    Abstract
We previously reported that MR01, an indigenous strain of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, was able to produce a rhamnolipid-type biosurfactant. Here, we attempted to define the structural properties of this natural product. The analysis of the extracted biosurfactant by thin-layer chromatography (TLC) revealed the presence of two compounds corresponding to those of authentic mono- and di-rhamnolipid. The identity of two structurally distinguished rhamnolipids was confirmed by 1H and 13C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. Liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (LC/MS) of extracted biosurfactant revealed up to seventeen different rhamnolipid congeners. Further quantification showed...

Core-shell electrospun polybutylene terephthalate/polypyrrole hollow nanofibers for micro-solid phase extraction

    , Article Journal of Chromatography A ; Volume 1434 , 2016 , Pages 19-28 ; 00219673 (ISSN) Bagheri, H ; Rezvani, O ; Banihashemi, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier B.V  2016
    Abstract
In the present work, a new micro-solid phase extraction (μ-SPE) sorbent as an extracting medium based on core-shell nanofibers was synthesized by electrospinning. The core-shell nanofibers of polyvinylpyrrolidone-Polybutylene terephthalate/polypyrrole (PVP-PBT/PPy) were electrospun and subsequently, modified hollow nanofibers were prepared by removing the central PVP moiety. Moreover, conventional PBT/PPy was also prepared for the comparison purposes. The homogeneity and the porous surface structure of the core-shell nanofibers were confirmed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The applicability of the fabricated nanofibers-coating was examined by immersed μ-SPE of some selected triazine...

Voltammetric studies of sumatriptan on the surface of pyrolytic graphite electrode modified with multi-walled carbon nanotubes decorated with silver nanoparticles

    , Article Talanta ; Volume 80, Issue 1 , 2009 , Pages 31-38 ; 00399140 (ISSN) Ghalkhani, M ; Shahrokhian, S ; Ghorbani Bidkorbeh, F ; Sharif University of Technology
    2009
    Abstract
Multi-walled carbon nanotube decorated with silver nanoparticles (AgNPs-MWCNT) is used as an effective strategy for modification of the surface of pyrolytic graphite electrode (PGE). This modification procedure improved colloidal dispersion of the decorated MWCNTs in water, affording uniform and stable thin films for altering the surface properties of the working electrode. Robust electrode for sensing applications is obtained in a simple solvent evaporation process. The electrochemical behavior of sumatriptan (Sum) at the bare PGE and AgNPs-MWCNT modified PGE is investigated. The results indicate that the AgNPs-MWCNT modified PGE significantly enhanced the oxidation peak current of Sum. A...

Design and evaluation of a novel triaxial isometric trunk muscle strength measurement system

    Abstract
Maximal strength measurements of the trunk have been used to evaluate the maximum functional capacity of muscles and the potential mechanical overload or overuse of the lumbar spine tissues in order to estimate the risk of developing musculoskeletal injuries. A new triaxial isometric trunk strength measurement system was designed and developed in the present study, and its reliability and performance was investigated. The system consisted of three main revolute joints, equipped with torque sensors, which intersect at L5-S1 and adjustment facilities to fit the body anthropometry and to accommodate both symmetric and asymmetric postures in both seated and standing positions. The dynamics of...

Development of nanocrystalline TiO2-Er2O3 and TiO2-Ta2O5 thin film gas sensors: Controlling the physical and sensing properties

    , Article Sensors and Actuators, B: Chemical ; Volume 141, Issue 1 , 2009 , Pages 76-84 ; 09254005 (ISSN) Mohammadi, M. R ; Fray, D. J ; Sharif University of Technology
    2009
    Abstract
A systematic comparison of single and binary metal oxide TiO2, TiO2-Er2O3 and TiO2-Ta2O5 thin film gas sensors with nanocrystalline and mesoporous microstructure, prepared by sol-gel route, was conducted. The gas sensitivity was increased by secondary phase introduction into TiO2 film via two mechanisms, firstly due to the inhibition of anatase-to-rutile transformation, since the anatase phase accommodates larger amounts of adsorbed oxygen, and secondly due to the retardation of grain growth, since the higher surface area provides more active sites for gas molecule adsorption. The binary metal oxide gas sensors exhibited a remarkable response towards low concentrations of CO and NO2 gases at...

Comparison between electrochemical and photoelectrochemical detection of dopamine based on titania-ceria-graphene quantum dots nanocomposite

    , Article Biosensors and Bioelectronics ; Volume 151 , 2020 Ahmadi, N ; Bagherzadeh, M ; Nemati, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2020
    Abstract
In this study, titania-ceria-graphene quantum dot (TC-GQD) nanocomposite was synthesized by hydrothermal method for the first time. The prepared nanomaterials were characterized by XRD, FTIR dynamic light scattering (DLS), FESEM, HRTEM, and EDX spectroscopy along with elemental mapping. The synergistic effect of the nanocomposite components was studied by diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS) and electrical conductivity meter. The results showed that band gap of TC-GQD nanocomposite was shifted to visible lights relative to its components (1.3 eV), and electrical conductivity of the sample was significant increased to 89.5 μS cm−1. After chemical and physical characterization, prepared new...

    Abstract
Growth arrest-specific gene 6 (GAS6) is a growth factor-like cytokine whose function is related with vitamin K. This protein interacts with receptor tyrosine kinase proteins such as Tyro3, Axl, and TAM Receptor family, therefore affecting the tumorigenic processes via different mechanisms. GAS6-antisense 1 (GAS6-AS1) is a long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) that is transcribed from a genomic regions nearby GAS6. This lncRNA is also implicated in the pathobiology of cancer. We intended to judge the role of GAS6 and GAS6-AS1 in the pathogenesis of breast cancer through appraisal of their expression levels in breast cancer tissues and their paired neighboring non-cancerous samples. Expression of...
