    Abstract
Photodynamic therapy that has developed over last century, now has become more widely used medical tool for the treatment of various diseases such as cancer. This technique involves delivery of photosensitizing drugs, irradiation of light and motivation of drugs. Upconverting nanoparticles could help treatment of cancer tumors in deep or critical points of body by converting high penetrating Near-Infrared emissions to higher energy visible emissions. In this research Er3+-Yb3+ Co-doped titanium dioxide upconversion nanoparticles prepared by Sol-gel method. The phase structure and...

The Effect of Protein Corona on Doxorubicin Release from the Magnetic Mesoporous Silica Nanoparticles and the Effect of Polyethylene Glycol Coating on drug Delivery System

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mahmoudi, Negar (Author) ; Pourjavadi, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The nanoparticles have been widely used in the field of physics, chemistry, electronics and mechanics because of their high surface area. One of their most important applications is in drug delivery systems as smart drug nanocarrier. Magnetic nanoparticles (including Fe2O3, Fe3O4) are the good candidates for this purpose. It is clear that, upon to entrance of nanoparticle into biological media (such as plasma), the surface of nanoparticles were covered by protein layers (protein corona). This layer is very stable and created new surface on the nanoparticles. The protein corona layer intracts with cellular receptors and determines the fate of nanoparticles. Protein corona covers the targeting...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rahmati, Mahmood (Author) ; Vosughi, Manouchehr (Supervisor) ; Saeedi, Mohammad Saeed (Supervisor) ; Firoozabadi, Bahar (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Particle retention and clearance is a major concern in the treatment of pulmonary diseases. Inhaled materials into the nasal and lung airways include gases/vapors, liquid droplets and soluble/insoluble particulate matter which can be toxic or therapeutic (or both). For example, nanoparticles (NPs), as part of nanomedicine, are now being used as drug carriers for passive and active targeting of solid tumors and inflamed tissue. However, natural and especially manmade NPs can also be harmful, such as carbon nanotubes (CNTs), asbestos fibers and ambient toxic pollutants, based on epidemiological and pathological studies of occupational and environmental exposures. In fact, ultrafine particles...

In this study a new mechanism in stabilization of microparticle suspension known as nanoparticle halo mechanism has been assessed. Experiments have been conducted in dilute suspension and two-way coupling range. The effect of the presence of silica nanoparticle on zirconia microparticle suspension has been investigated. The effect of zeta potential of...

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Kheirjou, Somayyeh (Author) ; Mahmoodi Hashemi, Mohammad (Supervisor) ; Fattahi, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This thesis is divided into two parts: In part I, which is theoretical part, we were looking for a computational method which is extensively comparable with experimental results to determine pKa of wide variety of organic compounds. The pKa is an important property in many sciences such as chemistry, biology, and material science, since inclination of a compound to donate or accept a proton is fundamental to understanding many chemical and biochemical processes. Experimentally determined pKa values are not always available from literature sources and often estimated values are employed in their place. It is useful, therefore, to have reliable and accurate means of calculating relative and/or...
