    Abstract
    Because of the complicated buckling characteristics of Y-shaped bracings, calculation of their strength is beyond routine engineering procedures. A method based on slope-deflection equations incorporating stability functions has been used for computation of buckling eigenvalues and effective length factors. Lateral strength is computed based on the least buckling strength of bracing members. This study is limited to bracings with similar sections and fixed end connections resisting out-of-plane rotation.     Burr in drilling plays an important role on product quality, so analysis the burr height is essential at the final production. This paper presents the application of Taguchi method for survey the burr height by adding ultrasonic vibration to the process.     Online power system stability assessment during restoration has not been strongly addressed yet. The introduction of wide area measurement systems (WAMS), however, made it possible to monitor the stability online. This study technically presents a detailed analysis of stability during restoration using WAMS. The power system build-up strategy is used as the restoration approach, based on which the early and the last stages of restoration are to divide the power system into islands and interconnect them, respectively.     Abstract
    Modeling is one of the major research areas in social network analysis whose goal is to study networks structure and its evolution. Motivated by the intuition that members in social networks behave selfishly, network creation games have been introduced for modeling social networks. In this paper, our aim is to measure how much the output graphs of a given network creation game are compatible with a social network. We first show that the precise measurement is not possible in polynomial time. Then we propose a method for its approximation; finally, we show the usability of our method by conducting experiments on real network data

    An analytical solution for obtaining steady-state eddy-current-based force on a levitated permanent magnet above a plate with linear conductivity in the field of an electromagnet having cylindrical symmetry is presented in this paper.     This paper presents a novel, sliding, A-shaped microrobot with nanometric resolution for precision positioning applications. The microrobot is actuated near its natural frequency using a piezoelectric stack actuator to produce translational motion. The dynamic modeling of the mechanism is based on the assumptions of the linear piezoelectric behavior and the Coulomb friction model.     An important aspect of production of gears by precision forging process is the prediction of load required to perform the process and to design the forging die. In this research a new kinematically admissible velocity field is presented to predict the forging load by an upper bound analysis. The analysis considers the shape of tooth profile, number of teeth, and frictional conditions between the die/punch and deforming material. To verify the predicted results the 7075 aluminum alloy billets were forged at temperature of 150 to 250 °C in a precision forging die designed to produce a spur gear of 5 teeth.     TiO 2 nanorods, TiO 2 nanorod/TiO 2 nanoparticle and TiO 2 nanorod/ZnO nanoparticle composite structures were integrated as photoanodes in backside illuminated dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Incorporation of TiO 2 nanoparticles into the bare nanorods increased the dye loading and improved the short-circuit current density (J sc) from 2.22 mA/cm 2 to 3.57 mA/cm 2. ZnO nanoparticles electrochemically grown into the TiO 2 nanorod layer could increase the surface area. Nevertheless, this considerably reduced the J sc to 0.57 mA/cm 2 and consequently cell efficiency.     In this paper we study how the meso-scale and micro-scale electroencephalography (EEG) synchronization measures can be used for discriminating patients suffering from Alzheimer's disease (AD) from normal control subjects.     Peripheral milling is extensively used in manufacturing industry. To achieve more material removal rate, high precision and surface quality and increase tool life, chatter vibration must be suppressed. In this paper, an extended dynamic model of the peripheral milling process including both the structural nonlinearity and nonlinear cutting forces is presented.     We present the first high-precision photometry of the transiting extrasolar planetary system WASP-7, obtained using telescope defocussing techniques and reaching a scatter of 0.68 mmag per point. We find that the transit depth is greater and that the host star is more evolved than previously thought. The planet has a significantly larger radius (1.330 ± 0.093 RJup versus 0.915+0.046 -0.040 RJup) and much lower density (0.41 ± 0.10 pJup versus 1.26+0.25 -0.21 pJup) and surface gravity (13.4 ± 2.6ms-2 versus 26.4+4.4 -4.0 ms-2) than previous measurements showed.     A new switched-capacitor Digital to Analog converter (DAC) is presented. In this method, a ladder of series capacitors is used to generate the output voltage levels. A correction phase is used to increase the precision of the DAC. It is analytically shown that the proposed DAC is mismatch and process independent by virtue of the correction phase. That is after some correction phases, the effect of mismatch on the reference voltage levels on the ladder diminishes and an accurate voltage division is provided.     We prove an extended convexity for quantum Fisher information of a mixed state with a given convex decomposition. This convexity introduces a bound which has two parts: (i) The classical part associated with the Fisher information of the probability distribution of the states contributing to the decomposition, and (ii) the quantum part given by the average quantum Fisher information of the states in this decomposition.     Abstract In this paper, a word based chaotic image encryption scheme for gray images is proposed that can be used in both synchronous and self-synchronous modes. The encryption scheme operates in a finite field where we have also analyzed its performance according to numerical precision used in implementation.
