    Theoretical model for visible light saturable absorber nanolithography

    Abstract
    In this paper a saturable absorber medium is employed as an optical limiter to reduce the spot size to the range of several tens of nanometres. The characteristics of a Gaussian beam are theoretically analysed upon propagation through the saturable absorber medium. Based on Maxwell equations a system of coupled nonlinear ordinary differential equations for intensity, beam radius and beam curvature is obtained. Theoretical analyses and numerical results show that the behaviour of a Gaussian beam in a saturable absorber medium strongly depends on the initial characteristics of the laser beam.     In this study the extrudate swell of polymer solutions is estimated using the microstructure of polymer molecules. When a flexible polymer chain goes through a narrow die shear stress exerting on the chain will cause the polymer chain to be stretched along the flow direction. After emerging from die all external stresses vanish immediately and the chains tend to recover their previous state due to elastic recovery. This phenomenon will results in a gradual increase in extrudate diameter and this is used as the key idea for estimating swell ratio.     This paper proposes, for the first time, a tunable left handed transmission line consisting of a strip line sandwiched between a ferrite superstrate and a dielectric substrate containing a metallic wire array. The left-handed behavior is realized by combining the negative permittivity of the wire array with the negative permeability of the longitudinally magnetized ferrite substrate despite them being spatially separated.     We present a new filter trust-region approach for solving unconstrained nonlinear optimization problems making use of the filter technique introduced by Fletcher and Leyffer to generate non-monotone iterations. We also use the concept of a multidimensional filter used by Gould et al. (SIAM J. Optim. 15(1):17-38, 2004) and introduce a new filter criterion showing good properties. Moreover, we introduce a new technique for reducing the size of the filter. For the algorithm, we present two different convergence analyses.     A simple and efficient transmission line model is proposed here to study how the transmission characteristics of photonic crystal waveguides are tailored by introduction of stubs patterned in the photonic crystal lattice. It is shown that band-pass and band-stop optical filters can be easily designed and optimized when stubs of appropriate length are brought in. Since the lengths of the designed stubs are not necessarily integer multiples of the photonic crystal lattice constant, a geometric shift in a portion of the photonic crystal structure is shown to be essential.     Airlift pumps are devices which are widely used in industrial applications. Parameters such as diameter of the pipe, tapering angle of the upriser pipe, submergence ratio, the gas flow rate, bubble diameter, and inlet gas pressure affect the performance of this type of pumps. In this research, the performances of airlift pumps with a vertical upriser length of 914 mm and initial diameters of 6 and 8 mm and various heights for steps, range 0:2 to 0:9 m, in submergence ratio of 0:6 are investigated numerically.     We have recently developed an extended rank reducing process for rank reduction of a matrix leading to various matrix decompositions containing the Abaffy-Broyden-Spedicato (ABS) and Wedderburn processes. Notably, the extended process contains both the Wedderburn biconjugation process and the scaled extended ABS class of algorithms.     In this article, simulations of the stress-strain behavior in aluminum alloys were investigated under cyclic loadings at various strain rates. Four plasticity approaches were applied to simulate cyclic behaviors. To validate obtained results, strain-controlled tensile-compressive fatigue tests were performed in the low cycle fatigue regime. Isothermal fatigue experiments were conducted at various strain rates. Thermo-mechanical fatigue experiments were carried out at different rates of cooling and heating processes.     Abstract
    The effect of surface and interface elasticity in analysis of the Saint-Venant torsion problem of an eccentrically two-phase circular nanobar is considered. The problem is formulated in the context of Gurtin's surface elasticity. For a rigorous solution of the proposed problem, conformal mapping together with a Laurent series expansion are employed. At the nanoscales the usual classical theories cease to hold and the corresponding results deteriorate. The numerical results well illustrate that the torsional rigidity of the mentioned nanosized structural elements are significantly affected by the size.     In this paper, we evaluate the saturation throughput for an IEEE 802.11 based wireless network considering capture effect at the receiver, while nodes transmit with random powers. In this respect, we consider a scenario consisting of a specific number of wireless nodes. Then, we derive the transmission as well as collision probabilities with respect to the perfect capture effect. In order to maximize the saturation throughput we set up an optimization problem and obtain how to compute optimum values for the probabilities corresponding to different power levels.     The authors investigate the achievable rates of a multiple-access channel with one cognitive transmitter in a fading channel. The cognitive transmitter uses dirty-paper coding to mitigate the known interference. They assume partial transmit channel state information which is obtained through a quantised limited feedback. In this model, the receiver sends as feedback only a finite number of bits describing the fading coefficients.     Autocorrelation receiver (AcR) is usually used as the general receiver for transmitted reference (TR) communication systems on a quite intuitive basis. In this paper, we apply the principle of statistical invariance to obtain the optimum TR receiver on a decision-theoretic basis, and it is shown that the autocorrelation receiver is optimal only in a special case. Performance of the optimum receiver and the suboptimum AcR for some important modulation schemes is also evaluated.     In this paper, a simple memory limited transmitter for molecular communication is proposed, in which information is encoded in the emission rate of the molecules. Taking advantage of memory, the proposed transmitter reduces the ISI problem by properly adjusting its emission rate, which can be interpreted as water-filling on the expected interference.     In this work, we numerically study the effect of a mini-scale primary-air injector on the formation of soot nano-particles in a model tubular-type gas-turbine combustor fed with JP, i.e. gaseous JP-1.
