    , Article Journal of Chemical and Engineering Data ; Volume 62, Issue 12 , 2017 , Pages 4133-4143 ; 00219568 (ISSN) Memari, M ; Molaei Dehkordi, A ; Seifkordi, A. A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Liquid-liquid equilibrium (LLE) data, density, viscosity, and interfacial tension for the ternary system of toluene-acetic acid-water were measured at 298.15 K and 101.7 kPa. The Othmer-Tobias and the Hand correlations were used to check the reliability of the experimental tie-lines. Moreover, the distribution coefficient and the separation factor were explored. It was found from the experimental results that a maximum separation factor value happens at an acetic acid mass fraction of 0.02 in the organic phase. Density, viscosity, and interfacial tension were correlated using the appropriate correlations such that the predicted results have excellent agreement with the experimental data. The...

    , Article Journal of Molecular Liquids ; Volume 242 , 2017 , Pages 357-363 ; 01677322 (ISSN) Joolaei, H ; Vossoughi, M ; Rashidi Mehr Abadi, A ; Heravi, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Humic acid (HA) constitutes a large portion of natural organic matter (NOM), and is the main precursor of toxic and cancerogenic Trihalomethanes compounds, formed during chlorination of drinking water. Therefore, it is essential that the humic acid be eliminated from water before treating it. The present study aims to investigate the photocatalytic degradation of humic acid (HA) using TiO2 nanoparticles immobilized on perlite granules (TIP), irradiated by UV light in a photoreactor. Samples of coated perlites were prepared by a dip coating method using a commercial powder of TiO2. Characteristics of the prepared samples were evaluated by X-ray and scanning electron microscope techniques....

    Abstract
The main challenge in many applications of acetic acid is acid dehydration and its recovery from wastewater streams. Therefore, the performance of polyamide thin film composite is evaluated to separate acetic acid from water. To reach this goal, the formation of polyamide layer on polysulfone support membrane was investigated via interfacial polymerization (IP) of meta-phenylenediamine (MPD) in water with trimesoyl chloride (TMC) in hexane. Also, the effect of synthesis conditions, such as concentration of monomers and curing temperature on separation of acetic acid from water were investigated by reverse osmosis process. Moreover, the separation mechanism was discussed. The solute...

    Abstract
Levodopa [L-3, 4-dihydroxyphenylalanine, or L-DOPA] is an important neurotransmitter used for the treatment of neural disorders such as Parkinson's disease. Abnormal L-Dopa concentrations in biological fluids can be used for the evaluation of such diseases. In this work, a rapid and sensitive method for L-DOPA detection has been reported which is based on in situ formation of polylevodopa nanoparticles. Under alkaline conditions, L-DOPA is spontaneously oxidized to its quinone derivative and shows fluorescence properties. The fluorescence signal of the oxidation product has been monitored and used for the determination of L-DOPA in the presence of dopamine, uric acid, ascorbic acid and other...

Investigation the effect of super hydrophobic titania nanoparticles on the mass transfer performance of single drop liquid-liquid extraction process

    , Article Separation and Purification Technology ; Volume 176 , 2017 , Pages 107-119 ; 13835866 (ISSN) Hatami, A ; Bastani, D ; Najafi, F ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Hydrophobic titania nanoparticles were synthesized by a novel in situ sol-gel method and applied in a single drop liquid-liquid extraction column to enhance the overall dispersed-phase mass transfer coefficient (Kod). The chemical system of toluene, acetic acid and water was used, and the direction of solute (acetic acid) mass transfer was from dispersed phase, including: toluene and acetic acid to the continuous phase of water. For such system, much of the mass transfer resistance exists in the dispersed phase, which is nonpolar organic liquid. Hence, modified titania nanoparticles (MTNP's), prepared by sol-gel route, in five different concentrations of 0.001–0.005 wt.% were added in the...

    , Article Journal of Dispersion Science and Technology ; Volume 30, Issue 2 , 2009 , Pages 254-258 ; 01932691 (ISSN) Sheikholeslami, Z ; Vosoughi, M ; Alemsadeh, I ; Sharif University of Technology
    2009
    Abstract
In this study, a simple route to the formation of DNA-gold complex has been reported, using immobilized DNA as a template. The nanoporous gold films have been prepared by the electrostatic self assembly of gold nanoparticles capped with tryptophan. Tryptophan would improve surface properties of gold nanoparticles for strongly attaching to DNA. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy confirmed that gold nanoparticles have been capped by tryptophan. Also measured zeta potential shows that there are positive charges on the surface of gold nanoparticles. Investigations by atomic force microscopy substantially confirm that tryptophan-capped gold nanoparticles can be bonded to DNA template...

    2009
    Abstract
A chemically modified carbon-paste electrode (CPE) is prepared by incorporating congo red (CR) immobilized on multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT). The results show that CR is effectively immobilized on the surface of MWCNT under the ultrasonic agitation in aqueous solution and further incorporating the nafion. The prepared electrode, due to the electrostatic repulsions between the CR and ascorbate anion, is capable to mask the response of the ascorbic acid (AA) completely and provide an effective method for the detection of minor amounts of uric acid (UA) in the presence of high concentrations of AA. On the other hand, an increase in the microscopic area of the electrode by addition of...
