Waves in Random and Complex Media ; Volume 32, Issue 2 , 2022 , Pages 509-528 ; 17455030 (ISSN) Heydari, M.B ; Ahmadvand, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
We propose and analyze a circularly polarized slot antenna built on a ferrite substrate which is saturated normal to its plane and metalized on both sides. The antenna is built by etching a circular slot in the top metal layer. The antenna operates in the frequency range where the effective permeability of ferrite is negative. An accurate analytical model is derived for the antenna by solving the integral equation for the electric field on the circular slot. The results obtained are in good agreement with numerical simulations. Using the analytical results, a practical antenna is designed that uses a microstrip feed line. For an antenna with inner and outer radii of 4.9 and 5.9 mm, the...

    Abstract
Distant, dusty and extremely luminous galaxies form a key component of the high redshift universe, tracing the period of intense cosmic activity that ultimately gave rise to the present-day universe. These highly luminous galaxies, first detected in the ground-based submillimeter region, are however optically very faint, which hampers identification of the optical counterpart and the measurement of a redshift. We are developing a new direct-detection submm spectrograph DESHIMA. By taking advantage of the rapidly advancing technology of superconducting microresonators, DESHIMA will revolutionize the appearance and capabilities of a submm spectrograph. There will no longer be large grating...

Synthesis of CdS nanocrystals by a microwave activated method and investigation of the photoluminescence and electroluminescence properties

    , Article Applied Surface Science ; Volume 257, Issue 23 , September , 2011 , Pages 9796-9801 ; 01694332 (ISSN) Molaei, M ; Iranizad, E. S ; Marandi, M ; Taghavinia, N ; Amrollahi, R ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
We have synthesized CdS nanocrystals (NCs) by a microwave activated method. CdSO4 and Na2S2O3 were used as the precursors and thioglycolic acid (TGA) was used as capping agent molecule. The aqueous synthesis was based on the heat sensitivity of Na2S 2O3. In this method, microwave irradiation creates the activation energy for dissociation of Na2S2O3 and leads to the CdS NCs formation. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analyses demonstrated hexagonal phase CdS NCs with an average size around 3 nm for sample prepared at 5 min irradiation time. A band gap range of 3.38-2.89 eV was possible only by increasing the microwave irradiation time, corresponding to a...

An ultra-broadband direct demodulator for microwave FM receivers

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques ; Volume 59, Issue 8 , August , 2011 , Pages 2131-2139 ; 00189480 (ISSN) Gheidi, H ; Banai, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
A new broadband frequency discriminator is introduced for demodulating the frequency modulated signals in the microwave frequency range. Direct demodulation with no need for tuning the center frequency of the resonance circuits is the most important advantage of the proposed technique. This technique uses the in-phase/quadrature demodulation, in some manner, without using any additional local oscillator for down conversion. Simulation of the proposed demodulator has been done with Advanced Design System software to evaluate and predict the system behavior. A setup based on the proposed method was designed and implemented in order to verify the accuracy of the theory. We tested the proposed...

Geometrical control of transverse electromagnetic wave propagation in nonuniform microwave superconducting transmission lines

    , Article Journal of Physics: Conference Series, 13 September 2009 through 17 September 2009 ; Volume 234, Issue PART 4 , 2010 ; 17426588 (ISSN) Haghdoust, M ; Mehrany, K ; Fardmanesh, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
It is well known that photonic structures with subwavelength features can be homogenized and thus be accurately approximated by homogeneous yet spatially dispersive structures. This idea is here applied to nonuniform superconducting transmission lines with subwavelength nonuniformities, i.e. subcentimeter features in the microwave regime. A closed form expression is found for the equivalent characteristic impedance and propagation constant of a uniform transmission line that can accurately model the transverse electromagnetic (TEM) propagation within nonuniform superconducting transmission lines with subwavelength inhomogeneities. It is shown that electromagnetic wave propagation, in...

    Abstract
The problem of electromagnetic wave scattering from rough surfaces has been the subject of intensive investigations over the past several decades for its applications in a number of important remote sensing implementations. For slightly rough surfaces that the radius of curvature of surface is bigger than the wavelength, the Kirchhoff method is the most commonly used approach. In this paper a new way for scattering computation from rough surfaces is introduced. Here Kirchhoff approach is applied for considering the electromagnetic wave interaction with slightly rough Gaussian surfaces. Fourier series of rough Gaussian surface is used for extracting the strong harmonics of the surface. Then...

    Elsevier GmbH  2018
    Abstract
A novel UWB MIMO antenna with band-notched characteristic operating in the frequency range between 3.1 GHz and 10.6 GHz is presented. The designed MIMO antenna has two ports and the size of 32×14 mm2 which is fabricated on an FR-4 printed-circuit-board. The feeding system of the proposed antenna is a microstrip line. The two antennas are positioned face to face but laid reversely upon the substrate in order to have a good isolation, less cross polarization, high gain and good envelope correlation coefficient. S-parameters describe the input-output relationship between ports (or terminals) in a MIMO antenna. The effects of the strip feed line width on the variations in reflection coefficient...

    Abstract
In this paper, ultra-small CuO nanoparticles (NPs) were synthesized through a mechanochemical method using two different Cu-containing precursors (i.e. CuSO4·5H2O and CuCl2·2H2O), and their structure and antibacterial activity were studied. From the microstructural studies, it was observed that CuO NPs have a spherical morphology and a narrow size distribution with 7 and 14 nm median particle sizes for CuCl2·2H2O and CuSO4.5H2O precursors, respectively. The CuCl2·2H2O derived nanoparticles showed more antibacterial activity than CuSO4.5H2O derived nanoparticles. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of the synthesized nanoparticles (derived from both precursors) against E. coli and...

    Abstract
The 3D vectorial Gaussian beam tracing method is used to model a short 62.4-GHz link in a simple urban environment. First the Gabor expansion method with a wide-waisted window function is utilized to expand the known far field pattern of the transmitter antenna into a set of Gaussian beams and then these beams are propagated in space until they impinge on a building wall or ground, on which a phase matching method is used to find the reflected Gaussian beams. We will also concisely introduce a new method to consider 3D GB diffraction when incident on a wedge. Overall coverage map shows the dominant effect of shadowing in the millimeter wave band. Received mean signal power in a line of sight...
