Abstract
A head-space solid-phase microextraction (HS-SPME) method coupled to GC-MS was developed to extract fentanyl from human plasma. The protein binding was reduced by acidification and, eventually, the sample was deproteinized with trichloroacetic acid. The parameters influencing adsorption (extraction time, temperature, pH and salt addition) and desorption (desorption time and temperature) of the analyte on the fibre were investigated and validated for method development. The developed method proved to be rapid, simple, easy and inexpensive and offers high sensitivity and reproducibility. Linear range was obtained from 0.1 ng/ml to 2 μg/ml. The limit of detection was 0.03 ng/ml while an...

Abstract
In recent years, electromyogram signal (EMG) feature selection, based on wavelet transform, has received considerable attention. This study introduces a new multiwavelet function for surface EMG (sEMG) signal intended for tasks that involve hand movement recognition. To create the new wavelet function, several types of well known mother wavelet were exploited and through their integration the proposed mother wavelet was generated. The proposed wavelet function closely reproduced the characteristics of the EMG signal, while increasing the recognition accuracy of hand movements. We used eight unique classes of hand motions and considered the ability of various mother wavelets and the proposed...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Shodja, Hossain (Supervisor)
Abstract
The aim of this work is to study a cohesive crack in an elastic solid with meshless method. The procedure uses Reproducing Kernel Particle Method (RKPM) formulation in conjunction with Penalty method for implementing all constraints, including the Essential Boundary Conditions (EBCs) and the constraints related to cohesive crack. Meanwhile subdomain technique is employed to diminish the compiling process to facilitate one. Study of Stress Intensity Factor (SIF) at the tip of the cohesive crack has also been dealt with particular interest
Numerical Modeling of a Nano Crack in Fcc Solids Using RKPM Based Dipolar Gradient Elasticity
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Mohammadi Shodja, Hosain (Supervisor)
Abstract
In many structures, crack creation is one of the most significant fracture mechanisms. To predict these fracture mechanisms accurate numerical modeling is necssary. Finite Element Method (FEM) is one of the substantial methods in analysis of numerical fracture problems in recent past decades. But, this method has difficulties in remeshing of elements in each step of calculation in fracture mechanics or large deformation analysis. Therefore, the theory was defined that, without using elements, just with setting of characteristics nodes in geometry of problem, the differential equations can be solved. These methods are called Meshfree or Meshless methods. RKPM is a new meshfree method for...

Abstract
During recent years, many researches on meshfree methods to solve differential equations and crack problem have been accomplished, and acceptable results have been obtained. One of these methods which is widely used in fracture mechanics specially in problems including crack is RKPM (reproducing kernel particle method). RKPM is one of the modern numerical methods in solving differential equations that has been lately introduced and developed. In this method, the genuine response of the system is replaced with a good approximation of the real response called ‘Reproduced Function’. The formulation of this method obviates the need for discretizing the domain by meshing with elements. In this...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Mohammadi Shoja, Hossain (Supervisor)
Abstract
A theory of gradient elasticity is used and numerically implemented by a meshless method that is called reproducing kernel particle method (RKPM) to model size effects. Some of the problems are modeled under the consideration of gradient elasticity for the first time and all of them are also modeled with classical elasticity to compare with gradient elasticity. First of all, the RKPM formulation and computing the amount of shape functions and requisite derivatives will be explained with details and a mathematical innovation that will decrease the computational cost seriously proposed for the first time. Several 1D and 2D shape functions with first and second derivatives that are resulted...

Abstract
It is proposed to obtain the mode I plastic zone size and shape at the crack-tip in a work-hardening material using reproducing kernel particle method (RKPM). RKPM is a meshless technology which has proven very useful for solving problems of fracture mechanics. Ramberg-Osgood stress-strain relation is assumed. In this project the crack-tip stress intensity factor (SIF) before and after formation of the plastic zone will be examined. To impose the essential boundary conditions, penalty method is used. To construct the shape functions in the vicinity of the crack and crack-tip, both the diffraction and visibility methods are employed. The effects of different dilation parameters on SIF under...
Determination of the Elastic Fields of Eliptic Inhomogeneities and Inclusions in Anti-Plane Couple Stress Elasticity Using RKPM
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Mohammadi Shodja,Hossain (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this research, circular and elliptic inhomogeneities are modeled using a numerical meshless method named RKPM. A newly developed accurate and simple method called augmented corrected collocation method, which was previously applied in order to model material discontinuities in the framework of classical continuum theory, is used in combination with the penalty method, considering couple stress elasticity and in micro or nano scales for the first time, where the classical continuum theory has certain shortcomings in predicting the behavior of materials. Simulating nano-composites subjected to anti-plane stresses and comparing the analytical and numerical results show that the augmented...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Mohammadi Shoja, Hossein (Supervisor)
Abstract
An accurate numerical methodology for capturing the field quantities a center lamellar inhomogeneity within the interface of two different phases of a bimaterial rectangular plate subjected to non-uniform tensile stress, in the context of reproducing kernel particle method (RKPM), is of particular interest. For this purpose the innovative numerical technique, so-called extended augmented corrected collocation method is introduced; this technique is an extension of the augmented corrected collocation method used for imposing continuity condition of the displacement at the interface. The robustness of this methodology is shown by solving problems of material discontinuities, namely plates...
Generative Adversarial Networks
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Haji Mirsadeghi, Mir Omid (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this thesis we try to understand one of the most important subfield of deep learning, the generative adversarial networks. In this framework the goal is to reach a generator that generates samples from a target distribution. The target distribution is usually su- per high dimensional and we only have sample access to it. primarily , this distribution was used to be for set of Images (e.g. images of celebrity faces) and GANs performed well in this setting. In this framework two models work simultaneously: a generator tries to generate realistic samples from the target distribution and a discriminator or critic tries to distinguish real samples from generated (fake) samples or more...

