    Thermal, mechanical and acoustic damping properties of flexible open-cell polyurethane/multi-walled carbon nanotube foams: Effect of surface functionality of nanotubes

    Abstract
    This article demonstrates the properties of open-cell flexible polyurethane foams incorporating multi-walled carbon nanotubes. Three different types of highly functionalized nanotubes having carboxyl, hydroxyl and amide functional groups were synthesized. Neat polyurethane foam and three nanocomposite foams filled with 0.1 wt% of treated nanotubes were prepared. It was found that thermal stability, mechanical properties and acoustic damping were improved significantly by incorporation of small amounts of nanotubes.     Abstract
    Silica aerogel-multi wall carbon nanotube composites were synthesized successfully with a waterglass precursor and an ambient pressure drying method. Pure silica aerogels are so fragile that they cannot be used easily. Carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) were used as reinforcements to strengthen the mechanical properties of pure silica aerogels. Results show that inserting small amounts of MWCNT causes silica aerogels to monolith. By addition of MWCNT, monolith nanocomposites were produced with 800 m2/g surface area and a 140° contact angle.     Abstract
    Multi-Walled Carbon nanotube (MWCNTs) films were obtained by Thermal Chemical Vapor Deposition method and coated by palladium sputtering process. Raman spectroscopy was used to study alteration in quality of the carbon nanotubes after the sputtering process. Fourier Transform Infra Red (FTIR) spectroscopy showed that hydrogenation process can reduce the C{double bond, long}O to C-O and also produce O-H bond. Furthermore, the electrical resistance measurement for Pd/MWNTs films was performed in a chamber with 1% hydrogen gas in a constant dry air flow.     A micro-SPE technique was developed by fabricating a rather small package including a polypropylene membrane shield containing the appropriate sorbent. The package was used for the extraction of some triazine herbicides from aqueous samples. Solvent desorption was subsequently performed in a microvial and an aliquot of extractant was injected into GC-MS.     Abstract
    The effects of various ratios of Fe/Ni/MgO and growth temperatures on yield, diameter and quality of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were studied. Thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) confirmed that the MWCNT yield depends on Fe/Ni ratio with the following order; Fe0.5 Ni0.5 > Fe > Fe0.75 Ni0.25 > Fe0.25 Ni0.75 > Ni. The results indicated that there is an optimum temperature (940 °C) for the MWCNT growth both from quality and quantity (yield) aspects as compared to other temperatures. Moreover, the changes on Fe/Ni to MgO ratio for the MWCNT growth revealed that Fe/Ni/MgO with the ratio of 17.5/17.5/65 had the highest quality and surface area as compared to the other ratios.     This study deals with an experimental investigation on the thermal performance of a mechanical wet cooling tower with counter flow arrangement by using multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) and nanoporous graphene nanofluids. Stable nanofluids were prepared through two-step procedure by using water with properties taken from a working cooling tower in the South of Iran. Zeta potential revealed suitable stability of MWNTs and nanoporous graphene nanofluids. Thermal and rheological properties of the nanofluids were investigated.     In this research, multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were modified by dendritic macromonomer. Herein, polyamidoamine with acrylamide end groups was incorporated on MWCNTs. Afterwards, poly(N-isopropylacrylamide), (PNIPAM), was grafted on polyamidoamine in a facile synthesis. Then, doxorubicin as anticancer drug was loaded on this nanocarrier. The drug release was studied at below and above the lower critical solution temperature of PNIPAM, (LCST 32 °C), 27 °C and 37 °C, respectively.     A dispersive micro-solid-phase extraction (D-μ-SPE) procedure coupled with surfactant-enhanced spectrofluorimetric detection was developed for determination of ofloxacin and lomefloxacin from biological and environmental samples. The D-μ-SPE procedure was performed using magnetic Fe3O4 nanoparticle grafted multi-walled carbon nanotube as an efficient adsorbent. The filled MWCNT were used as macroinitiator for ring opening polymerization of ε-caprolactone and L-lactide.     In this work, the synthesis and characterization of a new nanocomposite from carbon nanotubes-graft-polymer (CNTs-g-P) is reported. The products were obtained by the filling of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) (inner diameter 2040 nm) with CoFe2O4 magnetic nanoparticles, been grafted with poly (caprolactone).     Abstract: The electrodeposition of platinum nanoparticles (PtNPs) on multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs)/fluorine-doped tin oxide glass (FTO) was investigated. Nucleation and growth mechanisms were studied via Scharifker and Hills model. Chronoamperometry results clearly show that the electrodeposition processes are diffusion-controlled and the diffusion coefficient is 1.5×10-5cm2/s. The semi-spherical particles with lamellar morphology were observed in 1M H 2SO 4, while a petal shape was discerned in 0.5M H 2SO 4.     The present paper describes a voltammetric sensor based on glassy carbon electrode (GCE) modified with a thin film of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) coated with an electro-polymerized layer of titan yellow-doped over–oxidized polypyrrole (OPPY) for the determination of tizanidine (TIZ). A significant enhancement was observed in the anodic peak current of TIZ on the surface of OPPY/CNT/GCE, relative to the bare, CNT- and OPPY-coated GCEs.
