    Abstract
Objectives: To investigate the effects of competitive and noncompetitive volleyball exercises on the functional performance and motor control of the upper limbs in chronic stroke survivors. Design: Randomized clinical trial. Setting: Outpatient rehabilitation center. Participants: Chronic stroke survivors (N=48). Interventions: Participants were randomly assigned to competitive (n=16) or noncompetitive (n=16) volleyball exercise groups (60min/d volleyball exercise+30min/d traditional rehabilitation, 3d/wk for 7wk) and control group (n=16). Main Outcome Measures: Reach and grasp motor control measures were evaluated through kinematic analysis. Functional outcomes were assessed via Motor...

Mechanical induced reaction in Al-CuO system for in-situ fabrication of Al based nanocomposites

    , Article Journal of Alloys and Compounds ; Volume 465, Issue 1-2 , 2008 , Pages 151-156 ; 09258388 (ISSN) Arami, H ; Simchi, A ; Seyed Reihani, S. M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2008
    Abstract
Gradual chemical (displacement) reaction between CuO and Al powders during high-energy attrition milling under a high purity argon atmosphere was studied. Differential thermal analysis (DTA), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) techniques were employed to study the solid-state reaction. It was shown that the solid-state reaction occurred during mechanical alloying (MA) and resulted in the dissolution of copper into the aluminum lattice and formation of nanometric alumina particles. The reinforcement particles were mostly distributed at the grain boundaries of Al matrix with an average crystallite size of about 50 nm. In DTA curve of the milled powders, a small...

Ethylenediamine-functionalized Zr-based MOF for efficient removal of heavy metal ions from water

    , Article Chemosphere ; Volume 264 , 2021 ; 00456535 (ISSN) Ahmadijokani, F ; Tajahmadi, S ; Bahi, A ; Molavi, H ; Rezakazemi, M ; Ko, F ; Aminabhavi, T. M ; Arjmand, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Ethylenediamine-functionalized Zr-based metal-organic framework (MOF, UiO-66-EDA) was prepared via Michael addition reaction to investigate its potential for adsorption of heavy metal ions from water. Specifically, the influence of agitation time, solution pH, the dosage of the adsorbent, initial metal ion concentration, temperature, and coexistence of other metal ions was investigated on the removal efficiency of UiO-66-EDA towards Pb(II), Cd(II), and Cu(II) metal ions. The pseudo-second-order kinetic model governed the adsorption of these ions onto the UiO-66-EDA. Langmuir isotherm model matched the experimental isotherm of adsorption with a maximum adsorption capacity of 243.90, 217.39,...

Dissolution and remobilization of NAPL in surfactant-enhanced aquifer remediation from microscopic scale simulations

    , Article Chemosphere ; Volume 289 , 2022 ; 00456535 (ISSN) Ramezanzadeh, M ; Aminnaji, M ; Rezanezhad, F ; Ghazanfari, M. H ; Babaei, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2022
    Abstract
In this paper, the dissolution and mobilization of non-aqueous phase liquid (NAPL) blobs in the Surfactant-Enhanced Aquifer Remediation (SEAR) process were upscaled using dynamic pore network modeling (PNM) of three-dimensional and unstructured networks. We considered corner flow and micro-flow mechanisms including snap-off and piston-like movement for two-phase flow. Moreover, NAPL entrapment and remobilization were evaluated using force analysis to develop the capillary desaturation curve (CDC) and predict the onset of remobilization. The corner diffusion mechanism was also applied in the modeling of interphase mass transfer to represent NAPL dissolution as the dominant mass transfer...

Optimization of some experimental parameters in the electro membrane extraction of chlorophenols from seawater

    , Article Journal of Chromatography A ; Volume 1216, Issue 45 , 2009 , Pages 7687-7693 ; 00219673 (ISSN) Lee, J ; Khalilian, F ; Bagheri, H ; Lee, H. K ; Sharif University of Technology
    2009
    Abstract
An electro membrane extraction (EME) methodology was utilized to study the isolation of some environmentally important pollutants, such as chlorophenols, from aquatic media based upon the electrokinetic migration process. The analytes were transported by application of an electrical potential difference over a supported liquid membrane (SLM). A driving force of 10 V was applied to extract the analytes through 1-octanol, used as the SLM, into a strongly alkaline solution. The alkaline acceptor solution was subsequently analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography-ultraviolet (HPLC-UV) detection. The parameters influencing electromigration, including volumes and pH of the donor and...

Reinforced polydiphenylamine nanocomposite for microextraction in packed syringe of various pesticides

    , Article Journal of Chromatography A ; Volume 1222 , January , 2012 , Pages 13-21 ; 00219673 (ISSN) Bagheri, H ; Ayazi, Z ; Es'haghi, A ; Aghakhani, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
Reinforced polydiphenylamine (PDPA) nanocomposite was synthesized by oxidation of diphenylamine in 4molL-1 sulfuric acid solution containing a fixed amount of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) in the presence of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB). The surface characteristic of PDPA and PDPA/CNT nanocomposites was investigated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The prepared PDPA/CNT nanocomposite was used as an extraction medium for microextraction in packed syringe (MEPS) of selected pesticides from aquatic environment. The effect of CNT doping level and the presence of surfactant on the extraction capability of nanocomposite was investigated and it was revealed that when 4% (w/w) of CNT in...
