CMC/celite superabsorbent composites: Effect of reaction variables on saline-absorbency under load

    , Article Iranian Polymer Journal (English Edition) ; Volume 19, Issue 8 , May , 2010 , Pages 571-579 ; 10261265 (ISSN) Pourjavadi, A ; Soleyman, R. A ; Ghasemzadeh, H ; Salimi, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
A series of superabsorbent composites were synthesized through graft copolymerization of acrylic acid (AA) onto carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) in the presence of celite powder using N,N'-methylenebisacrylamide (MBA) as a cross-linking agent and ammonium persulphate (APS) as an initiator. The chemical structure and thermal properties of the composite hydrogels were characterized by FTIR spectroscopy and TGA methods, respectively. Morphology of the samples was examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). In free-state, the swelling conditions and hence the related data are not real, because in all their applications the swelling particles of superabsorbent must absorb aqueous solutions while...

    Abstract
A new method for simultaneous determination of dopamine (DA) and ascorbic acid (ASC) is proposed. The method is based on the reaction of dopamine and ascorbic acid with the oxidizing agent (silver nitrate) in the presence of PVP (as a stabilizer) and the formation of silver nanoparticles in a slightly basic medium. Spectrophotometry is used to monitor the changes of the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) band at a maximum wavelength of silver nanoparticles (440 nm) vs. time. Three-layered feed-forward artificial neural networks (ANN) trained by back propagation learning algorithm is used to model the relationship between absorbance and concentration to quantify analyte in mixtures under optimum...

    , Article Journal of Nanomaterials ; Volume 2010 , March , 2010 ; 16874110 (ISSN) Balandeh, M ; Asgari, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
LiNiO2 powders were synthesized with acrylic acid, citric acid, oxalic acid, and triethanolamine (TEA) as a chelating agent. Crystallized LiNiO2 was synthesized in air at a calcinations temperature of 500 °C for 12 hours, when the molar ratio of chelating agents to total metal ion (RPM) was 1.0. The TEA-assisted method had the highest intensity ratio of (003)/(104) peaks of X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectrum. The transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis indicates that the sample prepared with triethanolamine obtained the smallest particle size with average particle size of only 12nm. The results indicate that chelating agents have an important role in the intensity ratio of (003)/(104)...

    Abstract
ZnO nanoparticles have been prepared successfully by hydrogel decomposition method (HDM). Synthesized ZnO nanoparticles were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), fourier transforms infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and transition electron microscopy (TEM) techniques. Narrow distribution of sizes with a 20-30 nm diameter and regular distribution of ZnO nanoparticles are attributed to the application of poly(acrylic acid-co-acrylamide) grafted chitosan hydrogel as coating agent. The results show that the polymer thermal decomposition technique is a perfect method for the synthesis of ZnO nano particles

    Abstract
Electrochemical oxidation of l-ascorbic acid on polycrystalline silver in alkaline aqueous solutions is studied by cyclic voltammetry (CV), chronoamperometry (CA) and impedance spectroscopy (IS). The anodic electro-oxidation starts at -500 mV versus SCE and shows continued anodic oxidation in the cathodic half cycle in the CV regime signifying slowly oxidizing adsorbates. Diffusion coefficient of ascorbate ion measured under both voltammetric regimes is around 1.4 × 10-5 cm2 s-1. Impedance spectroscopy measures the capacitances associated with double layer and adsorption around 50 μF cm-2 and 4 mF cm-2 as well as the adsorption and decomposition resistances (rates). © 2009 Elsevier B.V. 2010
    Abstract
A carbon paste electrode (CPE) modified with thionine immobilized on multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT), was prepared for simultaneous determination of ascorbic acid (AA) and acetaminophen (AC) in the presence of isoniazid (INZ). The electrochemical response characteristics of the modified electrode toward AA, AC and INZ were investigated by cyclic and differential pulse voltammetry (CV and DPV). The results showed an efficient catalytic role for the electro-oxidation of AA and AC, leading to a remarkable peak resolution (∼303 mV) for two compounds. On the other hand, the presence of INZ, which is considered as important drug interference for AC, does not affect the voltammetric responses...

    Abstract
A highly sensitive and simple indirect spectrophotometric method has been developed for the determination of trace amounts of inorganic mercury (Hg2 +) in aqueous media. The method is based on the inhibitory effect of Hg2 + on the activity of horseradish peroxidase (HRP) in the oxidation of ascorbic acid by hydrogen peroxide followed by the reduction of Au3 + to Au-NPs by unreacted ascorbic acid and the measurement of the absorbance of localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) peak of gold nanoparticles (at 530 nm) which is directly proportional to the concentration of Hg2 +. Under the optimum conditions, the calibration curve was linear in the concentration range of 1-220 ng mL- 1. Limits...

    Abstract
In this study, a new type of magnetite nanocomposite with a core-shell structure was synthesized using Fe3O4 nanoparticles as a core and polyaniline (PANI) as a shell. For this propose, the surface of Fe3O4 was chemically modified with hexamethylenediisocyanate (HMDI) to improve its compatibility and interphase interaction with the polymeric matrix. Thereafter, the PANI was reacted with modified Fe3O4 to anchor them to PANI by covalent bands which acted as a shell. In the second step, the poly (maleic acid-co-acrylic acid) (P(MAc-co-AA)) as polymeric dopant for the PANI was synthesized. Finally, the PANI anchored to Fe3O4 was immersed in an aqueous solution of poly (maleic...

    Abstract
3D hydrogel environment with both unique properties of nanofibrous structure and electrical character can provide a promising scaffold for skeletal muscle tissue engineering approaches. Herein, the poly acrylic acid (PAA)-based hydrogel was engineered to conductive one by aniline polymerization in the form of nanofibers. The poly aniline (PANi) nanofibers were made by the optimized chemical reactions between the surface carboxylate groups of based hydrogel and protonated aniline monomers. We found that the strong bonding which was created between PANi and camphor sulphonic acid (CSA) as a doping agent supporting the stable electrical property of composite hydrogel after incubation in cell...
