    , Article Journal of Separation Science ; Volume 34, Issue 22 , 2011 , Pages 3246-3252 ; 16159306 (ISSN) Bagheri, H ; Sistani, H ; Ayazi, Z ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
A new technique for preparation of an unbreakable solid-phase microextraction (SPME) fiber, using sol-gel technology is developed. Primarily, an ultrathin two-dimensional intermediate film was prepared by hydrolysis of 3-(trimethoxysilyl)-1-propanthiol self-assembled monolayer grafted onto gold, then a stationary phase by electrodeposition of 3-(trimethoxysilyl) propylmethacrylate as a precursor, tetramethyl orthosilicate and polyethylene glycol as a coating polymer was produced. The scanning electron microscopy images revealed that the new fiber exhibits a rather porous and homogenous surface. The thermal stability of the fabricated fiber was investigated by thermogravimetric analysis. The...

Photoresponse and H2 production of topographically controlled PEG assisted Sol-gel WO3 nanocrystalline thin films

    , Article International Journal of Hydrogen Energy ; Volume 36, Issue 21 , October , 2011 , Pages 13461-13472 ; 03603199 (ISSN) Naseri, N ; Yousefzadeh, S ; Daryaei, E ; Moshfegh, A. Z ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
WO3 thin films were fabricated by sol-gel method using polyethylene glycol (PEG) as dispersing agent. Physical and photoelectrochemical properties of the synthesized nanocrystalline films were studied by varying weight ratio of PEG to tungsten precursor (x). Based on AFM observations and statistical modeling of the WO3 surface, the thickness of the films increased by increasing the amount of x with a nearly linear fashion while the surface roughness reached to a saturated value. However, the film synthesized with x = 4 showed a chaotic surface behavior. Optical analysis revealed that by increasing the x, transmittance of the films decreased while their band gap energies remained unchanged....

    Abstract
Iron oxide nanoparticles, γ-Fe2O3NP, were deposited onto the surface of multi-walled carbon nanotubes and CNT/γ-Fe2O3NP hybrid nanomaterials were obtained. Then linear-dendritic ABA type block copolymers consisting of polyethylene glycol as B block and poly(citric acid) as A block, PCA-PEG-PCA, were synthesized and cisplatin (cis-diamminedichloroplatinum (CDDP) - a platinum-based chemotherapy drug) was conjugated with their carboxyl functional groups and CDDP/PCA-PEG-PCA anticancer prodrugs were prepared. Noncovalent interactions between CDDP/PCA-PEG-PCA anticancer prodrugs and CNT/γ-Fe2O3NP hybrid nanomaterials led to CDDP/PCA-PEG-PCA/CNT/γ-Fe2O3NP drug delivery systems. There are several...

    2011
    Abstract
The gas chromatography retention indices of 100 different components of essential oils, on three columns with stationary phases of different polarities, were used to develop robust quantitative structure-retention relationship (QSRR) models. Two linear models with only one variable, i.e. solvation entropy, were developed, which explain 95 and 94% of variances of the test set for dimethyl silicone and dimethyl silicone with 5% phenyl group columns, respectively. These models are extremely simple and easy to interpret, but they show higher errors compared with more robust models such as partial least square (PLS) and ridge regressions. For the third column (polyethylene glycol (PEG)), 24...

    Abstract
In the present work, biocompatible superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles coated by mesoporous silica were used as drug nanocarriers for doxorubicin (Dox; an anticancer drug) delivery. In biological media, the interaction of protein corona layer with the surface of nanoparticles is inevitable. For this reason, we studied the effect of protein corona on drug release from magnetic mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MMSNs) in human plasma medium. Besides, we used hydrophilic and biocompatible polymer, polyethylene glycol (PEG), to decrease protein corona effects. The results showed the increased Dox release from PEGylated MMSNs compared with bare MMSNs. This result indicated that the coating...

    Abstract
Polyethylene oxide (PEO)/chitosan (CS)/graphene oxide (GO) electrospun nanofibrous scaffolds were successfully developed via electrospinning process for controlled release of doxorubicin (DOX). The SEM analysis of nanofibrous scaffolds with different contents of GO (0.1, 0.2, 0.5 and 0.7 wt.%) indicated that the minimum diameter of nanofibers was found to be 85 nm for PEO/CS/GO 0.5% nanofibers. The π-π stacking interaction between DOX and GO with fine pores of nanofibrous scaffolds exhibited higher drug loading (98%) and controlled release of the DOX loaded PEO/CS/GO nanofibers. The results of DOX release from nanofibrous scaffolds at pH 5.3 and 7.4 indicated strong pH dependence. The...

    Abstract
A series of water-soluble ABA triblock copolymers consisting of a polyethylene glycol central block joined to two blocks of six different homopolymers have been synthesized via simple solvent-free and ecofriendly routes and characterized by FTIR and 1HNMR spectroscopy. Dispersing and slump-retaining abilities of the copolymers in cement slurries were evaluated by mini-slump spread method. Rheological measurements of samples with the best performance were carried out using a rate-controlled coaxial cylinder viscometer. The test results indicate that the dispersing power of the copolymers in cement pastes is strongly affected by the structure and degree of polymerization of the monomers

    Abstract
Linear-dendritic ABA triblock copolymers containing poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) as B block and hyperbranched poly(citric acid) (PCA) as A blocks were synthesized through polycondensation. The molecular self-assembly of synthesized PCA-PEG-PCA copolymers in water led to formation of nanoparticles and fibers in different sizes and shapes depending on the time and size of PCA blocks. Ten days after dissolving PCA-PEG-PCA copolymers in water, the size of fibers had reached several millimeters. Mixing a water solution of fluorescein as a small guest molecule and PCA-PEG-PCA copolymers led to the encapsulation of fluorescein by products of molecular self-assembly. To investigate their potential...

    Abstract
In this research, partitioning of β-amylase and amyloglucosidase was investigated in polymer-salt aqueous two-phase systems containing poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) with different molecular weights such as 4000, 6000 and 10,000 and Na2SO4 or KH2PO4. The experimental partition coefficients were measured at T = (298.5, 301.5, 303.5, 305.5 and 308) K. The results showed that the concentration of salt in feed had more effect on partition coefficients of β-amylase and amyloglucosidase in aqueous two-phase systems than the concentration of polymer in initial feed. Also, the results indicated that temperature had a small effect on partitioning of β-amylase and amyloglucosidase enzymes. The partition...
