    , Article Signal, Image and Video Processing ; 2015 , Pages 1-9 ; 18631703 (ISSN) Serej, N. D ; Ahmadian, A ; Kasaei, S ; Sadrehosseini, S. M ; Farnia, P ; Sharif University of Technology
    Springer-Verlag London Ltd  2015
    Abstract
Feature extraction is one of the most important steps in processing endoscopic data. The extracted features should be invariant to image scale and rotation to provide a robust matching across a substantial range of affine distortions and changes in 3D space. In this study, a method is proposed on the basis of the dual-tree complex wavelet transform. First, a map is estimated for each scale, and then a Gaussian weighted additive function (GWAF) is determined. Keypoints are selected from local peaks of GWAF. The matching and registration are performed by applying normalized mutual information and our modified iterative closest point. Results are reported in terms of robustness to rotation,...

    Abstract
In this study, the dynamic response of a Timoshenko beam under moving mass is investigated. To this end, vectorial form orthogonality property of the Timoshenko beam free vibration modes is applied to the EEM (Eigenfunction Expansion Method). The implication of the vectorial form series and an appropriate inner product of mode shapes in combination are focused for a beam with arbitrary boundary conditions. Consequently, significant simplifications and efficacy in the utilization of the EEM in eliminating the spatial domain is achieved. In order to comprise validation, the present study is compared with the DET (Discrete Element Technique) and the RKPM (Reproducing Kernel Particle Method)

    , Article Mathematical and Computer Modelling ; Volume 52, Issue 9-10 , November , 2010 , Pages 1403-1422 ; 08957177 (ISSN) Shodja, H. M ; Kiani, K ; Hashemian, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
One of the most crucial factors affecting the service life of reinforced concrete (RC) structures attacked by aggressive ions is reinforcement corrosion. As the steel corrosion progresses, crack propagation in concrete medium endangers the serviceability and the strength of RC structural members. In this study, a nonlinear mathematical model for determining the displacement and stress fields in RC structures subjected to reinforcement corrosion is introduced. For corrosion products, a nonlinear stress-strain relation which has been previously confirmed by experimental data is incorporated in the present analysis. In formulation of the governing equations for steel-rust-concrete composite,...

    Abstract
An accurate numerical methodology for capturing the field quantities across the interfaces between material discontinuities, in the context of reproducing kernel particle method (RKPM), is of particular interest. For this purpose the innovative numerical technique, so-called augmented corrected collocation method is introduced; this technique is an extension of the corrected collocation method used for imposing essential boundary conditions (EBCs). The robustness of this methodology is shown by utilizing it to solve two benchmark problems of material discontinuities, namely the problem of circular inhomogeneity with uniform radial eigenstrain, and the problem of interaction between a crack...

    , Article International Journal of Mechanical Sciences ; Volume 52, Issue 10 , 2010 , Pages 1343-1356 ; 00207403 (ISSN) Kiani, K ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
A single-walled nanotube structure embedded in an elastic matrix is simulated by the nonlocal EulerBernoulli, Timoshenko, and higher order beams. The beams are assumed to be elastically supported and attached to continuous lateral and rotational springs to take into account the effects of the surrounding matrix. The discrete equations of motion associated with free transverse vibration of each model are established in the context of the nonlocal continuum mechanics of Eringen using Hamilton's principle and an efficient meshless method. The effects of slenderness ratio of the nanotube, small scale effect parameter, initial axial force and the stiffness of the surrounding matrix on the natural...

    Abstract
A carbon paste electrode (CPE) chemically modified with TiO2 nanoparticles and quinizarine (QZ) was used as a selective electrochemical sensor for the simultaneous determination of minor amounts of d-penicillamine (D-PA) and tryptophan (Trp). This modified electrode showed very efficient electrocatalytic activity for anodic oxidation of both d-PA and Trp. Substantial decreases of anodic overpotentials for both compounds made this analysis possible. Results of square wave voltammetry (SWV) using this modified electrode showed two well-resolved anodic waves for the oxidation of d-PA and Trp, which makes the simultaneous determination of both compounds possible. The peak potential for the...