Abstract
Purpose: The accuracy of pedicle screw placement during image-guided spine surgery (IGSS) can be characterized by estimating the target registration error (TRE). The major factors that influence TRE were identified, minimized, and verified with in vitro experiments. Materials and methods: Computed-tomography- compatible markers are placed over anatomical landmarks of lumbar vertebral segments in locations that are feasible and routinely used in surgical procedures. TRE was determined directly for markers placed on the pedicles of vertebra segments. First, optimum selections of landmarks are proposed for different landmarks according to the minimum achievable TRE values in different...
Operation of an opto-mechanical system using a double-cell design for liquid color recognition
, Article Optics and Lasers in Engineering ; Volume 51, Issue 7 , July , 2013 , Pages 848-855 ; 01438166 (ISSN) ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
Design and operation of an opto-mechanical system employing a double-cell is reported here for the color liquid reflection studies. The reported system consists of a double-fiber optical design and an electro-mechanical scanning system. In this arrangement one fiber transmits the source light to the object surface and the second one transmits the light reflected from the sample to a photodetector. By scanning the double-fiber assembly in one-direction reflection properties of different color liquids are investigated. Reflection signals depend on the cell surface structure and the cell filled material. Two sets of flat/cylindrical cells made of almost similar glass materials are used for this...

Abstract
Feature extraction is one of the most important steps in processing endoscopic data. The extracted features should be invariant to image scale and rotation to provide a robust matching across a substantial range of affine distortions and changes in 3D space. In this study, a method is proposed on the basis of the dual-tree complex wavelet transform. First, a map is estimated for each scale, and then a Gaussian weighted additive function (GWAF) is determined. Keypoints are selected from local peaks of GWAF. The matching and registration are performed by applying normalized mutual information and our modified iterative closest point. Results are reported in terms of robustness to rotation,...

Abstract
One of the most crucial factors affecting the service life of reinforced concrete (RC) structures attacked by aggressive ions is reinforcement corrosion. As the steel corrosion progresses, crack propagation in concrete medium endangers the serviceability and the strength of RC structural members. In this study, a nonlinear mathematical model for determining the displacement and stress fields in RC structures subjected to reinforcement corrosion is introduced. For corrosion products, a nonlinear stress-strain relation which has been previously confirmed by experimental data is incorporated in the present analysis. In formulation of the governing equations for steel-rust-concrete composite,...

Abstract
We describe our work on incorporating probabilities of phone durations, learned by a neural net, into an ASR system. Phone durations are incorporated via lattice rescoring. The input features are derived from the phone identities of a context window of phones, plus the durations of preceding phones within that window. Unlike some previous work, our network outputs the probability of different durations (in frames) directly, up to a fixed limit. We evaluate this method on several large vocabulary tasks, and while we consistently see improvements inWord Error Rates, the improvements are smaller when the lattices are generated with neural net based acoustic models. Abstract
The deposition of tetrakis (4-sulonatophenyl) porphyrin (TPPS) thin film on optical fibers presents many possibilities for sensing applications. The J-form aggregation with a narrow and sharp spectral feature at about 490 nm and its sensitivity to humidity have been discussed; a fast change of wavelength occurs according with variation in the humidity level. The reproducibility and high sensitivity of TPPS-coated fibers, along with the capabilities of optical fibers, suggest the device as a good candidate for humidity sensing in harsh environments. © 2018, The Author(s)

Abstract
Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy is a highly sensitive phenomenon and a powerful fingerprint detection tool that reflects the small changes in polarizability on the pattern and intensity of Raman signals. The SERS enhancement signals elucidate with the surface-selection rules. In this regard, molecular configuration and adsorption orientation on the surface, in addition to the direction of external electric field, can lead to different patterns of SERS spectra. To evaluate how the variation of these features influences the pattern and reproducibility of the spectra, the chemical charge-transfer SERS spectra for pyridine on silver clusters are calculated for different field directions,...
